In this video, Nathan explains the difference between a push-to-talk (PTT) microphone and a “normal” handheld microphone and why a PTT mic might be better for your application.
A push-to-talk paging microphone is a type of microphone that requires the user to press a button or switch to activate the microphone and transmit audio. When the button is pressed, it opens the audio circuit, allowing the user's voice to be transmitted over a communication system.
The PTT feature is commonly used when constant open microphone communication is impractical or unwanted. For example, when making announcements in a school, retail store, restaurant, or stadium, PTT allows users to speak only when necessary, reducing background noise and conserving bandwidth.
