Is a former evangelical, one of the things that really helped me in this area was understanding that when the apostles were before the Sanhedrin in acts 5:32, their claim that the Holy Spirit now rested on them, was them receiving the authority as judges over Israel, and the authorized Sanhedrin. The Episcopate is the Sanhedrin. we have it. their role was always recognized as the guardians of the Taurus/scriptures, and that continues to this day in the orthodox church.

I really appreciated this video and that bishop Irenei distinguished between two elements or factors in apostolic succession. There is the “chain of unbroken transmission” or “this lineage of succession” that can be compared to provenance in art collection; and then there is the content of the apostles’ teaching, the artwork itself. I am a Protestant because I believe all Christians and churches must be reformed and corrected according to the teaching that came from Christ, through the apostles. I pray that all my Orthodox friends would strive for this as well.

Christ God did not come to establish Christianity, He came to establish his church not churches. There is one holy catholic apostolic church, that is the holy othodox Church. Othodox is derived from the Greek word orthos which means straight and true, the apostles apostles used this word to describe the church of our Lord and saviour Jesus christ ,for me as a former protestant it is not possible to refute this immutable fast.thanks be to God for our Bishop ireani, from Belfast. Belfast.

@@user-bg4bc9qr1i AMEN..AMEN..AMEN. That is exactly what the Orthodox Church is. My heart feels peace when be speaks. All the comments, videos, discussions that try to confuse things do not bring peace. That does not mean we don't know about such things, but we have made our choice. And i want to be in a church with men such as Bishop Irinei..where i believe deeply that the gentle fullness of the Faith exists. Thank you. Beautifully said. ☦💝📿💝☦💝📿💝☦

Father Bless? I have a question about our Coptic and Oriental Orthodox Faithful. They are still Apostolic but we still find ourselves in strained relations with them. How do we explain this with the understanding of Apostolic Succession in mind? I believe they both trace their roots back to St Mark and St Thomas. Would this issue be something different than the claims of Apostolic Succession?

“And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.” ****Revelation 21:14**** • Peter was no different than the others. We can see here in ****Revelations 21:14**** that Peter was still an apostle, not a pope. John saw a vision of the New Jerusalem, so if Peter was a pope, John would have said I saw the foundation of the city walls in layers of 11 apostles and the one pope. ------------------ - Eamon Duffy, an Irish historian, said, “There is, therefore, nothing directly approaching a papal theory in the pages of the New Testament,” and “from all indications, there was no single bishop of Rome for almost a century after the deaths of the apostles”. The Catholic National, a Catholic organ published this quote in July 1895. - Eamon Duffy was a Catholic Historian and he basically refutes that *Matthew 16:18* alludes to or supports papal authority. He said it without any confusion that the New Testament scriptures do not support the papacy. Therefore Peter was not singled out. When Christ said, “upon this Rock, I build my church”…. to say that he was proclaiming a papacy through a lineage of Peter is speculation. - If that were true, there would be other scriptures to cross-reference the theory of Pontification. Paul would have had to check in with Peter if Peter was the Pope. Instead, Paul went to see Ananias to receive his sight. - In ****Galatians 2:11-21**** we can see Paul putting Peter in check for treating the Gentiles differently based upon their state of circumcision and Peter’s fear of criticism. - If ****Matthew 16:18**** was Peter’s proclamation of pontification, that leaves a huge issue. The biggest problem of all is that if Peter is the rock, then the scripture wouldn’t say that Christ is the rock. That’s a contradiction. We can’t build our faith on contradictions. The Rock is spiritual, not earthly. ****1 Corinthians 10:4**** - and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. ------------------ ****Matthew 16:18**** The Catholic Church says that tradition holds that Peter is the first pope and the rock, and that this scripture is proclaiming the Papacy. ****1 Corinthians 3:11**** / ****1 Corinthians 10:4**** The word of God says that Christ is the spiritual Rock. A Rock for the wise builder. ------------------ - I’m choosing to go with the Word of God, not the traditions of men. There is no evidence that Peter ever even went to Rome. Christ is the Rock, Peter is a stone, and we are all stones. ****1 Peter 2:4-8****

apostles were special, appointed by Christ. when the last one died there were no more. church leadership is elected by local members per the bible, not denominational hierarchies.

You can’t say “as per the Bible” and pull baseless statements out of thin air and present them as fact. It is literally mentioned in the New Testament that the Apostles appointed (read: ordained through the laying on of hands) leaders in the churches they established who did the same to their successors. This is a well established phenomenon both in Scripture and the earliest Christian writings (read the Apostolic Fathers from the first and second centuries).

I've been trying to become orthodox. I love reading and hearing about the fathers. The orthodox style of prayer has improved my prayer life dramatically but here's the thing.... where I live there is very few orthodox churches. The orthodox missionary movement is pathetic to say the least. I've been to multiple churches and I can't even get a priest to acknowledge my presence. Even if the church isn't that big. I talk to orthodox Christians who know virtually nothing about the bible ( not judging just making an observation). It's difficult and I'm losing faith in the church.

Don't give up. I have no idea why you are having such trouble...but please don't give up. Perhaps you should contact a priest during the week. Or stay for coffee hour. It is worth the effort to keep trying. The Church evangelizes in a different way from prtnsts, most of the time. But it prays fervently that the Holy Spirit lead those, who will hear, to the Church. I agree as a frmr prtnst that the Orthodox often don't know scripture the way the prnsts do, but the services are filled with scripture and it is actually held more reverently by the Orthodox, (i said 'reverently') than by most prtnsts..i WAS one.. even went to a college with daily chapel and Bible classes, etc. We 'knew' the NT, especially, quite well, but i have an honor for the scriptures that i never had before. Anyway, God, bless..☦📿☦

@shaunmulligan8717 Fr. Josiahtrenham talked about how statistically over half of the orthodox Christians don't read there bible. And he also said the missionary movement is stagnant. I see it in real time. There's a Baptist church on every street. I'm surrounded by Roman catholic churches. I have to drive at a minimum 30 minutes to get to an orthodox church. I've been to many. And they don't seem to care about new comers very much. For being the ONE AND ONLY catholic and apostolic church, you think they would try harder to bring people in. Es

People will come guided by the Holy Spirit. Pushing for conversions is not the missionary method of the Church.

@LKRaider well when people come guided by the holy spirit. They don't get acknowledged. Alteast where I am. And I'm not expecting to just sit there and have someone talk to me. I mean I try to catch the priest after liturgy and he is no where to be found. There's a meal he prays for and he walks straight out.

As for what others are or aren't doing with what they have been given, and what you are doing with what you have been given: Romans 2:6-8 👉For he will render to every man according to his works: 👈 7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; 8 but for those who are factious and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness, there will be wrath and fury. As for feeling overlooked, how would you have responded if you were the woman in the account recorded in Matthew 15? 21 And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.” 23 👉But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.” 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 👈25 But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” 26 And he answered, “It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table.” 28 Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly. Don't give up my friend.
