AI just takes over everything! See, I watched til the very end. lol Seriously, I think you're spot on with your analysis and love how you explained the history of how we got here. So many folks in Management still seem to have the 'iron triangle' mentality, where time, scope and cost (people) are all fixed. Prioritized backlogs have changed all this, but we can't box the Teams into a date. Self-organization, trust, transparency. Also agree that SAFe is way too complex (they do have a simple version of it now, btw), and most companies have modified it to fit their unique needs. And yes, the certification racquet got out of control over the years; big money grab.

When Agile training became a business it was game over. With scrum there are a lot of processes that may not work for your team - in our case daily standups and even sprints (retrospectives don't seem that useful either). You do need to take the bits that work and throw away the bits that don't to be truly agile.

I really enjoy listening to some others perspective on the history, the intent, the malpractice and other follies in this topic. So many companies seem to just 'do the agile' while having lost sight of why that was a thing and how to help teams deliver, vs a management progress tracking solution.

Yeah, the really weird part to me (and part of why I made this video) was realizing how someone might have worked in tech for *10 years* and not really know anything about the background. Something something hero die or become the villain something something... ;)

It's a Great Video.. You touched upon the Good side & Bad side in General Agile practice.. I worked on SAFe was interesting coz I see there was a clarity on every bit of detail that was planned & divided into user stories. I felt the strong point is the architect & Businesses Analyst to pick the user stories to divide further into story points to deliver the peace of software by the end if the scrum both from the dev & testing team. I have seen the worst part in another project with project management switching from agile to waterfall at their convenience which made delays in delivering the peace that is planned. You touched upon dependencies & can you do another video on lean practice also don't know how much you prioritise on doing such video. Hope I can search you on LinkedIn to follow you.

Based on the view counts I don’t know how much stuff like lean is resonating right now. To a certain extent, I guess I feel like all of this stuff has been very well documented for a while now. Lots and lots of great books on lean, agile, ci/cd, etc. But getting people to care? To bother to learn? To be decent to each other? If folks are able to agree and work well together that’s awesome. Having tools in the toolbox is great.

Even some of the project release terminology that we still use today originated in the 80's inspired by NASA-style big-bang systems ("launching") and shrink-wrapped software packages ("shipping")...

Yeah. I resisted adding a shot of the Challenger in the main video, but I thought about it... 😬

Hi, can you suggest pdf to read Agile methodologies.

I don’t know of a specific pdf. Try searching for “intro to”and/or “cheat sheet” for the following: Scrum, Kanban, Lean, m CI/CD and that should get you started…

SAFe. Forced down the throats of hardware engineers that can "ship" 3 times ever. (Proto1, proto2, customer)

Just had a friend who got a SAFe certification. 100% to try to get higher end jobs. Not quite sure what to say other than good luck. 🤷‍♂️

Eggheads that think being part of the human centipede is what's vital for career growth are what has led to BS like SAFe being a thing. It doesn't get challenged about how awful it is.
