GREAT review of options. I’m going to see if I can achieve my goals on my vintage machine with a narrow, shorter zigzag i.e. “the wonky straight stitch”. Thanks for the hint to go narrower and shorter for discretion. Wish me luck! 😉. Great video. I learned a lot! Thank you! 👏👏👏

Hi, thank you for this video. It is very helpful. When using the triple stitch, what is your recommended stitch length?

Neither of my sewing machines actually had the option to adjust stitch length on the triple stitch, so I have not had the opportunity to test this. But based on what seems to work best with an ordinary straight stitch, I would guess 3.0 is probably a good stitch length. Standard setting tends to be more like 2.2-2.5.

Yes that Lightning Bolt and stretch stitch are near impossible to get out. I see doll clothes. Lol. I sewed a panel on the wrong side and opted to remove it. Took hours. Then I realized I took off the wrong panel. Lol lol so more hours invested. Lol lol. My granddaughter wanted an orange dress for her Barbie. …..

Thank you for your video. I like the fact you keep it short and to the point. One question, though: I have some work trousers that I need to alter around the back rise seam and I used the plain straight stitch. The seam popped, as you said, as soon as I sat down in those trousers. Shall I use the triple seam or the lightning bolt seam next time I mend them? I've been afraid to do anything to them for fear of making it worse. I have a normal sewing machine with a nice selection of stitches, not a serger. Thank you.

Personally I have found the triple stitch much stronger than the lightning bolt - I would use the triple stitch

Many of our videos are oriented towards beginners, but we don't have anything uploaded yet covering the absolute beginner basics of how to use a sewing machine. Many of those basics (such as threading, adjusting settings, etc) will vary widely depending on the model of your machine. I would suggest searching for a video on how to use your specific machine. I hope that helps!

does the fabric play a part in the stitch? Like thicker knit might work better with this stitch? And thinner knit work better with another? Or not? I’m not sure

In my experience not really, if one stitch is more difficult because of the fabric weight, then generally they are all more difficult. I have a video about working with bamboo fabric that has some tips that would apply for all thin stretchy fabrics - there are other things you can do to make it easier, besides stitch types :)

I heard that a walking foot can’t be used with stitches that go backwards. Can you confirm if you can use a triple stitch with a walking foot?

I have heard this too, but my machine had no problem with it. Not sure if other machines might not like it though.
