@@JJJ_JJ1lmao. Agreed! And they should make the lanes wider. I just bought a new oversized pickup and it barely fits in the lanes today.

There's really nothing we can do about this from what I understand. TXDOT can do whatever they want and we can complain all we want but it is still their decision. You want to take cars off the road? Build a train from the airport to downtown, make lanes that pass through Austin with no exits till after Oltorf, and lastly tell Californians it's cheaper in Montana.

Why not a light rail, tram, or bus lane?

TXDoT doesn’t permit anything more than 5% alternatives to vehicular traffic

There has been a proposal that has been off and on for a while for light rail. It more of a city problem.

I’m all for expansion but HOV lanes don’t take vehicles out out of the streets. Additional to a better highway, we need a robust and complete mass transit system.

Massive, cost prohibitive tolls are probably the only thing that would stop Americans from driving. Let’s be honest. We’d need to essentially tax (solo) driving out of existence. Obviously in conjunction with robust public alternatives.

@@JJJ_JJ1 We don't live in Europe J. From Central Texas it takes 5 hours to get out of Texas if you drive to the nearest state. There is ZERO interest in building any kind of infrastructure in the U.S. to support your idea. Let alone enough to be able have any serious reduction of vehicles on the road. You're idea is only feasible if you live in a fantasy land.

@@JJJ_JJ1 if there are no public transit, and you tax heavily for solo driver, some them will just pay

Austin would have light rails lines but you would need to pass it with the city which has been off and on for 14 years now.

90% of us in a car alone 80% of the time - solution, let's make a "special" lane they can't use. clueless.

That heat dome is for real people, Austin is turning into a desert, need to redo the building infrastructures to bring in fresh air and humidity

The biggest problem with any I-35 expansion is it doesn't address the main problem causing congestion to begin with. You put more cars on more lanes, but if you can't get those cars getting off the interstate they they are just going to back up the off ramps and traffic is still going to come to a halt. This does nothing to address the issue of poor traffic flow on the frontage roads downtown.

As it is, I-35 is going to need to be updated regardless, as the downtown portion was built decades ago and has worn down. It's more than run its course. Putting the entire thing under ground level from Cesar Chavez to Airport Blvd just makes the most sense. The feeders can be above ground and you could do a deck park between downtown and points east, and everybody will be happy. TXDOT will find a way to make it work. You just can't simply cancel the interstate. The traffic is already here in Austin, and it's not going to go away.

Txdot could have just brought toll 130 and made I 35 bypass to divert traffic from downtown. Adding more lanes downtown is not going to solve the traffic problem if they have both local and out of town traffic bottleneck down the same highway
@jaylenjackson2403
@jaylenjackson2403 6 месяцев назад
The only thing about 130 is - it’s kinda out of the way.. instead of curving in back towards I35 near Creedmoor and connecting south of Kyle, it takes you farther east - out to I10 near Seguin. This plus the tolls make it kind of unpopular among drivers, and they take I35 instead. I wish SH130 would’ve been built connecting back to I35 via SH71 or via the new connector that I described earlier.

Another waste of money, in the Car first people last state of Texas. Remember, roads originally belonged to the people. Saudi Arabia must be giving them all this money via oil for all these boondoggle road projects. Research induced demand
