KXAN's Yoojin Cho found out that great growth means different areas - not just downtown - will each have their own skyline.

It's time to looking for a rail service in Austin and maybe a commuter train from Austin to San Antonio to help the I-H 35.

The people in TXDOT have failed Texans. They’ve done nothing to promote and advocate passenger rail and executed those plans. Their new $4.6 downtown I-35 highway expansion gives not one nod to needed passenger rail right of way . Which is ridiculous. TXDOT is not a transportation agency they are a Highway builder ! And that’s why our cities are choking in traffic and highway fatalities. Legislation needs to be passed with our gasoline tax to start funding the TXDOT Rail Division. It’s been around since 2014 and only has $500,000 in the fund for passenger rail projects in Texas. Which is pennies compared to the trillion dollars in highway projects around the state with not one mile of passenger rail in their designs. Texans should have a voice of what TXDOT spends money on. But we don’t because all their projects get pushed through. Something needs to be done. Gov Abbott appoints the 5 member board of TXDOT. And none of them have backgrounds in Transportation. Go figure. Their backgrounds are petrochemical, real estate, and business.

Streetcars/subways and skyscrapers are signs of progress! Glad to see Austin moving boldly towards all of these things! Austin really is the boomtown of tomorrow, TODAY!!!
@HTV-2_Hypersonic_Glide_Vehicle
With office buildings being built next to the highway, don't count on many trains to exist.

By 2040 San Antonio/Austin will have over 8 million people and will become one huge metro area. Austin will be San Antonio's largest suburb. lol jk.

Do you think San Antonio and Austin should have some type of Commuter Rail between the two cities to help the I-H 35 highway?
@blankerism4189
@blankerism4189 2 года назад
@@chrisgiles8005 they should seriously consider it. if anything it should of begun in 2000 ahead of the population boom that is taking place between the city cities.

No. Highways are bad for environment and congestion. They should build public transport, high rises and bike friendly streets.

If anything, highways should circle around a city & not cut it in half. The congestion for locals is always a problem with inner city hwys.
