I think him being the classical chess world champion, with Magnus’ shadow looming large over him and all the media attention and community opinions, he’s struggling to deal with all of that. Not everyone is able to deal with all that pressure and negativity, I just hope that he finds a way and gets back to playing chess at the highest level.
Magnus is the greatest chess player but he has a nasty manipulative personality, he definitely expected people would still crown him as the WC despite all that and this would put a lot of pressure on the winner of the WCC, these things are just mind games to him.
Honestly the current Ding is unlikely to be able to defend the world championship title.... As Magnus has said... The championship match takes a lot more out of people than you realize... That ding hasn't recovered from it is proof of that. Hopefully he can fully recover and return to form though
@@feelcollins4358I don’t see what Magnus gains by trying to play mind games with Ding? I mean, he probably correctly to assumed he could have all the financial and personal benefits of his status as the GOAT without the pressure and exhaustion of defending his world title which is maybe a bit unfair. But I don’t see any reason for him to want to manipulate other players by giving up his title?
@@lukebbuff His mind games is not on ding personally but to the chess world, basically "yeah he's the champ but y'all know deep down I'm the best" Which he isn't wrong but he made it so no one else could get the chance to challenge that narrative by not participating in the WCC so the pressure is directed at the winner in the end, he will be known as one of the weaker WC in history because he didn't "face the best"
People criticizing Ding and calling him weakest world champion doesn't even realize how gifted a chess player he is. Even with all his health issues and mental problems he managed to clench the title against Nepo who himself is one of the best in the world. I really wish he gets rid of his issues and once again gives the world a glimpse of prime Ding whom even Magnus used to consider one of the best.
🤣 yea the evil knight chess pieces are sooooo traumatic that it triggers a disorder. I really can’t stand this new age“ everyone has a disorder.” He said he was depressed, take him at his word.
@@alexj835i mean I agree, everyone nowadays tries to label themselves with some mental illness to excuse their shortcomings... But Depression is just as much of a mental disorder as PTSD
Watching that Candidates cycle and the world championship I couldn't help but cheer for him. His bromance with Rapport, his family supporting him, his honesty when speaking, even if he loses the title, I want to see him go back to high level chess
Ding is like Australia in cricket. He'll be about alright in normal games without muxh weightage but pull out an absolute comeback performance in the title match. Imagine him not winning much the entire year but keeps on retaining the championship each year by outclassing opponents when it matters most. Would be so hilarious.
I as an Indian will obviously support Gukesh's victory but i truly hope that Ding recovers and gives as tough fight as possible. I dont wanna feel sadder for ding's loss than feel happy for Gukesh's win. Bounce back Ding, never forget you defied the odds in 2023, thats what champs do!!!
I believe that prime Ding can definitely take an inexperienced Gukesh, he took down Nepo after all and I rate Nepo higher than Gukesh in classical. Skill can only do so much when it comes to World Championship pressure, but Ding not being at his best will make the World Championship definitely more competitive. Also that press clip when he talks about depression was really sad :\
You know what crazy ding a super GM one of the best players in the world. He might go on to win 5 world title and lose so many tournaments in between but might (bad luck ) have a good showing when defending his title and go on a decade as world championship
@@blizyon30fps86 that’s your prediction. He says he will defend it. I trust his word lol. I just mean you don’t have much grounds to assume it’s a ‘good chance’, you don’t know him.
This is not the real Ding Liren's form I used to support during the 2022 Candidates and 2023 World Chess Championship, he is so solid player that time, he beat Hikaru flawlessly during the 2022 Candidates. I'm so proud of him winning, but after his loss on some of top chess tournaments, I found it worrying for Ding now he currently loss 54 Elo points in classical from his win in world championship. Also Gukesh is being an Assassin this 2024. Hope DIng Liren would come back.
I assume Ding's problem is that Magnus willingly gave up the WC title. Everyone still knows Magnus is the best player in the world by a large margin and we remember how good of an ambassador he is for chess and was when he was the WC. Ding knows he can never reach that level and he knows he is the world champion by name only. That troubles him and is a mental problem. As a world champion he is contantly compared to Magnus in every way and expected to perform, both playing and representing chess, like Magnus does and did as a world champion. Ding knows he can never do that or reach that level and that gets into his nerves.
I completely agree. I really hope Ding is able to bounce back and defend his title. But the priority, obviously, is that he recovers from his mental and physical problems. Even if he needs another break, as long as it has to be
I think it's really sad that Magnus never defended his title. I think ding was dealt a very horrible deal where if he lost he would have not be champion but by winning he would still be considered second. Very sad
Being second to Magnus isn’t sad at all. I don’t blame Magnus for not defending, that’s his choice and who wanted to watch Magnus toying with Nepo again.
I think it's great that he got the championship. I like ding a lot but I mean just the idea that some people will think he doesn't deserve it because he didn't face Magnus to get it is sad. Like he's clearly put in a lot of work but stupid people will still look down on him which can't be easy for him mentally
@@damian4590 That’s true. Add in his health problems hindering his ability to compete and people forget how formidable he was before the Championship when he was qualifying for the Candidates. I hope he can defend his title, it will be exciting to watch.
It felt like Ding didn't really want to win the world championship and finally retire but even he wasn't expecting to win. Now he has all this pressure and eyes on him when you can tell he seems to be someone who isn't some aggressive competitor
Best wishes for Ding to defend his title but if he thinks he wont be able to come close to defending his title he must consider withdrawing, it wont mean much either way rather it'll suck to serve World Champion title to Gukesh on a silver platter!
If you enjoy this type of content I would recommend you check out FlameIsLucky. He's made 2 chess documentaries so far and both of them are very well made.
@@thegorn Also makes me wonder if the CPP cares at all about their representation in chess like the Soviets used to. Not saying they'd threaten and force Ding to compete, but if the government (not just the CPP) asks you to do something.. you do it
He plan to take a sabbath and retire for good after world chess champion , but subconciously, he too focus on the game, he forgot his goals ,as if like once he reached Everest n come down alive, he is liable to hike the K2, signing the death cert, cos only best hiker is obliged to fullfill this goal or be mocked and rejected if it choose not to😂
Ding is walking very slowly and when he shakes hands you can see it is with a very weak grip. Could it be that Ding is suffering from Parkinson's disease?
The only person objectively better than ding is Magnus. Everyone claims they are better but lost championship spot to Gukesh. If Ding plays world championship with Gukesh, he’ll win easily!
Donger's "World Champion" title is completely hollow and meaningless after Magnus just gave it away. Not his fault, but meh... never liked the Donger anyway. To hell with him.
@@TheCheckmateCorner ok btw I absolutely loved your video about nepo vs ding i think i watched it like 4 or 5 times now. Can you make a video about hikaru or another world championship?
Ding is the greatest chess player of all time, and is the best chess player in the world... That is why he is WORLD Champion!. Magnus stands no chance against Ding. Ding was even so nice as to help Magnus regain his confidence by allowing him to win in Norway so that Ding could have better competition in the future because Chess has been so boring for him!.. Ding was even going to let Hikaru win too, but got annoyed that Hikaru talks so much, so he had to put him in his place... Ding's 7D Chess is incredible! Clearly the greatest of all time!
He's just isn't good (comparatively to other top guys) the only reason he even won world championship is just because mangus didn't wanted to defend his title
He may have been crowned, but he has never reigned. He is like a puppet king and the real ruler is Magnus and always has been. Ding isn't the best player in the world ... or 2nd .. or 3rd ... or 4th, 5th, or 6th. He has to be the worst world chess champion for a long time.
i don't think its worth caring about ding. i've seen this stuff before. once some australian cared about wei yi in a video back in 2014. that's like me caring about ivanchuk. who cares about these nobodies, so much more relevant might be their opening choice but thats the max. differen't story if they earn their relevancy at least
Ding is really the weakest ever to become a world champion in chess ding simply suck after all. And don’t give ding an excuses from all losses he made. Come on 🤦♂️
Saying that somebody who was able to reach the level of becoming a candidate for world champion, and even won the championship, "sucks" is a wild take lmao
But Ding Liren walking like a weary man in Goat tournament but he will return like Bruce Lee so he is afraid of facing any one like Hikaru or Carlson But now he is happy because tournament is in Singapore so by Singapore Chinese chess association but it's not that easy to win Gukesh because Gukesh is not trained by Russian stupid people but a Polish Gentle Man
