WHAT IS AIMPOINT REALLY ABOUT? SHOULD YOU BOTHER? We all saw Dustin Johnson win the masters and his caddy using the aim point express green reading method, we have also seen Rory Mcilroy use this method, Justin Rose use this method and other golfers around the world use the Aimpoint Express green reading. but what is it? can you do it? should you bother with aimpoint? is aim point green reading a con? all these questions I hear so often. so in this video we answer the questions. Aimpoint express putting is something myself an Chris are quite common with, this isn't exactly an aimpoint express tutorial, as I don't believe you can learn this online... let's do it... and let's do it now!

Great video guys. I've heard about Aimpoint and seen some of the players on tour use it but you two gave a really good explanation of some of the key points of it. Where I live (Georgia in the U.S.) I can't find too much info on lessons being given on it.

James, I play with so many golfers that play off 18-28 that can’t read a green and a few lower than that who suffer the same problem. Personally I learned to read greens playing EA Sports golf games, understanding the break, where in the putt it is and how that sets the aim point is so important. If you guys can use AimPoint to teach people to feel and visualize greens, as pretentious as it looks people should try it, green reading saved me 7-10 shots a round.

I have a digital level. When I use this, do I put in on degrees or slope % when learning? I thought I leaned this before, but is the degree’s or slope percentage that were actually trying to feel with your feet?

I purchased the Aim Point Express DVD and two (one big, one small) electronic levels to use during practice. As you mention, the difficulty in estimating the percentage of slope was too difficult for me to get right. I wish there was a level 4 or 5 instructor nearby (the only level 5 instructor in the USA is the guy who invented the system, and the only level 4 is Jamie Donaldson in the UK). I see that James is a level 1 instructor, so perhaps I got the instructor "ability" wrong. If James at level 1 can teach better methods of judging percentage of slope, then maybe the single level 1 instructor in the Myrtle Beach area can do so as well.

I also purchased the video but I’m worried about trying to learn the feels myself. I did see an interesting video with Lydia Ko quickly showing how she uses her knees as reference against her shows as she couldn’t get the feels right. I wanted to take a course but closest instructor to me was a 4 hour drive so a course is likely waiting until I’m travelling again and can arrange it somewhere with more instructors.

I have watched your video more than once. My experience is that this method is helpful in reducing the number of 3-putts: no small benefit to nearly all golfers.

I've used it for about 18 months and it works. It transformed my wife's putting because she always read the break wrong - not anymore. For me: easy to learn (but you have to commit) and does NOT take alot of time for each read once you are used to it. Of course, as you mentioned, you have to start the ball on the intended line and have speed control. Some of the most useful training I have done.

Adare Manor is class btw. Greens are incredible. I play in the old Adare Manor golf club across the way from the resort course. A small bit pricey though.

The number of fingers are the degree of slope they think it will break. 2 fingers it 2°...put the side of one finger in middle of cup and the other side on the high side of the hole....the outside will be your aim point

I have just started not over thinking putts. I used to take that much time reading putts and worrying bout getting my line that I would lose my feel for pace. Now I just look once practice swing then pull trigger dont use line. Works good for me.

At the amateur level, the next person that AIMpoint improves will be the first. It's a crutch for the weekend golfer to go slow and to stomp on the line of other peoples putts....should be outlawed
