How do you equate GPAs of different colleges? The difficulty level is very different in different colleges in India and especially those who have studied in top schools in USA. Do they apply the same yard stick to a student with 3.3 GPA from UC Berkeley or a UMich as compared to 3.7 GPA from a college in India. The difficulty level and the grading patterns are way apart. the. How do they compare such cases ??

I have 2.28 gpa and 17 backlogs bt no drop in a year. Also I scored 315 in gre and 102 in toefl. even have a 4 yrs of experience in 2 IT companies as a QA lead and automation. Participated in many extra curricular activities also. Can I get atleast an avg 50-100 top college for MS in usa?? It's just I never studied in college cuz I didn't have any interest in that. Hi Sachin, I have a decent academics score (BEX - 77.8%, equivalent to 3.85 GPA), but I had one backlog, which I cleared immediately during the first attempt. Furthermore, the backlog was due to me having some surgery at that time. If I justify this, will good universities(Top 50) accept them? As you said, other profile matters too, but I am specifically asking from the academics point of view?

Hi Sachin, I have a decent academics score (BTech - 78.8%, equivalent to 3.85 GPA), I recently gave my GRE, and scored 316. But my verbal score is just 147, quant is 169. I have performed well in AWA and I am expecting 4 or 4+ in awa. I have 26 months of work experience and published one international paper. Do universities have sectional cuttoffs? Hi Sachin, Honestly speaking you have given a very clear idea, unlike any other RU-vidr. So I got one quick question I got 7 CGPA in my Undergrad and have 2+ work experience in the field of IT as a Java developer. Now let's assume if I got GRE Score anywhere between 315-320. So is that enough to compensate for my GPA or should I focus on other suggestions also which you have mentioned in your video like Research Paper or Projects?

I was in the top 2% of my class still having a CGPA of 8.66. Topper of our batch also has 8.82 CGPA. Our University has a pretty harsh method of providing grades. If I were from another universitiy my grade might have been 9.5+. :(

Don't worry just make sure that your academic LoR has it mentioned that u are top 2 percentage in the class. Universities will understand. Ik people who've gotten into places like Stanford with much more lower GPAs.

Hey. I'm Akash and I'm from India. I'm not sure I get what you're saying about GPA. In my university, you get a GPA each semester based on your performance in the semester exams. Then an average of all GPAs are taken to calculate the CGPA, which is the Cumulative GPA. What does this have to do with being in the top 5% of my class?

Top 5% of your class means you have a CGPA in the top 5% of your class.

@@SachinPullil150 hi Sachin, In our batch of 120 students only 10-15 percent students don't have a backlog and I am in one of them. Also, I am in top 10 percent of the class and in top 5 percent four last 4 semesters. To let them know my academic capability,Do I have to mention these things in my SoP or will it be too much boasting, esp with backlog statement? If I don't how would they know about our class academic standards?

Sachin I have a doubt that will universities will just see cgpa or will they give a look at how gpa is actually calculated for certain college or university in which we have pursued our under graduate?? Because the regulations are different for different universities in India. Also regulations have changed from our batch for our college, for our seniors top grade i.e., 10 points in a subject can be achieved by getting 80-100 but for us it changed to 90-100..

Unfortunately, they won't look at it with that much depth. They'll just look at the GPAs of other applicants they've gotten from your university, and other universities in the same Tier.

I'm applying for PhD and my Masters GPA is in the top 5% but Bachelors GPA is very low (6.18) with backlogs. Will that work if I try to compensate with GRE, GRE Maths, TOEFL and my research experience? And also explain my reason in SOP?

Not sure, if GPA is a good criterion in the pandemic. The people I know, who never made it above 6 pointers are scoring 9.9999 cgpa after giving every assessment conducted online. Now, that is unfair.

The backlog will impact your profile a little bit but you otherwise seem to have a good overall one so it should be fine!

Hi Meher, yes it may impact your chances because recruiters will ask why you have a large gap in your employment history.

@@mehers9342 Regardless of whether you have a Master's degree or not, employers will still ask why there's a 4-year gap. It may even be beneficial to get a Master's degree then, since in many cases employers hire MS graduates because of their knowledge and skills through MS, and not prior work experience.

Hi Sachin! I've had a low gpa and several backlogs in my Engineering degree(6.07 CGPA) But I've done PGDM in research and business analytics with an average GPA of 8.5. I've already given IELtS and got a 8 band , GrE is due in the next 15 days. Just one question, will my PGDM degree GPA be considered or my undergrad? Do they specifically look the undergraduate score or the LAST education score?

They don't. They know the range of GPAs of applicants they get from your university, and from universities in the same tier as yours. With this information, they can figure out whether your GPA falls near the top of the application pool, in the middle, or the bottom. Essentially, they compare you with what they've gotten before.

Well you don't know the current situation what is happening right now due to pandemic for final year , 2nd year and 3rd engineering students who can't build their profile with lack of internship, campus practical classes and working experience if you're the topper of GRE keep this thing yourself go do you're regular job you're still an infant in the corporate world you're points will not help now!!!!!
