The first video example is a variation of smash and bow. I just got done watching the Bow concept video and I recognized it immediately on the backside. As a HS coach I'm loving getting in depth looks at these pass concepts breakdowns.

Just noticed Justin Herbert uses this, 1 foot into a shuffle for 3 step, and 3 steps into a shuffle for 5 step

the one step shuffle feels like it gets your momentum going backwards more, making it easier to get all your cleats in the ground on your back foot and making it easier to transfer through hips.

Really good video as always. :) I've noticed Brady doing this special footwork you referenced and I see it a bit differently. To me the big thing is he crosses his left foot behind his right which to me at first was really unusual (as I was taught to cross in front and most QBs do the same). I figured he does it to be more lined up when his throwing left and this is the first time I saw him do it to the right. I believe the intent behind is the same that you mentioned (manipulate the footwork so he's lined up and in time for different routes) it's just not really a shuffle rather than another way of cross-stepping. What do you think?

Someone really needs to do a deep dive on the evolution of Brady's footwork over the years. His crossover step is a later development that really caught my eye. In general I feel like his footwork is so smooth by taking bigger steps, almost like a dancer the way he pushes off so it looks very casual, but covers a lot of ground and sets him up quickly so he has max flexibility on his throw or a reset. Also, he has this way of bouncing on two feet that also lets him reset his aim quickly if he's off his first read and into his progression. Accomplishes some of the same things as a shuffle, but it's more balanced and sound, and importantly, he's not moving backwards, but gets back quicker so he can step up as needed.

Can you do a video about keys to scouting QBs? I’m an Area scout for the Hula Bowl. I’ll be scouting Players in Utah. I’ll be looking at Jaren Hall out of BYU

Is it fair to blame an offinsive line for not protecting the QB if the QB drops back into a different zone. I actually saw Tom Brady when I was on vacation and in the same hotel... practicing dropping back to specific marks like he just took a snap. He was just doing this n his own and it was just a couple of years ago. So it seems to me some offensive lines might be taking the blame when they drop back to the wrong launch zone.

Why do I see QB's bring the ball up and back with their throwing hand on the bottom.. is this to prevent fumbles ? If so, why is Justin Fields holding the ball with hand on top ? He is on his 2nd QB coach and he is still doing it ?

Fields reworked his footwork & throwing motion this last off season & its definitely much better! You say he is on his 2nd QB coach as if he got him fired lol. New coaches come in with a new regime. Fields basically had no coaching last year & was hung out to dry by Nagy & Co! Janocko/Getsy are so much more engaged with him then DeFilipio/Lazor ever was.

@@Mandy_39 I know he got a new QB coach and I thought that the new coach would notice him pulling the ball up with his hand on top... they have not fixed that.. They did correct his footwork I could clearly see.. I see him goinf thru some progressions but he is to quick and needs to not panic.. He is still panic throwing a lot of the time.. but at least he actully looking now.. he never did last year.. but a major flaw is holding the ball with his hand on top... if that is not corrected he has a greater chance to fumble.... Defenders swipe down at the football and your hand needs to be on the bottom.

@@robertwadas well yeah of course he had under 2 seconds to throw the ball on almost 2/3 of the snaps last year! I don't think he is panic throwing at all, he was still going through his reads. It's going to take him a bit to get that out of his head & stay in the pocket that 1 extra second. Easy for us to say sitting on our couch, we don't have 350# dudes trying to hurt us.. It's unfortunate Nagy just threw him out w/ no game plan, no scheme, just chaos! Ppl expect these guys to be great year 1 & it rarely happens! Once every 4 years or so, if that because it's that hard of a position. I think he is doing fine & with more reps he will get there. What do u mean with his hand on top, so u want him to hold it on the bottom so he has to turn it each time to throw? Maybe I'm not realizing what u mean, I'll have to look.

@@Mandy_39 Going thru reads... he threw exactly 7 passes the entire season to any other player than his first read.. He had 1 game where he averaged 2.87 seconds in 1 game.. He held onto ball above 3 seconds for the season. Other games he avg 3.8, 3.27, 3.3...... I dont expect any QB to be great 1st year... I think it is stupid to start a 1st year QB... Only 3 QBs who started the rookie year actually won a Superbowl. I do expect him to read an RPO defense.. From high school, you learn if there is an unblocked defender.. it becomes a run play... and the Cleveland game showed that clearly. He was horrible at reading defenses... Ohio State has a one read and run.. which is exactly what he did his first year in NFL . I did not expect him to be the lowest QB in yards gained after first touch with all the speed. He was chased down easily.. hence the -254.losses
