Thank you for putting this together! I’m attending my first one later this year, and also made an assumption that I needed to own a Pelikan pen until someone told me that wasn’t the case. Knowing me, I’ll probably walk away wanting one, though. 😂 The idea of going alone is already intimidating me, and I have been known to show up late to events that I want to go to, but am also intimidated by. 😅

I just started getting fountain pens. I went to my first pen club yesterday and will be at my first pelikan hub this fall. I am terribly not social and always just chill awkwardly away from most people, but i would rather be there than at home doing nothing.

Yes!! Good for you on getting out there! I truly understand the feeling. I usually wait for people to approach me to talk. It always ends up being a rewarding experience tho.

I'm going to my first hub in September. I'm awkward in a new group too. There were 130 signed up for my hub, so now they're looking for a bigger venue. I'll get lost in that crowd.

I love seeing how Pelikan Hubs are run around the world. I'm very happy that my own is really non-fuss. It's basically the monthly fountain pen meet but at night time. I joke to my friends that I can never see the colour of the inks until the next morning (because it gets dark at 5pm in Australia, and Hub starts at 6pm, and our hub is outside at a pub). It's a buy your own food type of venue. I've been to two Hubs now, and both have door prizes and lots of people. I wish it was at a brighter time of day. This year's Hub falls on the day before the pen meet (like last year). Last year I went to both pen meet and Hub, and the pen meet the day after was both a debrief and revelation about the actual colours of inks haha. The Hub notebook from both years is high GSM and only fountain pen friendly with inks from a fountain pen, and not a dip pen. I like using it with even my stub nibs, and for light ink art. It's terrible for massive pools of inks to show sheen. It's awful for sheen, but good for shading. I actually nabbed a spare one from the Hub Master 2 years ago because I really love the chonky thickness of each page. The Pelikan pen you received is so cute! I wish I had the opportunity to try it. I love the idea of having a vintage fountain pen, but worry about durability and cost. At this stage, I'm just willing to make my pens age to vintage status XD Hopefully I live that long! But considering I'm only 2 years in the hobby, I think it'd be fun to make maybe the 10th anniversary of my hobby a day to venture into vintage pens.

Wow! That’s so fun to hear how others’ Hubs are run. Ours is also pretty low-key. It’s like the regular pen meet + more people. You know what, that Pelikan hub paper might actually be good for letter writing, then. I’ll have to use it next time I’m writing to a friend. I appreciate your dedication to pacing yourself in this hobby. I wish I had that self-discipline!! I haven’t really looked into vintage pens and don’t know if I really will in the near future.

@@StationeryDumpling It was a harder struggle when I first got into fountain pens. But I'm very grateful for it now. My tastes in pens and inks have certainly changed a heap. It's been amazing to reflect back on, and I personally love that I have paced it well enough that it's not necessary to sell any of my collection due to space or lack of desire for that pen/ink.

New Old Stock means that it is made a long time ago, but it's not used yet. So it's still technically new. For example, in our country, you can buy Platinum pocket pens with 14/18K nibs that is made in the 70's. No one has used it yet. It's practically stocked in shelves/warehouse/recycling facilities for about 50 years. You can buy it for about 5 USD.

I signed up for me and my boyfriend he doesn’t care about fountain pens but he’s supportive I’m very introverted and he’s a extreme extrovert I’m nervous about going but excited too I’ll most likely only have my Realo to bring with me but I’m still excited ❤❤

I completely understand that feeling! Can you bring a friend for support? Or, once you breathe a little and realize if you talk to people, you get to try more pens, then it helps to not feel as bad. 🤗
