I hold an Amillennial view after considering the language and style of Revelation, the context it was written in and to whom it was addressed. This, however, is a secondary matter and I have respect for believers who disagree.

I lean optimistic amill. I do agree with the basic idea of postmillers that the spread of the Gospel gradually makes the world a better place, I just disagree with their exact wording on certain issues. I simply don't believe there's enough information provided to support postmill commentary. I am a former premill dispensationalist though. I think this is more flexible and allows us to acknowledge the world and society as a whole goes through phases of ups and downs.

To my reading, where the amillennial interpretation of chaining of Satan in Revelation 20 is found lacking is verse 3 where we are told that Satan, having been bound and thrown into the bottomless pit, is then shut in with a seal. If he is currently in the bottomless pit, sealed in, then I am mystified as to how Satan be so busy in the world today as we see all around us. In addition it would seem that someone has been able to break God's seal. To my thinking allegorizing the chain, binding, bottomless pit and the seal is truly a stretch of the imagination.

How is the devil bound when he is literally called "the god of this world" during the church age? He is bound so that he cannot deceive the saints, yet the Bible is full of warnings about him deceiving people, blinding their minds, being under the power of Satan, etc.

@@glenhowell6909 You'll have to explain to me how you think that supports amillennialism. Most people I know tend to believe that refers to either the initial fall of the angels with the binding of certain ones or for those who believe in the angel/human mixed race of Gen 6 they often think it describes a parallel judgment that happened at the time of the flood. I'm not sure how that would support Amillenialism.

@jrconway3
@jrconway3 4 месяца назад
The problem with this argument is its a misunderstanding of what "bound" means. For one thing, Jesus himself said he was binding the enemy. As Alan also said: And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but [l]he is finished! 27 But no one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house. The passage here is explaining the meaning of what is later found in Revelation. In order to plunder the "strongman's" house (the Earth) the strongman must first be bound. That doesn't mean evil stops existing, but it allows the Gospel to go out to the world. Prior to Jesus, who was capable of receiving salvation? Almost nobody. Now anyone can come to Christ upon hearing the Gospel.

I disagree with the 1,000 years. If it’s not literal then does that mean Adam, Noah and Methuselah never lived almost 1,000 years? Then is that false no! As for Satan being bound when in history has he ever stopped the gospel-never! It has survived till this very day. So I say no again. Until he is thrown into the great abyss to no longer mislead the nations he still is in charge of this world misleading thousand. He is still out trying to steal, kill and destroy Gods people. I believe we will have freedom from Satan as Gods promise says so. As for earth it was always God plan that man live on this earth for eternity (had they not sinned) the prospect of eternity was very real. I think I’ll let Gods plan work it out.

My question is, why does the revelation of Christ give the history of Christ? What is the purpose of giving a revelation of events that already happened?

Read all of Revelation 12. It's not so much about the history of Christ as it is about the history, and future history, of Israel. The woman who gave birth to the Messiah will be persecuted by the Antichrist during the Tribulation. And just as God protected Christ from Herod, He will protect the woman from Antichrist.

This was a good initial presentation of what the position is. I don't hold to ammilenialism. I believe that if we can imagine for a moment that we do not have the New Testament and we read the escathological passages of the Old Testament, we end up with a clear literal kingdom of the messiah on Earth with the Messiah physically present and reigning. If we say that the New Testament comes and changes that, we are affirming that either the Old testament writters never righly understood God's revelation to them, or we are suggesting that the Bible is erring and then correcting itself. That should be untennable to every Christian. I believe that a plain reading of the NT confirms the escathological view of the OT. Blessings.

@kathierouse6046 Hi Kathie! Thanks so much for your question. Yes, I definitely reject dispensationalism and I absolutely hold to covenant theology. You would need to define symbology for me. If by that you are asking whether I hold to say an idealist interpretation of the Book of Revelation, then my answer would be "No". I hold to moderate preterism along with post-millenialism. I also have a few nuances in my eschatology. I believe the Man of Sin in 2 Thes 2 to be an actual person who will appear during Satan's final rebellion in Rev 20. I hope that at least partially answered your question.
@Sansho1954
@Sansho1954 4 месяца назад
I also reject dispensationalism, but after briefly considering a-millennialism I couldn't reconcile that interpretation with other passages in the NT like 2 Cor ch 4 v 4. The final nail in the coffin for me was studying the 7th Century and seeing the majority of the nations that the gospel had spread to being deceived again by the teachings of islam and those nations being deceived again with very little gospel light penetrating them for 1400 years. In addition to that, the other parts of the world where the gospel had spread to were largely put under (to me, the false teachings of) Roman Catholicism for 1000 years until the light of the reformation burst forth. All of that meant that I couldn't put all of that down to the world and the flesh - I see the devil behind much of that and for me it ties in with Paul's assertion that he is the god of this world. There are other reasons that led me to an historical pre-millennial interpretation of Revelation ch 20, but this for me was a compelling reason.

At least some Amillennialists believe that the Christians who have died are ruling with Christ from Heaven. This takes place during the time between Christ’s First and Second Comings. They believe Satan is bound. Here is a major problem with that; If we just take a simple look at the world today it certainly does not appear that Satan is bound (so as not to deceive the nations) and Christ is ruling and reigning. If Satan is bound during the Church Age as per Amillennial doctrine, then why does scripture call him the god of this world? Also, if Satan was bound and Christ was reigning, do we really think we would have over a billion Muslims, who view Jesus as a prophet right below Mohamad, a billion Buddhists, who believe Jesus was an enlightened person, a billion Hindus, who believe Jesus studied yoga and became a guru to the Jews, a billion Catholics who are entrusting their souls to Mary at the hour of their death, nearly a billion atheists, the LGBTQ running rampant, TV shows and movies, that continually blaspheme God and His Christ, drinking, drugs, human trafficking, and colleges that have become propaganda mills that promote Godless, Big-bang theology and Darwinian Evolution, and a host of other sinful deeds that will be eliminated during the reign of Jesus Christ, our Holy God. This is a good example of eisegesis; reading pre-conceived ideas into the text, rather than simply reading what the text is clearly stating. Also, with Christ ruling from Heaven, why does 2nd Timothy 3:1-13 say, "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God."

A Millennium Puzzle to solve… Will Christ be conducting funeral services for mortals killed in accidents 500 years after His Second Coming? The “first resurrection” in Rev. chapter 20 is not the first bodily resurrection in the Book of Revelation, because the two witnesses are resurrected from the dead in chapter 11. There are two different types of resurrection in John chapter 5. There is a spiritual resurrection from the dead in John 5:24, and a bodily resurrection from the dead in John 5:28-29. Does your view of the Millennium agree with what Paul said in 2 Thess. 1:7-10, when Paul said Christ returns in "flaming fire" taking vengeance on those who do not obey the Gospel? The fire comes at the end of Rev. chapter 20. Does your view agree with what Peter said in 2 Peter 3:10-13, when Peter said this earth is going to burn and "dissolve" when He comes as a thief on the day of the Lord? The fire comes at the end of Rev. chapter 20. Does your view agree with what Paul said in 2 Tim. 4:1, when Paul said both the living and the dead will be judged at His appearing? The time of the judgment of the dead, with reward for some and destruction for others is found in Rev. 11:18, right after the 7th trumpet, which is the last trumpet in the Bible. (This verse also proves the Book of Rev. is not in chronological order.) The judgment of the dead is also found at the end of Rev. chapter 20. Does your view agree with what Jesus said in Matt. 25:31-46, where He described the judgment of the sheep and goats, which leaves no mortals alive on the planet at the end of the passage? There are also no mortals left alive on the planet at the end of Rev. chapter 19. Does your view agree with Peter in 2 Pet. 2:4, and Jude in Jude 1:6, when they both said wicked angels are already in chains of darkness? Does your view agree with what John recorded in Rev. 9:1-2, when an angel comes down from heaven with a key to unlock the pit, which means the pit was locked before that time? Are there wicked angels already in the pit in Rev. 9:11? John recorded angels already "bound" in Rev. 9:14. The beast "ascends" out of the pit in Rev. chapter 11, which means the beast was in the pit before that time. Take all of the above and compare it to the symbolic language found in Rev. chapter 20, and the fact the Book of Revelation is not in chronological order, and you will have the truth. ============= Multiple Second Coming Visions in Revelation: (book not in chronological order ) Christ returns one time in the future. However, there are several different visions of His return shown from different perspectives in the Book of Revelation. Christ returns at the end of Revelation chapter 6, with signs in the sun, moon, and stars, as are found in the Olivet Discourse. Those at the end of the chapter are hiding from the wrath of the Lamb. Why would they be hiding if Christ is not present? The "kings", "captains", "might men", "free", and "bond" are also found in chapter 19 at the return of Christ. He returns at the 7th trumpet, which is the last trumpet in the Bible, and the time of the judgment of the dead in Revelation 11:15-18. The beginning of chapter 12 is a history lesson containing the fall of Satan, and the birth and death of Christ, who is the seed promised to crush the head of Satan in Genesis 3:15. The Second Coming is found in the "harvest" of chapter 14, which is related to the parable of the wheat and tares in Matthew chapter 13. He comes as a thief at Armageddon, and we find the greatest earthquake in history in chapter 16. This occurs when the 7th angel pours out his vial. How powerful is an earthquake which moves islands and destroys the mountains? What is happening to the planet? He comes on a horse in chapter 19, right after the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Chapter 20? Does He come with the fire, and the judgment of the dead at the end of chapter 20, which agrees with what Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, and 2 Timothy 4:1? (The time of the judgment of the dead is also found in Revelation 11:18.) There are no mortals left alive on the planet at the end of Matthew 25:31-46. Why does an angel come down from heaven with a key to unlock the bottomless pit in Revelation 9:1-2, if the pit was not already locked before that time? Are there wicked angels in the pit in Rev. 9:11? If the beast "ascends" from the pit in Rev. chapter 11, where was the beast before that time? Does your view agree with Peter in 2 Pet. 2:4, and Jude in Jude 1:6, when they both said wicked angels are already in chains of darkness? Revelation 9:14 proves some of the angels were previously bound in some manner. Because the two witnesses were bodily resurrected from the dead in Revelation 11, the "first resurrection" at the beginning of Revelation 20 is not the first bodily resurrection in the book. The principle of "Recapitulation" means there are multiple visions of His return.

This all depends on your hermeneutic, if you start with the wrong assumptions you end up with the wrong conclusions. The only view that is consistent through out the Bible and makes sense is the Historical, grammatical, Intentional, literal hermeneutic and a plain straight forward reading of the text in the context that it's in. When the plain sense of scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense; therefore, take every word at its primary, ordinary, usual, literal meaning (in the original languages) unless the facts of the immediate context, studied in the light of related passages and axiomatic and fundamental truths, indicate clearly otherwise. @@troy5659 Because of what Christ said in Revelation 1:20 we know the Book of Revelation contains symbolic language. In this verse Jesus said the word "stars" is a symbol of the angels, and the word "candlesticks" is a symbol of the churches.

@troy5659 4 месяца назад
@@SpotterVideo Yes, I agree. I don't think seeing things that are symbolic like that are the issue. I think the issue is the meaning and the context of that meaning. The symbolic language is telling a story and that story has a meaning that will happen. Like in the OT they said satan was a dragon but just because they said dragon doesn't mean the context of that story was not really going to happen. It appears that Amil. takes away the meaning of the symbolism and explains it away so that it doesn't mean what it says, where the other side see's the story and says that it will happen in reality. John is explaining the book in a spiritual symbolic way buy that doesn't mean what he is saying will not happen in reality. Like in Joel 2:30-31, when that happens the sun will actually be dark and the moon will be red, the symbolism will happen just like all the parables. I think that this is the issue.

@troy5659 4 месяца назад
@@SpotterVideo Looking at what you wrote the first thing that sticks out is that it's your opinion. Also, your reading Revelation and The millennium back into the NT and ignoring the biblical purpose of the 1000 years. The millennium kingdom is the 1,000-year reign of Jesus that fulfills Luke 1:31-33 and is after the 70th week of Daniel / Jacobs trouble and is before the Great White Throne Judgment of the wicked. During the millennium, Jesus will reign as king over Israel and all the nations of the world (Isaiah 2:4; 42:1). The world will live in peace (Isaiah 11:6-9; 32:17-18, Micah 4:2-4), Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:1-3), and, at the beginning, everyone will worship God (Isaiah 2:2-3). The purpose of the 1,000-year reign is to fulfill various promises God made to the world. Some of these promises, called covenants, were given specifically to Israel. Others were given to Jesus 2 Samuel 7:16, the nations of the world, and creation. Jesus’ 1,000-year reign will be a time of promises kept. The Bible tells of the conditions during the millennium as a perfect environment physically and spiritually. It will be a time of peace (Micah 4:2-4; Isaiah 32:17-18), joy (Isaiah 61:7, 10), and comfort (Isaiah 40:1-2). The Bible also tells us that only believers will enter the millennial kingdom. Because of this, it will be a time of obedience (Jeremiah 31:33), holiness (Isaiah 35:8), truth (Isaiah 65:16), and the knowledge of God (Isaiah 11:9; Habakkuk 2:14). Christ will rule as king (Isaiah 9:3-7; 11:1-10). Nobles and governors will also rule (Isaiah 32:1; Matthew 19:28), and Jerusalem will be the political center of the world (Zechariah 8:3). The Millennial Kingdom fulfills the Lord's promise that Jesus will rule and reign from Jerusalem. Countless other passages point to a literal reign of the Messiah on the earth. The fulfillment of many of God’s covenants and promises rests on a literal, physical, future kingdom.
