This is an interesting take on the prophets. Its new to me as a Torah observant jew to hear such a very different take on our tradition. As per the governmental structure of ancient Yisra'el There was a large Judaical body and system layed out in the Torah that ran much of the societies affairs. It wasn't just a Monarchy or priestly ruling class.

Nathan when he confronts David was sent by God. And Nathan did not know everything about why he was sent by God. As Nathan was telling the story to David. It came to him as he was speaking to David. Not before. When David gets angry and says thst man must pay is whem God reveals it is about David. Read it carefully. I have given 1 prophecy in my life. In the small church . only 20 people. But God gave me a few words . and nothing else. So i was able to speak. And as i spoke God would give me a word as i spoke. Only about a sentance long. Again read anout Nathan and David. See how God leads Nathan.

One thought: There were female prophets. Therefore, the prophet is God's man or woman...

Sandra, there is a thought going around that Jonah was a false prophet, becasue he did not speak the whole message God gave to Jonah to say to the Nineveh. What say you?

So the apostle John was a prophet of God just like Ezekiel who was caught up to the court of God in heaven (ref. Revelations) and heard the message of God.

does the Church need a prophet today? and why? we do have the Bible.

Canonical prophets are the only true trustworthy prophets and still work today through there words. Any non-canonical prophet isn't as reliable. A possibility yes but with risks. The word however is always solid and true.

It is an interesting post but not accurate. The ruling of the people was complex, not just a king (by the way God warned about having a king instead of judges in Israel). The priests had to do a lot with the rules and regulations. The prophets were not always feared. Some were even murdered... Zechariah was stoned in the porch of the Temple by order of King Joash, because the Prophet had denounced the people for their unfaithfulness (2 Chrn 24:20-22), Isaiah the prophet was killed by being sawn in two. Hebrews 11:37. In my humble opinion, a Prophet yes hears the voice of God, but has to be aligned with the Torah. And also, if the Prophet gives a futuristic prophecy, it has to happen otherwise, the Bible tells us it is a false prophet, not to fear him. I true prophet will always point to the laws and keeping His precepts.
