There's an excellent book written by the Tunisian, Muslim scholar Sami Amiri, which tackles this issue of secularism in depth. The book is in Arabic and it's called, "العالمانية طاعون العصر" "Secularism: the plague of the modern age.". The book is in Arabic and hasn't been translated into English yet (hopefully it will be in the future).
As a muslim, I always admire the Quran Surah Al Baqarah verse 208. It is clearly tells us to become a wholehearted Islam and not to follow Syaitan's footsteps. May Allah always bless and guide us all..
A secular Muslim is the one who is a lay Muslim who thinks that Shariah needs to change with time simply because the West says so. They have more faith in the West (and its ideologies) due to its success than they have in Allah. However, as Muslims, we must believe that worldly success is something Allah has decreed for the disbelievers as this is their only Paradise. As Muslims, it is success in the Hereafter that we are after. And who would not want that success in lieu of this worldly life except a Hypocrite? A secular Muslim is that Hypocrite and some don't even hide it saying they are ex-Muslims or agnostic Muslims :)
Perfectly phrased♡. The secular muslim is put forth as the modern mindset by many, opposite to the muslim who wants to apply islam in all aspects of his life. The contradiction in terms is not even noticed by some muslims who marginalize religion to the extreme. The nature of Islam is all encompassing; Allah is Wiise and Miighty and has His plan. The Quran is timeless and eaternal.. We are weak and have restricted understanding: we are in need of guidance.. Makes no sense to leave out God's laws selectively...
The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, advised us in the “wars” and said: “Do not cut down a tree.. and do not kill a woman, a boy, a newborn, an old man, or a sick person.. do not mutilate corpses.. do not kill extravagantly.. do not destroy a temple, and do not vandalize a building.” Amer.. Even camels and cows are not slaughtered except for eating.” He also recommended us to do good to the captive, to honor him and feed him.. and to fulfill the covenant.. and finally, not to force anyone to convert to Islam.. After him came the reign of our master Umar ibn al-Khattab al-Faruq, who distinguished between the truth and the truth. And falsehood, may God be pleased with him.. (Their churches shall not be inhabited, nor demolished, nor shall their good, nor their crosses, nor any of their wealth be diminished. They shall not be forced against their religion, and none of them shall be harmed). Omar follows the law of the Messenger of God
Salaams Paul, I have always considered myself to be a “secular” Muslim without giving it much thought. Your short video has provided a very deep and thought-provoking quote that has fired up my intellect, Al'ham'du'li'laah:
