@@42mynameis77 everywhere has plants and species that are not native to or originally from. Some are beneficial, some are not. You use items every day that are not from where you live, but are there. Some were brought, some hitched a ride. There’s not a place on earth that’s not been affected. Do you yourself not use products that aren’t native from where you live? Does where you live have any similarities of what it was a thousand years ago or even 50 years ago? Definitely it’s not. You wish to prosper, but you feel that you can deny others to do so. Correct? This is exactly why countries set land aside to be protected, but everything cannot be protected. It’s life when there’s too many people fighting for too little space.

This is meaningless twaddle. First of all, even should someone manage to patent a plant, breed or any genetic resource, which are all public domain by default - patents last only 20 years. After that anything patented is public domain. Free to use by anyone. Patents exist to protect original research and invention - but also to prevent monopolies. Second, it is clear that the treaty protects nothing. It only patronizes indigenous peoples by assuring them that should some patent come from their "traditional resources and knowledge" - that must be declared in the patent. There's zero mention of compensation, partnership or whatever. Thirdly, should there be some kind of compensation for a patent - once the patent runs out so does the compensation. Twaddle. Also fluff.
The native ppls have discovered the potential of these plants through trial and error, just as scientists do. Now Europeans want to financially benefit from that knowledge, This is why non-yt ppls need to be careful who they tell about their discoveries. Ibogaine, tea tree oil, DMT, etc... we now see how Europeans seek to profit from ancient knowledge. AND it is not true that patents and copyrights end after 20 years. Disney has owned their copyrights for way longer AND they added more time on to the copyright.
This has been a huge problem since the late 1980-ties! The Costa Rican government was very on about that at that time. One of the key figures in this process was Prof Dan Janzen who put a lot of work into this at that time. I was with him at that time and reported on the challenge. It is absolutely not only about indigenous peoples' resources but also the protection of local, tropical plants from being taken and "patented" by US companies! It is a disgraceful exploitation of native people by the USA!

The indigenous people deserve to get compensated for things like chocolate, corn, bubblegum, rubber, rubber balls these are only a few things that have made countries like the United States and others very wealthy and zero recognition and monetary compensation have gone to indigenous communities this is so unfair!

Will this prevent man made mutated plants cross pollinating with crops from existing species. They infect our food chain becoming dominant and because the new mutants carry patented genes they accuse the innocent farmers of patent infringement
Transparency is key. Without transparency a society is subject to manipulation and downright deceit. An individual humans subconscious works in the same way. A person's waking consciousness is subjected to an unknown but that unknown is part of the consciousness of that person in the same way a shell company hides accountability and motivations. Waking up is the same individually or collectively.
Let's not forget the corporations that make money out of tobacco, cigars, kayaks, smoking pipes that are sold all over the world. Indigenous people gave the world the concept of zero where many mathematical formulas were developed for modern inventions
