Bushido means so much to me regardless of what others say / claim. Antony gets to the truth of the Samurai and I am grateful for him. No one is truly exposing the truth like Antony.
@@AntonyCummins Other than Nat Ryu books, it is one of the major books that changed my view of the samurai from the mainstream and bad view to a more proper and accurate. another is Yamamoto Kansuke's writings on martial arts and the sword ( which proves the katana functioned as a medium range side arm after your enemy surpasses the bow or musket and surpasses the spear/yari and then if the katana is surpassed, you have unarmed and knife fighting, quite similar to knights if one compares this to Ringeck's text)

It's out there for sure considering the things I've been brought to belive. Got me thinking about morals if The belief system about morals in n general is bs or not.
I'm a bit dismayed, what about the 8 virtues? 1. Rectitude/Justice. 2. Courage. 3. Benevolence/Mercy. 4. Respect. 5. Honesty. 6. Honour. 7. Loyalty. 8. Self-Control. Is all that just a western misconception?
Didn't change things much to be honest. I would be very surprised to hear of any sort of....... ransoming in Japan. I would be extremely surprised, it goes against most of my understanding of Japan and its history. I thought that the point of bushido loosely translated to a code of combat, much as chivalry did, with something of a focus on service leading to advancement. Service and advancement of your lord, so that they may reward you for that service. This can be in prestige and prestige through recognition, title, rank, of being given command over others and land. What did catch my interest has been the allowances given in the scope of combat. There seems to the idea that as long as you do it to advance your lord and master, anything goes. Attack your enemy to progress your lord, however you attack them is up to you. Especially with the idea of ambushing with greater numbers. Seems a good way of removing in effect captains and generals from the opposing army. Get your buddies together and ambush them, take a head or two and offer the act, head, in service to your lord. I do wonder about the specifics of the head taking. That one could take a head at any time, only offering this...... graceful death prior to, to a samurai of equal or greater standing. Relatively speaking at least. I have to wonder if there always will be something we miss about this. Some concepts simply do not travel well across languages and time.
_Scyas_ the samurai would practice poetry and even make a poem when they are about to die or before a battle when they think they will die, so I don’t know who told you that but they are wrong. Also just so you know I am Japanese’s and I do come from a samurai clan
Kokutai no Hongi (国体の本義 - extreme loyalty to the emperor. Example of Bushido in real life = japan treacherously attacked Pearl Harbor. another = Nanking Massacre. another = Death March in Bataan , Philippines.
Not likely. Daitoua Sensou is more like Japan's nationalism against European imperialism. It's this nationalism not Bushido that bring Pearl Harbor Attack and Death March in Bataan. I doubt the existence of Nanking Massacre.
