Your videos are a public service at this point so thanks for doing them!. I wish other electrical retailers had even one staff member in a store who knew their stuff about the appliances and equipment they sell.
The retailers don't have any knowledgeable staff because the business owners don't want to pay them for their expertise. After all, how are the CEOs going to make their dizzying wages if they pay a fair compensation to the "labour"? That's why the staff almost everywhere (and I mean all over the business sector, from manufacturers to retail) are young barely experienced people that are exploited with minimum wages. No one will make the effort to learn a craft or know their stuff if they are paid the same as someone who requires only common sense to do their job, and rightly so. The world we live in saddens and infuriates me. The 'Can't get the staff' should change to 'Won't pay the staff' and point the finger where it should be pointed. Sorry for the rant.
When I came to this country (UK) I was surprised that the hood in the kitchen of my rental was not venting outside. Then when we went on our search to buy a house, I was surprised that a lot of houses just have the hood circulating the air. And I bought a house where this was also the case. We asked a builder to fix it for us and we had to explain to him, why we wanted that... This feels like a culture difference with the Netherlands.
Great video. My ancient gas cooker with overhead grill is finally conking out. Looking at an induction cooker but our kitchen fails immediately as there is the dreaded woodchip wallpaper behind. What I wanted to ask you about is trunking. Cables running to a cooker switch, set in a safe place, are covered with trunking but clearly in the hot zone. I've read that these are pvc and so inflammable and therefore OK. Is that the case or do they fail this hot zone rule too?
Always difficult to comment on the hot zone issues as you need to refer to the manufacturers instructions to get a proper idea.Ideally you don't want external trunking showing with the cable in it, it should ideally be channeled into the wall, but this is a lot more difficult.
Great video 🙏This hot zone rule is confusing me. Trying to get a new gas hob installed in my fitted kitchen. There is a canopy hood over my existing hob. The canopy hood is part of the kitchen, it’s fitted can’t remove it. Can’t adapt it. All fitted. Kitchen units and work top are beautiful- not changing. The Hood is around 730mm above the gas hob. When i try to place a order for a a new hob with installation from main sellers here, they all say can’t be installed because the rules say the space between hob and hood needs to be at least 75 cm. The neff installation manual says 65cm. What do i do? ( It almost feels.like the rules are made to make us all change our kitchens to line the pockets of this industry. ) Any help appreciated. 🙏 ( your post is dated February 22 and it’s now April 22 - surely the rules haven’t changed #imce you posted this video……)please help!!!!!
You are correct that it is very confusing and as you have found out very frustrating. Our installers will always refer to the manufacturers installation instructions overv anything else so I am surprised you are struggling to get it installed. Good luck
@@lords-electrical I might have found someone who can help. - keeping everything crossed. but why do they make it so difficult? It would be really interesting to see who made this regulation. There’s nothing on the gas safe website about it. I keep seeing the hot zone diagram everywhere that anyone could have drawn up. But who made this rule? A kitchen designer?somebody who owns shares in a kitchen shop, no doubt. There’s no mention of where this rule came from anywhere. Is it real? It s just basically saying:, throw out your old kitchens, get a new shiny kitchen; with new appliances that meet all regulations that weren’t really necessary, but how else are we going to get people to invest in new kitchens that they don’t really need.Plus, we don’t care about sustainability and saving the planet, as long as you all keep buying new kitchens when we bring out new rules; that’s all that matters! I have no choice. My hob is broken. Why it’s been such a challenge makes me so cross;….. Thank you for your videos and info Very useful.
Your hob was too close to the wall on the left (not 9 cm). It is a display unit but unless pointed out a customer could have the impression they could have a similar installation in a tight kitchen. Good video though, I'm now off to measure my hood height😇.
Where does a person go to buy a new cooker these days ? Comet have hardly any choice, and we have no gas showrooms anymore. I have an ancient Hotpoint gas oven and it has a thick black hose at the back and I don't know if a new cooker would even be compatible with the fittings behind it. Where can you get advice and someone to come and look and tell you what is possible please.
