i always wondered what systolic & diastolic as related to me from the reading of the blood pressure device. thank you Khan Academy

you have neat handwriting. also, if u decrease arteriolar resistance, you will decrease afterload

Thank you so much for the help but there is a slight technicality with the explanation . When we change afterload , preload is constant thus we can examine relationship between afterload and contractility but here you changed the preload which is invalid . Increasing afterload (aortic or pulmonary pressue ) leads to a decrease in contraction by less shortening and velocity thus less stroke volume and less cardiac output .

the combined load of EDV &arterial resistance during ventricular contraction = afterload

Increase in afterload pathologically will start as a diastolic dysfunction or systolic dysfunction?.
@henrydabomb
@henrydabomb 11 лет назад
When u draw the biggest loop(blue) you increase the afterload but dont you also increase the preload/EDV? Because the figure in my textbook has the same right border when afterload increases causing a taller and narrower loop thus decreasing stroke volume. But in your drawing it increases in width(preload) aswell as in hight(afterload). Can you please explain this to me?

I just wanted a simple definition of afterload, using the equations over complicates things and at the level at which i'm currently at, it's not useful in helping me understand the concept of afterload.

You cant understand the concept without the equations

You keep saying left ventricle in this video and the preload video, but both the right and left ventricle have to do with preload and after load right? Not just the left??
@devalpatel8816
@devalpatel8816 3 года назад
Yes, but it is so named because the Left is a relatively high-pressure system, making the left heart failure more common, and hence more a center of focus. He did the same in the heart sounds videos.

No! This isn't right man. The AfterLoad has to be indipendent from the PreLoad. The afterload is not explained by Laplace. The afterload is explained by Poiseuille!
