What's the Difference between Christian Denominations? 

My church currently recognises the following denominations: $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100.

I really like his tie.

I never knew about the different denomination. But I’m Just a follower of Christ, so I Im not going to follow a denomination that contradicts with the Bible. Heaven is home. God won’t ask you what denomination you were. He’ll be more interested in what y’all did with His sons gift of life.❤️

I grew up (and still am) Pentecostal. I think he described the beliefs of Pentecostals quite well. As someone who has experienced some of these things first hand (speaking in tongues, divine healing, etc,) it is a powerful experience. Many people say it's emotionalism or anti-biblical, but it is absolutely real and genuine. I don't believe it was exclusively for the early church, as Acts 2:39 says "For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call."

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Jesus has many many millions upon millions of followers scattered all over this Earth, from many different backgrounds and denominations, if you can't handle this simple truth and you're telling yourself that only your denomination is the true church and only your members are children of God oh, that's a heck of a plank you have in your eye!! Jesus simply asks us to share the good news of the Gospel, not discourage and divide fellow Christians by self-righteously accusing them of being unGodly, you don't have to scroll down very far on this or other Christian videos find very hateful unchristian comments attacking each other, and yes I have certainly been guilty of this in the past I can testify that it only leads to guilt and shame, instead let us love and encourage our neighbor! We supposed to be all CHRISTIANS, but the church love division, CHRIST is not divided, a house divided can not stand.

I’m nondenominational. I don’t even like to say I’m religious. I claim to be faithful to Christ our Lord. Church is where two or more are gathered in Jesus’ name. I have Church with my family and friends. I don’t physically go to a church because within the denominations they are so strict on their interpretation of the Bible and often human judgement spreads like weeds into their sermons. Maybe one day I can find a church I like, but I’m happy building my own personal relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit for now.

The difference is one is created by Christ, the others are created by men

There should only be one church. Having 40,000 denominations is the reason why no one takes Christianity seriously.

I was a lifelong of agnostic that slowly came to Eastern orthodox christianity My mom is ethnically Jewish but was a practicing non denominational list which never really sold me. I had to go and intellectually stump on the faith and then and do some serious both the research and soul searching. I never quite had I found Jesus moment. For me it was a longing and a struggle and finding a home and still dealing with my failures but know I have the family in the church And saints to support me in my trying to become close to the Lord. But I honestly when I went to a Eastern orthodox service the matins on Christmas Eve day I never cried so hard in my life being able to hear the divine liturgy in its beauty in English.

i was confused about this as well before until i realized from reading the bible and searching that no denomination can actually save me. only JESUS CHRIST can save me. when people ask me what my religion is, i usually say that i do not have one but i do follow and love JESUS CHRIST as my messiah so i can identify as a christian(a person who follows and loves CHRIST) . i follow the teachings of GOD in the bible and i do not identify in any denomination. regarding where i go to church, i go to a Baptist church but i was clear when i talked to the pastor there that the baptist denomination cannot save people and that only JESUS can save people, and luckily we both had the same way of thinking. denominations cannot save people, only JESUS can for by his blood i am reconciled with the heavenly FATHER.

Wow. How true. I was baptized in the First Christian Church and soon learn that the Church of Christ and the First Christian Church were once one, but split over a disagreement about whether or not there should be music in church. Being young and often speaking before I thought, I pretty much said but that was a pretty stupid reason to split a church. The pastor seemed very offended and told me that, "Nevertheless, that was the truth!" So, it seems obvious that people can emphasize a difference to the exclusion of all commonalities. That is people. That is not God. Imperfect, fallen, indeed. Perhaps there is a deeper meaning to God referring to us as children.

There is only one name and it is Jesus. For He is the Word become flesh.

I only follow God and the Bible. I don't follow denominations. I was once a Catholic I grew up a Catholic. I became a non denomination Christian at 18.

Do you imitate Christ? Do you honor Mary, the Mother of God then? In the Old Testament the mother’s in the Davidic Kingdom were always the queens, not the wives! (Who was that last King in the Davidic Line? Yes, Jesus!) In Kings 2:19 “Then Bathsheba came to king Solomon, to speak to him for Adonias: and the king arose to meet her, and bowed to her, and sat down upon his throne: and a throne was set for the king’s mother, and she sat on his right hand.” The Queen Mother has honor and influence with the king, but the king remains the final authority Jesus was the last King in the Davidic kingdom, his mother was his queen and this is what Catholics believe about Jesus, the King of Kings, and His mother Mary who he has “Crowned With 12 Stars” and made the “Queen of Heaven” in Rev 12:1-5 below. 1 “AND a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 And being with child, she cried travailing in birth: and was in pain to be delivered. 3 And there was seen another sign in heaven. And behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns and on his heads seven diadems. 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to be delivered: that, when she should be delivered, he might devour her son. 5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with an iron rod. THANK YOU for explaining that even though there are many Protestant denominations, we largely agree on the core essentials. There is a lot of unity although we don't have as much uniformity as Roman Catholics or the Orthodox.

This is a no brainer , the reason there are countless denominations or separate group of Christians is because people have a mind of their own. Even if it goes against Gods plan. Jesus gave one Church and one Shepard to lead his Church, people have free choice and decided different.

I just converted from Islam to christianity, I'm glad that jesus christ guided me to christianity. But I'm confused with these type of thing, Baptist church etc. Are they different religions?

Where would someone find support for infant baptism? The Scriptures do not teach such an idea.

I was born and raised in a very strict Southern Baptist family but sent to school in an Assemblies of God school(the Baptist private school cost more, got to be practical, wink, wink, nudge, nudge!) I hear there are between 25,000 - 40,006 Protestant denominations. Each one supposedly leads to God, but the others don't. Which one? It sounds like chaos to me. So I went to my own Bible, a Protestant Bible, and ended up converting to the Catholic Church. I wasn't the only one, there are lots of former Protestants converting.

The devil introduces as many religions as needed as long as it doesn’t get you closer to God.

I'm a new Christian and these are the reasons I find it hard to choose a church. So complicated with all of the "Isms". It seems like the Church is a mess. I'm learning and reading the Bible on my own for now. I will find a Church or Denomination to join, I guess, when the time is right. For now, I'm learning so much on my own. I know we shouldn't forsake fellowship tho.

Do yourself a favor and follow Jesus, no denominational has any authority , read the Bible and make Jesus your church , study and pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you to like minded believers who will preach the truth and not man made doctrines, denominations create division among believers which is exactly what Satan wants

The fact is: Christianity is not a religion! It is a relationship!! It has nothing to do with rituals of any kind! That is the liberty that a born again believer has in Christ. If one is truly "born again" he understands why so much confusion! It is simply because the focus is on "what I can do" rather than "what Jesus Christ has already done". He died on the Cross for anyone who will humble accept His sacrifice as payment for sin! That fact changes everything,! Anyone today "whosoever will" shall be saved! True worship is not in a building made with hands; it is in Spirit and Truth! The Holy Spirit and the Truth of God's Holy Word! God will not bless our human efforts to please Him. He is pleased because we honor Him for what He has done; and then He works through us in the form of the Holy Spirit! I just have to say, "God is not the author of confusion'! If confusion exist, it is because, we are listening to a wrong voice! He Spirit brings peace; of mind and body!

But which one do you choose? I am a firm Christian believer. I just don't know which denomination is the right choice for me I am a Landmark Missionary Baptist. I was raised and am a member of this denomination but there are several things I don't agree with. Ugg Isn't there just a PLAIN old Church out there that doesn't have so many guesses and man made rules? I can't abide by people fighting over interpretation of the Bible and who is right or wrong. That makes me so nervous like I am doing something wrong.

No where in the scriptures say baptize you’re infants. It did say train up your child in the way it should go. For a infant too know nothing about God isn’t the way you should go about giving your spiritual inheritance too your baby. Instead let the brain develop too know right from wrong and too know who is God and how too pronounce Gods name and spell it.

Being free to be divided is still better than being "united" in one government-sanctioned church.

We also need to understand that back then, not every person knew how to read and not allowed to read. Only the father or bishops could. Nowadays most people can read, and dont need to rely on other peoples interpretations. The Bible speaks for itself.

Difference between Christian Denominations? It's simple Christ started a Church in 33 AD (The Roman Catholic Church) And men started 23000 different churches from 1520 AD to present.

As a Jew, this is still very confusing for me. There are so many different groups in Christianity and it doesn't help that I don't know many of the terms involved. Anyhow, thank you for your in-depth video, I still did learn a lot.

Some Protestant denominations have changed so much, that their beliefs are more different from Evangelicals than the Catholic religion is from Evangelicals. Many UCC churches, for example, are rich in ritual and will sing traditional hymns, but do not believe in one God, do not believe salvation is provided only through personal acceptance or Christ, or believe we make our own heaven and hell here on earth and to not believe in an afterlife. Many United Methodist, Episcopal, and other churches share similar views.

Thank you for this explanation about denominationalism. Most argument that I read claim that "Denominationalism is Division." However, their weakness in that kind of argument never tell which kind of "division" that they mean. From most Protestant's literature, I read that division is actually in refer to organizational disunity, not fundamental Protestant creed. Anyway, thank you for this explanation.

In practice, a lot of churches really put the head pastor in charge of all these things. Most charismatic/Pentecostal churches are like that. I refer to it as a dictatorship style of church government. Sometimes the dictator is a good guy and doesn’t abuse people. Other times he drives around in a $500,000 car and lives in a mansion.

God tells us more than once that we are to be of one mind. Divisions in the body do not come from God. There is only ONE interpretation of Scripture...GOD'S! It is our responsibility to study and find out what that is. What does God say? What does God mean? Nowhere does Scripture teach infant baptism because baptism does not save.

The fragmentation goes on and on. Jesus, give us the grace of humility and unite us as one.

I was raised Pentecostal (Assemblies of God). By grandfather (one of the greatest men of God I've ever known) was an AG pastor of 35 years after he was saved from alcoholism. I love all by Pentecostal and Charismatic brothers and sisters in Christ. However, I also praise God that he allowed me to see the derp error and falsehoods of Pentecostalism and the wicked heresy of Dispensationalism. To all my protestant brothers and sisters. How do you know the 27 books of the New Testament are inspired, inerrant and divinely authored through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost? Why these 27 books and not some others. There were 23 "gospels" that were written. Why and who picked the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? Mark and Luke were not apostles. Can any of you offer a definitive answer to this question? How do you know that the collection of books called the Bible are the correct books that should be called Scripture?

Denominations came into existence because people decided to listen their own evil hearts instead of obeying the word of God: 1 Corinthians 1:10 King James Version (KJV) 10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

This division itself goes against what Christianity is about.

I would argue that the idea that the Bible has no errors is preposterous. The authority which chose which books were included in the Bible was a worldly authority, not a Godly one. Render unto Caesar, that which is Caesar's, and render unto God that which is God's. If you render unto Caesar, that which is God's, you are making a grave error. I think this is idea is a reaction to the problem that many denominations have no claim to priesthood authority or revelation. The Pharisees in Jesus day preferred dead prophets to living ones. They wanted to use the words in books of Moses to reject Jesus. I'm guessing the claim that the bible is perfect has the same spirit. It is a rejection for the need for continuing revelation or prophets. Pastors or church leaders of various sects prefer to only listen to dead prophets whose words are subject to their own interpretation. It is much more demanding to get the answers from God than to affirm guesses that suit one's own biases. I do not reject the Bible at all. However, the idea that it is perfect does not stand to reason or history at all. The Bible is of Great value. However there are ample examples of new translations that change meaning. You think translation errors alone would not introduce mistakes in understanding or doctrine? I do not believe God would remove our free agency to protect us from the consequences of choices that left translation errors where they are. Translation mistakes happen now and I believe they clearly happened in the past. It is hubris of man that claims that thru our limited intellect or perspective we can be sure of the true meaning when there is a lack of clarity or contradiction in interpretation. You need clarification from on high.

But which one is right?

Different denominations can be broke down into 2 main categories. Saved by works. (catholic and off shoots of it). Saved By Grace. (baptist, assembly of God, ect). problem you run into now is that they both have watered down things so much that it has become a "g"od of love. Instead a "G"od who loves us enough to send Christ to die on the Cross to save us. Expecting us to REPENT and turn from our sins He forgives us of. Now they do not want to offend people so they say their god accepts everyone and do not bring up anything about changing your sinful lifestyles.

The church is within u & your personal relationship with Jesus. You're body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Not a church or denomination. Churches are mostly of the world.

Denominations are in fact divisions in the Church. In the 17th chapter in the Gospel of John, it was the prayer of Jesus that His followers would have unity. Unity is anything but what the Church is today. If we were honest and wanted to learn from our mistakes, we would find that denominations are the result of church members not following God's instruction for the New Testament Church. For example; In the first chapter in the Book of Titus and the 3rd chapter in the Book of 1Timothy, God gives His followers instructions for choosing a leader to oversee their church. I have yet to find a church that treats these commands as authoritative! Churches today may say they believe the Bible but are actually built upon the personality of the pastor. The truth is, today's Christians are led to believe that because we are saved by grace, God does not expect us to obey Him. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice." If this is true, I am afraid most Christians are not Christ's sheep? Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Catholicism is not a denomination. It is the origination. The fact that the hatred is there, when the RCC spread the gospel throughout the west and farther is mind boggling. Even if you dont agree with Rome, you have to accept and respect its ability to spread the Gospel to even people who dont agree with their teaching.

This video says the Bible is the sole authority of truth... scripture says the church is the pillar and foundation of truth... Who had the authority to say which books belong in the Bible and which ones don’t?? Who came up with the doctrine on the Trinity?? Jesus gave Peter the authority. He never told the apostles to write a New Testament. He said “teach” and entrust want I have taught to faithful men who will go out teach... sounds like the apostolic succession in the Catholic Church! Did the Holy Spirit abandon the Church fir the first 1500 years?? If the Catholic Church was not the true church, did the gates of hell prevail?

The true church is the individual believers in.

Top down view of Christianity: 1. God is creator and sustainer of everything. Busy for millennia years without beginning or end. He created intelligent beings to populate heaven (where God calls home) and other worlds. Emotional beings capable of love, and high mental and moral capacity, all with the ability to think things through to arrive at their own opinions. The power of choice. 2. The highest angel, Lucifer, the most beautiful, and regarded by all, closest to God except His own Son, Jesus. Only Jesus was closer to God than Lucifer. But Lucifer attributed his own perfection to himself instead of correctly attributing all to God. He foresaw a better existence for all the angels than the narrow views that God designed for them, and won 1/3 of them to his side. God put His foot down and all were given a chance to change sides. Once sufficient time had passed, those who chose rebellion were no longer given free rein of the universe, but were expelled to earth. 3. Planet earth with life on it is a speed bump on the road from and to eternity. Adam and Eve were created with a built in moral guide when created in the image of God. They were warned about the danger that existed when getting too close to a certain tree. Satan was only permitted to tempt them when near that tree. But over time, they relaxed their thoughts on the matter, and Eve roamed over near that tree where a smallish and beautiful winged dragon sat in this tree and starting talking to Eve which piqued her imagination. She let her guard down to the point she was deceived into believing God had lied to her and was withholding what was in her best interest. So in one single act, she left her allegiance to her creator and worshiped the beast, but eating forbidden fruit. Power of choice in action. 4. The wages of sin is death. Jesus came to this world as a man and died in our place to pay the price of sin so we could have the opportunity to live forever. Although salvation is a free gift, we must still qualify to receive it by close association with Christ and being born again to give up sin and hold tight to the Righteousness of Christ so that He May impute and impart His own righteousness to us. 5. A war has been waging on this planet ever since Adam and Eve sinned. Jesus won the right to save us, but Lucifer still claims us all as his as long as we neglect to love and obey God and hold onto even a single unconfessed, unrepented of, un forgiven sin. One sin held onto, cherished and loved more than God will cause our downfall, become double minded and eventually backslide all the way down into the mess we came from. 6. Once all cases have been decided either for or against God, Jesus returns for His people. Places Lucifer and his angels in confinement to this destroyed planet for 1000 years. Then they all return, every rebel resurrected, all see the Holy city, hundreds of miles square with all the saved inside of it. Then God the father reveals Himself and destructive fire from God rains on this planet, destroying everything on it for miles deep. The planet is recreated into a better place than it was originally created. This becomes God’s new home. Earth is now heaven. Where all the redeemed live with God the father and Jesus His Son forever. 7. The speed bump has been passed. All creation throughout the galaxy has a greater understanding of God’s character and love for His people as never before. Love for Him will only get stronger throughout the unending ages. The redeemed are now ambassadors of God, representing Him in their travels throughout the universe to peoples who never experienced what we have experienced. Stories to tell. More people to love. Always growing. Never ending. Grace grace, marvelous grace. 8. Satan (Lucifer the deceiver and destroyer) claims us all as his for our destruction. He has set up every conceivable lie and deception as traps for us. God allows this to happen, so that He can find a people, and get them ready for eternity. A people who will love Him forever. A people who can be trusted to never cause rebellion part 2. The book of Revelation talks about Babylon. Study Babylon from the old and New Testament and from history. You need a complete understanding of this old city and what Revelation says about it if you will avoid last day deceptions. Babylon is a melting pot of religions. Everything pagan. Everything Christian. We are commanded to “come out of Babylon” and not to partake of her sins. Babylon consists of every conceivable religion, denomination, sect, every range of idealism and thought that is not that which God specifies in the Bible, which is the Word of God. Every denomination interprets the Bible based on filters. They are based on what they want to believe and see only what they want to see. That is why there are so many denominations. You must study the Bible without all these filters and prejudices.

The Messiah taught his followers to follow the laws of God. I care little to understand the differences between doctrines and theologies that dont hold to the foundational teachings of the Messiah.

Denominations are the result of men who do not hold under true leadership! They are those who always has a new word or psalm! I have a question maybe my comprehension of the Bible is incorrect but when I read the bible it said when people spoke in tongues that meant that they "spoke in other languages" not the weird noises I hear in church and nobody has any idea what they're saying but there should be someone to interpret what was spoken in "Tongues", I remember reading that when a person speaks in tongues there should be an interpreter to reveal what was spoken in "tongues" Yours truly Confused.

This guy is doing a disservice to Christians by sugar coating the true reasons why there are so many divisions in Protestantism. It’s because everyone wants to interpret the Bible to fit their individual beliefs. Ask yourself this, did Jesus establish a church that allows people to interpret scripture in so many different ways? This guy mentioned that the early Church was this way and he is right, but it does not mean that it was accepted. Just look at all the letters in scripture that were sent to churches who were not following Jesus’ teachings. Read the early Church fathers to see how Protestantism in no way resembled the Church Jesus founded. Also, he made it seem like all these differences are not a big deal which is very dangerous to say. Especially when our salvation is at stake. Investigate those differences and ask yourself if these differences can jeopardize ones salvation. Quick example, one church believes gay marriage is okay and others don’t. Another, one church believes “once saved always saved” and another doesn’t.

It’s about decency, not about being right or being saved from hell. Hell is you being lost in wickedness and darkness. Heaven is faith and positivity. If there’s a promised land after this earth, so be it. If you have a good heart and treat people with general decency and respect, you will get there. A lot of people in churches are either cult minded weirdos, or actual community oriented loving understanding people. You taking a script and religion so tyrannically is not going to ensure YOU go to heaven. That’s the drive some people have. It comes from FEAR. Judging others won’t do it, converting others won’t do it, repenting 5 times a week won’t do it. You’re just a person obsessed with your fear of not “being saved”. God at its core, is love and understanding towards us who are limited in our understanding and love. He also loves and understands all the animals, plants, and elements on this planet. Life is not just about humans, that’s just your imperfect ego in action. The Bible teaches wisdom and love, people teach fear and division.

This is my story. I was raised in my mom's new age church that is unitarian and believes in all paths lead to God. They quote Jesus but don't put full faith in them. I became atheist in college but in 2012 I started believing. This photo of me is from around 2011. It is 2020 now and I was baptized Baptist this summer. I was baptized Catholic in 2016 and the enemy has been after me for a long time. I think it has to do with family blood lines. Apostles are directly chosen by God to appoint Elders of a church city locality, and in turn those Elders approve of the Elders of each individual meeting place. To my knowledge of the ways of doing it, none mentioned in this video do it this way.

There is no such thing as a Christian denomination. In the one true Christian church, there are no divisions. As Paul said: "I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose." (1 Cor. 1:10)

If you need a template for how the Christian church should function, it can be found in the book of Acts. It's mankind that has decided to cherry pick from the bible and form his own denominations.

If you can read you don’t need someone to reveal anything in any so-called holy book. Read it yourself. The process of revealing holy scripture to others was denounced by such intellects as Thomas Jefferson because of the likelihood that they have ulterior motives for what they might tell you. I've learned that I can follow the Lord Jesus Christ or a denomination but not both. We can pretend that we followers of Christ do not belong to each other as part of the one body or we can accept and try to live in that truth. The practice that you can only gather with those who you agree with is the opposite of John 17, Romans 14, and Romans 15:7. Our Lord may direct you to meet with believers in a certain denomination, but Jesus never surrenders his Lordship to hired hands. Don't limit yourself to meeting with other believers who you agree with. Reach out to several small groups of differing backgrounds and practice being with your family.

The early Church herself, gives us the order of authority: "It is incumbent to obey the presbyters who are in the Church-those who, as I have shown, possess the succession from the apostles; those who, together with the succession of the episcopate, have received the infallible charism of truth, according to the good pleasure of the Father.
