When you said "abdominal hysterectomy" I thought you said "double hysterectomy" at first and laughed so hard :D

I went into an appointment to have my bladder repaired for incontinence it was suggested to have a hysterectomy done at the same time to help the repair. Everything I've been reading today shows you have a greater chance of incontinence after a hysterectomy any help with understanding would be appreciated

I wish I had watched this video prior to my surgery I’m 4 weeks post op vaginal hysterectomy. I was not aware of the possible issues that could result after surgery 🤦🏽‍♀️ I was sent home with the catheter on my surgery day. I returned to the hospital two days later to have the catheter removed I still could not feel the urge to urinate or have a BM I ended up having a UTI and since then I’m still having trouble feeling the urge. Your video will definitely prepare someone who’s having the surgery in the future as to what to expect. Thank you

I am 47 years old and am on a waitlist for a total laparoscopic hysterectomy leaving my ovaries. My surgery is technically elective as I don't have cancer or fibroids. My periods are very heavy and painful. I had an endometrial ablation but it wasn't very effective. I went in for another but the surgeon couldn't perform it because there was too much scar tissue. What can cause that? Why can you not perform an ablation twice? I also have a larger uterus. What causes a uterus to be larger? Sometimes I feel like I should just wait until menopause. I'm nervous it will put me into menopause earlier than naturally. Should I get a second opinion?

I had an vaginal hystorectomy 29 August i am really good. No problems at the moment. The only thing i want to know is what should be coming out your vagnina till it is healed??? First all the yellow stuff from hospital... And i have a ligt bit of water/ blood Very light Is it normal???

Hi Leona. You surgical team should have given you the expectations following surgery as they know exactly what they have done and how and different surgeries have different aftercare expectations. I would expect bleeding, gradually slowing, becoming watery. Not smelly and not green/yellow.

I'm 58 and just 3 days ago had a radical hysterectomy because they found uterine cancer in a biopsy. So now I am on the road to recovery. I was already post-menopause, so I really don't notice any difference in my emotional well being yet (I wasn't having any issues before). I have an elastic brace around my midsection to help give support if I cough. I do take it off a night because it gets painful on my ribs after a while.

Hi Renee, I am 25 years old, but I have been suffering heavy abnormal bleeding and severe abdominal pain, also in my back and around my pelvis area, since I was about 11 years of age and has gradually gotten worse as I've gotten older. Even when I am not bleeding I get the severe pain. I am exhausted all the time and struggle to get motivated to keep up my fitness routines which makes me feel worse. It has a significant impact on how I live my life and what jobs I do. It effects my mental wellbeing as I struggle with depression and frustration. I have wanted a hysterectomy for years and years as I do not want children, I have never felt the need to want them so I am not concerned about not being able to conceive. I just wanted to know if I would be wasting my time going to NHS because I'm so young or should I just go private? I don't want to live the prime of my life in agonising pain. Alice, Scotland

Oh Alice I can’t tell you how sorry I am to read this. Have you tried Mirena coil first? If not it may be worth a try. Otherwise yes of course go via the NHS. It may be worth researching Dr Hannah Short and her hysterectomy story. She too was very young and without children. Good luck.

Isn't taking oestrogen or any HRT dangerous after hysterectomy/oophorectomy? If not, which HRT do you recommend? I am concerned about bone health.
@DrRenee
@DrRenee Год назад
Actually it is really important, especially if you are under 51. And all research shows that taking oestrogen only (after hysterectomy) lowers the risk of breast cancer compared to population risk. I don’t recommend any HRT, it’s a personal choice after consideration if the various types, risks and benefits and lifestyle.

i had the full hysterectomy & oophrectomy about 11 weeks ago ,as i had a large cyst that attached itself to both my overies & my bowel , but i'm still in pain across my scar & hip , the doctor gave me some antibiotics last week , as i felt like i'd got an infection , but it's not really helped much , & it still hurts to urinate abit , i got the feeling they think i'm being abit impatient with healing process , so how long should i wait for it to heal ? ,

Hi Dr Renee, just had my Radical Hysterectomy last Sept 3,2020 and Im home nw resting. Until now my vagina is a little swollen and both inguinal areas. And for two weeks now I am still using self intermittent catheter because i cannot pee. But my Onocologist told me that for the meantime i cannot pee because my bladder is still inflame. I am taking 2 kinda of medicines for my bladder. I have an urge to urinate but i cannot pee at all. Ovary,cervix,fallopian,uterus are removed and also lymphnodes in pelvic areas. (Abdominal surgery) I am really careful in my movements, not much lower back pain. Except for my vagina is bit swollen til now. Is it because of the vaginal cuff? Please reply Thank you

I was told there would probably be no hospital stay at all. Is this normal? She’s going to try to do a laparoscopy but says if the fibroid is too close to the belly button then perhaps that can’t be done and she would do an abdominal surgery. Does that sound normal to you? That I would go in not knowing which type of surgery she’s going to do? Thank you.

Hi there. I am really worried just now as I have cin3 and I’m worried they’ll suggest a hysterectomy (due to the fact my smears have always been abnormal/borderline and I have two children and I’m not planning on anymore). Part of me thinks it would mean I don’t need to worry about developing cervical cancer in the future. However I’m confused with what you said about some woman still needing smears indefinitely even after having their cervix removed? What would even be the benefit of a hysterectomy if this is the case? I am so confused with all the information on the internet and really just need some reassurance as it’s all making me so anxious. I had LEEP treatment FYI. Thank you.
@DrRenee
@DrRenee 4 года назад
Hi. If they suggested a hysterectomy for CIN3 then this would also take the cervix. Some women have a hysterectomy but the cervix is left in place. These women need a smear. Hope that explains.

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer 1A1 last week ( the very early stage)😞🥲 HPV associated. The gynaecologist / oncologist suggested to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy done. He will remove my cervix, uterus and Fallopian tubes. I will keep both of my ovaries. I’m nervous and scared because it’s a big surgery. My question is: it’s this the right option treatment / surgery for me?? Please, Dr. Renee if you could answer this, you will be greatly appreciated!

I am a post menopausal women age 58 with a fibroid that has grown. I recently had vaginal bleeding that lasted two days. I had an ultrasound and uterine biopsy. I have been told I need a hysterectomy. Does this sound like a procedure I need?
@DrRenee
@DrRenee 6 лет назад
Hi Kathy. I can't advise you on your individual case I'm afraid. However, hysterectomy is often offered as a solution to fibroids which are proving problematic. The good news is , that for many women it can be a life changing surgery and facilitates HRT without any risk.

Hi Dr Renee, will a hysterectomy have an impact on how ovaries function? ie: will a hysterectomy cause the ovary to eventually shut down more quickly or eventually stop producing estrogen more quickly compared to someone who did not have a hysterectomy? Just wondering if the ovaries require the uterus to function properly, if so, how? Where do the ovaries get its blood supply from? (I'm guessing it's the blood supply that keeps the ovaries functioning?) Thank you.
@DrRenee
@DrRenee 4 года назад
Jan Brown Hi. Yes. It is expected that whatever your age at surgery, your ovaries will begin to fail within 5 years.
@DrRenee

Jan Brown and yes it’s to do with blood supply interaction.

fatima savnoor Hi. sorry to hear this. Perhaps you are in surgical Menopause and so definitely need HRT. You also need a low carb diet and exercise along side this. Donating your blood will not affect weight. You do need your blood tested for FSH, Oestrodial and thyroid.

Hello, I’m not sure if you’re still answering questions on here but am looking for as much advise as I can to make the right decisions. I’m 63 & have had large fibroids for around 10 to 15 years. I’ve also had a large ovarian cyst removed from my left ovary when I was in my late 20s & now have a very small one on the opposite side (less than 2cm) on the opposite side. I’ve had an ultrasound & CT scan & all looks benign but have been offered a hysterectomy (or to just be discharged) with my ovaries being removed. I’ve also had DCIS along with one of my five sister. We were in our late 30s at the time & both had surgery to have this removed. I had genetic testing later to check for the BRCA 1 & 2 but it came back negative. What are your thoughts on having my ovaries removed in my situation? I’ve read that women’s ovaries are still functional after menopause but am finding it difficult with my age & circumstances to come to a final decision. Thank you x
@DrRenee
@DrRenee 4 года назад
hillrows Hi. At 63 your ovaries will not be functional. It’s a reasonable solution and can leave you free to just use oestrogen alone which lowers the risk of breast cancer versus the normal risk. Hope that helps.
@hillrows
@hillrows 4 года назад
Dr Renee, Al ok thank you. I always thought that oestrogen heightened your risk of breast cancer 🤔 I’ll discuss with my Gynaecologist about the possibility of having some sort of HRT with just the oestrogen alone.
@DrRenee
@DrRenee 4 года назад
hillrows noZ the the breast cancer risk from HRT is from synthetic progestins. You don’t need this.
