Ships float on water due to the principle of buoyancy. When an object is placed in a fluid (like water), it displaces an amount of fluid equal to its own weight. If the weight of the water displaced is equal to or greater than the weight of the ship, the ship will float. This is achieved by designing ships to be less dense than water, making them buoyant. The shape of the hull also plays a crucial role in providing stability and preventing sinking.
A huge massive ship floats on water but same material ( Steel ) made up of iron sinks because at bottom of ship there is a huge empty space which is filled with air so it makes a huge ship to float on water instead of sinking .
Yes...air is added because it has a very low density which supports the ship. But then what happens to a canoe which does not have air chamber and does not sink. Volume and shape are the first import reason why ship floats.
There are three reasons for it. 1. The base of ship is wide. So, it will balance itself. 2. It's made of steel. But it's not only steel in there. A lot of stuff is in there having different densities. 3. It's salt water. So, the density is higher than normal. Hope it's right.🙂🙂🙂
Q: Why steel nail sink in water and honey and A steel large ship float in water? Answer: 1. Density: Steel nail: A small steel nail has a higher density than both water and honey. Density is defined as mass per unit volume (Density = mass/volume). Steel is denser than water, meaning that for its size, a steel nail has more mass compared to the amount of water it displaces. Since the nail cannot displace enough water or honey to support its weight, it sinks. Large steel ship: Although ships are made of steel, their overall density is much lower. This is because ships are designed with large, hollow compartments filled with air, which reduces their overall density compared to water. The average density of the entire ship (including the steel and the air inside it) is less than the density of water. As a result, the ship can displace enough water to support its weight and float. 2. Buoyancy: According to Archimedes' principle, an object will float if it displaces a volume of fluid (like water) equal to its own weight. The buoyant force pushing an object upward is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Nail: A steel nail displaces a very small volume of water or honey, which provides a buoyant force that is not enough to support the nail's weight. Ship: A large ship displaces a significant amount of water, and the upward buoyant force is enough to balance its weight, allowing it to float. SUMMARY: A steel nail sinks because it has a high density relative to the water or honey and does not displace enough fluid to float. A large steel ship floats because its overall density (including air-filled spaces) is less than that of water, and it displaces enough water to generate a buoyant force that supports its weight. "SIR IS THIS CORRECT"
I am process Chemist in a sugar plant from 20 years, during processing of juice, clear juice and cane juice mud separated due to density difference in Comercial scale...... This is just for me as a refresher course....
My village people are cane growers. Please do and share such experiment using cane juice,as its familiar and relatable to the learners locally. This will help unlock the subject, from known aspect to the unknown
Because the steel Ships Surface Area is more. More the surface area of the object (i.e, the steel ship).More the buoyant force experienced by the Ship. So, more the Surface area of the object = more the Buoyant force of an object..
To answer :- How Does A Ship float in water when a steel nail sinks? Answer :- A ship floats on water because it is designed to displace a large amount of water, creating buoyant force greater than its weight. It also has a "LARGER SURFACE AREA". That is why it Floats.. A steel nail sinks because it is denser than water, so the buoyant force is not enough to support its weight.
A massive steel ship floats in water based on the concept of Archimedes principle. The area of the steel ship in contact with water in much higher so the buoyancy of water is greater and that is why the massive steel ship floats instead of sinking like the steel nail.
@@ogonnaajagu6372 the base of the ship is hollow, you would understand if you have watched titanic, as since the hollow base the volume relatively increases than the mass hence to the formula of density = mass/ volume as volume increases density decreases than the sea water and it floats, however this is not much appropriate according to the higher studies, but it helps to understand density.
You make me understand Physics the most sir. Because of you, i passed my physics exam and I am so happy! Thank you so much sir for putting in the work and making videos like this for us ❤
Sir please explain about some laws sir like 1)archimedes Principal. 2)Pascal's law 3)Snell's law 4)bernouill's Principal. Sir you have extraordinary talent of teaching
The reason why ships float is because the relation of Density and Volume is opposite so if volume became bigger therefore the density will become lower and also that's why the ship bottom is almost empty to reduce mass and add more volume to reduce the density which allows it to float (correct me if I am wrong)
This is because volume of ship is large compared to other materials made up of iron , so as volume increases upward force also increases i.e buoyant force thus buoyance force helps the ship to float on water
The volume of the ship where touches the water is extremely high. If we take the exact same amount of water which is equal to the ship's sinking volume, it should be weight way more than the ship. That's why the ship floats on water. According to Archemedis :)
The volume of the base of the large ship is increased so that it can displace more water as the ship displaces water equal to its volume. The weight of water of the same volume is greater than the weight of ship of same volume. So there's create an up thrust force which causes the ship to sail
Hiiii sir Good morning I'm Sowmya from Bangalore karnataka I'm preparing for competitive exams Science is difficult subject for me specially physics Bcs I'm commerce background student But when I start to watch your videos Really it's miracle I'm understanding very easily infact In last week test I got good marks just because your quality teaching I'm very thankful to you sir and u r one of my favorite faculty ❤ Thanks a lot Keep teaching ❤
The reason is due to the large surface area covered by ship in water which provides maximum upthrust force and it is also important to notice that density is inversely proportional to volume therefore ship floats and steel nail sinks.
Its basically due to large surface area, since volume is associated with the size and shape so when mass is divided with a large number it will give a small value resulting in less density. Larger surface area or more volume means less density
An iron nail is a totally solid object while a ship is hollow from inside and contains air. So, the average density becomes less than water and the ship floats.
i have a question , people say when people add poison to your drink that have ice , the ice will sink , so does that mean the added poison will add more density to the ice and then make the ice sink?
The ship float at water because of the ship have empty space at the bottom of ship and at that place is have low density and that can hold tons of weight so the ship float at water 🌊🌊
Hi sir!I have been waiting for this opportunity to understand floatation and density from you. I love your video explanation. Thanks to you I can understand all the concepts and clear my doubts in a better way. The answer for your question: Though the ship is large and has greater material, it displaces a large amount of water due to which it floats. That is called buoyancy. The upward force is greater due to greate water displaced. That's why it doesn't sink.
The volume of ship is much. And volume of a body is anti proportional of density. The density of ship become less than water due to its large volume and that's why it floating on water
Thank you sir. If my school teachers were this good I would not hate studying this much. You are the best teacher sir. And also please try to make courses on class 11
The ship made of steel floats on water whereas an steel pin sinks in water...the reason is that when an ship is made, it is made with tiny pores which are then occupied by the air molecules and hence the ship becomes lighter and floats on water whereas an steel nail is not made up with holes and hence it is more heavier than water and the end it sinks in water.. Also the flotation of ships work on the principle of buoyant force "𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯 𝘶𝘱𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵, 𝘪𝘴 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘢𝘴 𝘉𝘜𝘖𝘠𝘈𝘕𝘛 𝘍𝘖𝘙𝘊𝘌" I hope this explanation is correct
