I just like to add one thing about your video regarding elevated WBC in CML. The increased WBCs production in the bone marrow are actually defect cells, which couldn't function normally to fight Bacteria, fungi, or viruses and result in fever with opportunistic infection

I've had CML for over 27 years, did the Hydroxyurea for a few weeks and then Interferon for almost 10 years. Been on Gleevec (Imatinib) since December 2001 and am VERY grateful for that. But am upset that they say things about Imatinib like "as a rsult, you can actually cure cancer, cure CML". Imatinib puts us in a remission, but we are not cured.

beverly dawson I’ve been recently diagnosed with CML. My doctor said it’s possible that in 2 years I may be able to go off Gleevec if my numbers are low enough. He has had several patients that have done this with success. (They still need regular blood tests to make sure they stay in remission). Has you doctor mentioned this to you? I’m hoping that I’ll be able to do this some day...

90% are alive at 5 years? What does it mean? Why can't we expect to live normal like 60 years where the enzime is blocked by the medicine.

I don't get the part with the hepatomegaly and the BMR. More cells = more nutrients used/ more waste products produced = more detox needed = liver works more? Correct like this?

I have a question. My mother for years had an issue with her Leukocyte, they were always extremely elevate despite not having any infection. Her pcp refered her to a specialist. The BCR-ABL was perform on her and it came back positive. But we were never inform until aroung a month after she was also diagnose with breast cancer and her Oncologist suggested for us to go bak to the specialist because he needes to clarify on the BCR-ABL test. We went to back to this doctor and he said that often time the BCR-ABL test can be a false positive. Since we were already dialing with her breast cancer issue we left it along. But as time progress I notice that my mom had all the symtoms associate with CML. She was tested the second time for BCR-ABL and it came back negative. Can someone be BCR-ABL positive on the first test and negative on the second test? Please help. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.
@xDomglmao

Not a medic here but I'd say the only way of being indeed BCR-ABL+ and then to NOT be + anymore is that all the BCR-ABL+ cells got removed.

I was just diagnosed with CMML, what's the difference and treatment options?
@xDomglmao
@xDomglmao 5 лет назад
CML = usually involves neutrophils that go mad; CMML = involves monocytes that go mad. I can't tell you about the treatment options for CMML but for CML it's initially Imatinib and as last resort if one meets the criteria a BM transplant.

Why is CML considered cancer but polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia are not?? Thank you :)
@AnneScrubsFan
@AnneScrubsFan 8 лет назад
They are considered cancer as of now, because they found mutations in PV and ET as well (like JAK2 and CALR). That's why those two together with myelofibrosis are known as MPN: myeloproliferative neoplasms. Hope this helped :)

Wondering if you could clear something up: The previous video (on myeloproliferative disorders) states that the defect causing CML occurs after the myeloid stem cell phase. However this video states it's just after the pluripotent stem cell phase. Which is it? If it's after the pluripotent stem cell phase then what would make it different from polycythemia vera? Cheers
@Gjitra
@Gjitra 8 лет назад
+guyhi11 CML occurs after myeloid stem cell phase

But if the defect is at the cross you Made then lymphoid series should also get proliferated, shouldn’t they?
@ajiteshmishra472
@ajiteshmishra472 5 лет назад
MANAN VAID actually mutation occurs in pleuri potent hematopoietic stem cells destined to produce myeloid series See pleuri potent cell can produce 2 types of cell myeloid series and lymphoid series...
@ridwansalifu6987
@ridwansalifu6987 2 года назад
@@ajiteshmishra472 good answer. Even the name of the disease itself clarifies his question. The mutation is only affecting myeloid destined cells.
