I noticed this was posted in 2013. It's now 2021 and the term Evangelical in America is nothing more than someone who is a right-wing Republican. Now that I know that reality, I'm proud to be a registered independent voter. It's so sad how things have evolved.
We are called to be separate from the world. To be an example. It seems to me that Liberalism is concerned with being IN the world, and Evangelicalism is having a bet each way. I believe Fundamentalism is the true way. Standing out from the crowd for Christ no matter the cost, through faith not works.
I reverted back to the original fundamental Church. The one that has always embraced intellectualism, social implications and even scientific discovery - all as outpouring of God’s revelation. The One Church started by Jesus. The One they so many are flocking to because they see that His Church has always cared about handing down His Truth in every generation and age for 2000 years.

I was listening with a skeptical ear.. (i.e. that you could do justice to this topic in such little time) ..but think you in fact did a great job explaining the development of these movements and the significance of terms too easily thrown around. After God gave me the Holy Spirit, by read the 10 commandments, I found proof that TV, movies, watching sports (violence like football, covet their lives and they are idols), novels, music, video games and computer games are all sins, except Christian stuff that don’t have sins like sermons and Christian music words that gives messages. For years Ive called myself a "Personal Christian" mainly for not trusting churches but trusting only the bible. Not trusting churches and why is summed up somewhat in this video. I always Trust God and his teachings. I just don't always trust those who are speaking them nor trust that they have the TRUE meaning of the lesson. Many times humans have used the teachings of God to create chaos destruction fear and control. That is what I have always wished to avoid. But thankfully, I now can finally give a simple explanation to what I believe when asked what is a "Personal Christian" I can say look up what an Evangelical is and you can better understand what I believe and who and how I worship and why. For the longest time I thought I fit in no where even though I believe in much of what the others believe but not in the same way or all at once. Ive been watching the show (The Chosen) since it first came out. About a year and a half ago, almost 2 yrs at this point. The director is an Evangelical but he brings in all matters of Christian faith to help tell the greatest story ever told. The story of Jesus of Nazareth! I had an urge to search what his faith title meant. We all know what our faith title means to us but not so much so that we know what others see. In both aspects I feel comfortable using its title to better help others understand my faith without having hour long discussions. If they prefer a simpler term I can now say Evangelical. So far its the closest mainstream title I can find thats closest to MY faith and beliefs. Thanks for making this video. An Evangelical holds the Bible in highest regard, i.e., it is 'inerrant', but the way it is interpreted marks the difference between an Evangelical and a Fundamentalist. An Evangelical will believe in the Bible, but interpret it, perhaps, more liberally as narrative, or myth, or philosophy (at least in some areas). A Fundamentalist will interpret it LITERALLY and STRICTLY. That's the fundamental (no pun intended) difference between these two schools of thought. Curiously and commonly, Fundamentalists often hide under the guise of Evangelicals, without even realising they are the former.

I’m 23 years old and was raised within an Protestant Evangelical household and even though I went to university for Christian Studies, the implications that this holds culturally is still incredibly lacking today I think. American Christians today generally have no idea where they come from, all we have it seems to me, is a sporadic grouping of denominations and churches. It feels so loose today. I mean does that impact our salvation? No, not really. But a substantial understanding of modern Christian history is dying in my opinion and nobody is noticing in this generation. And that is going to have a terrible ripple effect on politics and our cultural situation I think.

This was a good presentation up until the discussion of Carl Henry and then sadly it becomes a train wreck. Its called (free will) Moses could have chose to ignore God and make it harder for himself and his fellow Hebrews but instead he chose to listen. Even that is a feat because to listen doesn't mean to hear correctly. God is like a parent, he can teach us and do for us to a certain extent. Even make us go places and do things we don't want to do but that only lasts so long. In any aspect of the existence sooner rather then later the child chooses its own path and makes its own mistakes and there is nothing God or our parents can do to stop us from doing it. If the individual wants to do it they will eventually. Like job in the bible even free will has its limits to those TRULY chosen by God and in the end Gods will, WILL be done. Its just a matter of how long you want to be on a road of glass and shards compared to one of grass and soft dirt. If chosen by God you don't have a huge choice but to be merely created and not chosen is also a struggle. The path we walk is not strictly guided by God for his plans so we tend to stubble a LOT!! Most Christians are actually stupid enough to think that lip service is what is required. Faith is no mere belief, a belief will not save you, Faith is something much more profound. Christ is more than just the person, more than just the name, the essence of Christ is not flesh but spirit, and that spirit is love and truth. If you deny love and truth, you deny Christ, if you preach love and truth, you preach Christ. So will an atheist that teaches love and truth the same way Jesus did go to heaven? Only God knows that, neither you nor Pope Francis has a say. God ALWAYS speaks to us in metaphor, so we really do not *know* what *exactly* Jesus meant when he warned us that those who deny him in front of people will not see the kingdom of God. Atheist is just a word, a word of MEN, not a word of God, its essence is not clearly defined in truth and its meaning varies, and depending on the specifics that God requires, they may or may not be welcomed in the Kingdom of God. The same thing occurred when Jonah told Nineveh to repent or God would destroy them. Still as a Christian I do struggle with the limits of God's mercy. Abimelech seemed to have a relationship with God. So did Balaam. Moses's in-laws knew God though they were not part of Israel. Job was a righteous man though he was not part of Israel. Cornelious knew God though he was a Roman soldier. For me this is not just academic. I am half-Japanese. I was born in a country that is less than one per cent Christian. For example, we absolutely know for certain that the world wasn't created in six 24 hour days. We absolutely know for a fact that the flood never happened on this Earth, not in the way it was described in the Bible. Just imagine yourself in God's shoes for a minute, how do you explain your wisdom to some Bronze-age dude barely out of his cave? The purpose of the Bible is not to serve as a historical record, the purpose of the Bible is to teach right from wrong, good from evil. We know this from one assumption and one fact: we assume that the Bible is divinely inspired, and we KNOW that the Bible is historically inaccurate. People have always struggled to know God, the old Testament is an attempt of the Bronze Ages, it has eternal wisdom, but in a form that a Bronze Age man could process.
I’ve never met one “nice” evangelical Christian! Ok I’m from the UK so I’ve met 3 lol so it’s not genaralising. One was my best friend who was born again after a very traumatic acid trip. He turned from a likeable harmless hippy guy into a misogynistic racist homophobe, and any sort of disagreement with his views was met with quit an aggressively spoken verse from the bible, very sad! He was my best friend but after him telling me my dieing mother needed to be “born again” or she was going to hell, I could barely look at him. Another guy (I work with) African immigrant, was gangster, born again, I believe thinks he is absolved of being a monster and all the pain and hurt his caused innocent people because he now “walks in the light” and has a personal relationship with Jesus! Another really confusing angry person who is openly racist about his own race and poor people, women ect ect!
