Leukemia is the cancer of the white blood cells of the body, in which there is over production of defective white blood cells. These white blood cells (WBC's) are defective,not normal, hence are not capable of fighting infections which is their primary function in the body. The over produced defective white blood cells (WBC's) crowd out the othertypes of blood cells (RBC's, Platelets ), hence a patient with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia has lower than normal level of other blood cells (RBC'c, Platelets) and a high number of defective white blood cells (WBC's)
