The palette of feelings in Nightwish's music is extremely diverse: optimism, energy, anger, innocence, melancholy, even sadness. From their repertoire, I recommend "Dead Boy's Poem" (live - Buenos Aires 2018) or "Procession" (official lyrics video - 2020) for sadness. What is happening to you? I think you feel like you are starting to become one of us.
Honestly, anything from Nightwish's Decades DVD in Buenos Aires is brilliant. "I Want My Tears Back" is a masterclass in audience engagement. "Dead Boy's Poem" is beautifully sad.
concur concur concur! I never manage 'dead boys poem' without a tear. And down the road poet and the pendulum once you've done your homework on WHY it's been written.
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody hey CosmicWolff, it's always great to see folks waking up to the Awe and wonder that is the "next level" music of NW, some heavy for you ? : NW is always best live, but this 1st song below has never & will never be played Live, it was written as an in your face towards the bands 1st singer's husband/manager : their heaviest song thus far: Nightwish - Master Passion Greed (Special Video) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bkib0dIziXk.html or Lyric version :ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wS7NrPNjACI.html Nightwish - 10th Man Down - Live In Buenos Aires 2018 - Decades Tour ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Px1YJ0EdNAI.html NIGHTWISH - Slaying The Dreamer - Live In Buenos Aires (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wA44tjaP5n0.html
A sad song that's not metal (although by a metal band)? After Forever - Eccentric: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ISU5TqGAfuw.html I picked this one because there is a certain connection to Nightwish.
Hi from the UK 👋 🇬🇧 division of the Nightwish army something you might like to check out floor jansens ( the vakyrie) friends band ( Simone simons) called epica it's another symphonic metal band but from Holland 🇳🇱 it's heavier than Nightwish Epica consign to oblivion live at the zenith Paris Also you might like this one called Ayreon Ayreon the day that the world breaks down the source 2017
Nightwish is just awesome.Guess u know that Floor is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer in Sabaton.Floor took Nightwish to a completely new level.I never thought i would say there could be a Nightwish without Tarja but yepp Floor is the one
Welcome to the Nightwish army (Dutch division)! Wishing you a great journey down the rabbit hole from Nightwish! When you're ready for it see...yours is an empty hope and the poet and the pendulum (but first read the background information and see the Wembley version).
Hallo and thank you for a great reaction. This is how we play music in Finland..😉 I have a very sade song for you. It's Lara Fabian from her concert "From Lara with love" The song is "Jesui's malade" it's in french. The song is a jawdropper in sadness and Lara Fabians performance is epic.Check that out. Hi from a finn in Sweden.👍😃
This song is Like a Coffee with Red Bull .... On Steroids 🤘❤🔥🤘. The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classically trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast . AND,...Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bullwhip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch. Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia/FloorFan !
Floor Jansen performing SHALLOW on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers 2019 often produces tears. Enjoying your Nightwish journey - I too listened to the same stuff for years and rediscovered Nightwish due to a RU-vid recommendation on a Megadeth reaction video. I had previously listened to their ONCE album as I enjoyed "Planet Hell" and "Wish I Had An Angel." 🇬🇧🤘🤘
i concur. Floor performing Shallow brought me to the edge of the rabbit hole. GHOST LOVE SCORE was my leap of faith and what a freaking awesome decision
Some older sad folk / rock songs, late 60s early 70s, Bobby Gentry "Ode to Billy Joe", Gordon Lightfoot "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", Janis Joplin "Me and Bobby McGee" , Janis Ian "At Seventeen" .
"The best Nightwish song is the one you're listening to" If it comes tu sad songs; The Poet and the Pendulum, Dead Boy's Poem and a Little-Known Song; The Crow, The Dove and the Owl
What you said at the end of this reaction was beautiful. Thank you for caring. For a sad Nightwish song featuring the bassist/second vocalist Marko Hietala, who you heard on this song, check out "Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red." live at Wembly Arena.
Nightwish was the second Finnish band I was introduced to (before Floor joined). I've actually been able to see Floor and Marko both live at a Raskasta Joulua show, and they are amazing. ❤ JP Leppäluoto is still my favourite Finnish singer, though (I recommended him last time I commented.) Also, I recommend Apocalyptica. They were the first Finnish band I ever heard, and they are incredible. They play metal with three cellos and a drum kit.
This is the reason Tuomas Holopainen the keyboardist is the writer of the music and is called the “Metal Mozart” the front lady is Floor Jansen aka the “Viking Queen”. Keep in mind when the Wackan, German festival pronounce W as V, at the start of this tour she was just a fill in singer! At this point she had only sang with the band for 10 months or so.
If you want sad songs, you MUST listen to some Swallow the Sun - try the tracks "Cathedral Walls" and "Heartstrings Shattering." Then you need to try Trees of Eternity - the tracks "A Million Tears" and "Broken Mirror" are great choices. This stuff is some absolutely emotionally crushing doom...you'll love it.
If you want emotional react to Eva Cassidy - over the rainbow. On the Nightwish side, please react to I want my tears back live from Buenos Aires (2019 I think), great interaction with the crowd, and you can see how much fun the band is having!!
Hey Cosmic, I too have only very recently discovered Nightwish, and it has become an obsession to watch their live shows and reactions to them. I love your reactions dude. This band is amazing, Tuomas is indeed the Metal Mozart, and Floor, what can I say that hasn't already been said! She's an artist who performs at a different level than I've ever seen or heard. You asked for sad songs....I saw that you have already done The Poet and the Pendulum, that would have been my pick. For me, the next saddest is probably Wings For Marie, parts 1 & 2 by Tool. I assume you know it? If not, and you choose to react to them, read the back story on that first so that you know what it's about. Thanks for your kind words and positivity! All peace and love to you and everyone here!
Ivan first thank you for stopping by and watching the video. Thnks for sharing man, also I really appreciate the kind words dude! I actually dont know Wings for Marie. I will check it out Keep being awesome dude!
Dude! Love seeing in you what has happened to me. They have some great heavy songs like "Yours is an Empty Hope" about social media trolls - Wembley 2015 live good vid, and Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, live official will do. They have sad ones, one in particular, but you need to know the backstory for it, Poet and the Pendulum. They also have happier songs like Alpenglow and Èlan. Inspiring ones like Endless Forms Most Beautiful and The Greatest Show on Earth. Enjoy the journey, dude. I'm adicted and am sure you will be too.
Same here. 14 months ago I'd somehow not heard of Nightwish or Floor 🤔😳. My introduction to them was via a friend recommending I try the "Poet and the Pendulum" live from Wembley 2015 so I did and was blown away and have been ever since. Phenomenal band. 🙏😊👍❤️
@thecosmicwolffreacts that one needs a bit of research and understanding the song's context. Read the open letter to Tarja, their first singer, and know the shitstorm that erupted when she was fired. You talk about mental health. This song describes Tuomas' (bands keyboardist and prime composer) mental health and is effectively a suicide in a song. It is one of the best rock compositions I've ever heard and live, with Floor singing, it has HUGE emotional impact on the listener.
Not enough people listen to "master passion greed", probably because there are no live recordings of it. But it is the perfect example of how heavy Nightwish can be. It's definitely goes hard
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody A favourite of mine is Dead Boy's Poem, Live in Buenos Aires. The first time I heard it I cried. I also love Everdream if I want to enjoy some outstanding vocals from Marko and Floor
I like how u put “ex metal elitist”, I’m right there with ya. I had that kind of gatekeeper mentality for an embarrassingly long time. And just like u, I’ve heard the name Nightwish, but never checked em out til now, and I’m glad I did🤘
Tip of the iceberg..... hang-on tight and enjoy the ride! G3 -D6 gliss AND back here.... there is megatons and megawatts more - growls, squeals, giggles, the face of a "reaper" from Blade II........ Sad? "The Poet & The Pendulum" - only WHEN you are READY!... and Marko and the guys have done Megadeth and Black Sabbath covers years back too! Young Tuomas was inspired when he attended a Metallica concert in the US.
Welcome to NW.. Choose from General Gabriel's List what ever you want.. all is good. "Poet and Pend." my to early but "Dead Boys Poem" is a good next choice. Greetings from NW-Army-Germany and SabatonFan ❤🔥
I just rediscovered them as well, feel like "how did I miss this?!?" Been absolutely obsessed for about a month and seen 100s of reactions, full concerts multiple times and listen to them every single day. New subscriber here, seeing your journey is like experiencing them anew again 😁
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody It's crazy good, and you have oh so much left to discover, every song is different! Really looking forward to following your journey 😁
Greetings from Nightwish Army, Palm Springs, CA! You are in luck! Nightwish have a huge back catalog...and expect that every song will be different, and you will like all of their styles...bc they are world-class musicians! You can't go wrong with the entire Wacken (pron: VAW-Kehn it's in Germany) 2013 show... but also, look in comments from your 1st Nightwish reaction and find one from Gabriel Bardac who will direct you to a list of links to best performances! Dive in...we'll come along!
Great reaction, Cosmic Wolff man! If you liked this one (which you clearly did!) you've gotta do Ghost River and Song Of Myself next from the same Wacken 2013 concert. They'll rock your socks off!
For me, this sing captures that non-verbalized Ripping of The Soul that happens when you've been betrayed in a relationship. Floor and Marko both read off a list of How You Effin Screwed Me Over (in their individual lines), then the two sides join to sing "Romanticide, Till Love Do We Part" They read off the reasons WHY they feel they've got to split apart. The Jukka starts the double-kick-march into hell... to me it's like listening to the ritual building of a funeral pyre for the relationship. The Audience (US) kick in with the bloodlust chant, edging the couple to rip it up as the drums march them onward to the final act. That Act... the slow-building crescendo of a single emotion, rising up and up to the to a giant full-voiced F.U. - and they don't even end it in unison anymore. That 'joining of the spirits' is ripped apart for good. Toss in a little Pyro-Love-Roast at the end and the crowd gets to celebrate one more flawed relationship tossed on the shitter. I coulda used this song a couple times, to cauterize the bleeding bits after getting betrayed or just blatantly lied to. Nightwish : Just what the doctor ordered. - Blind Doc Jones : Nightwish Medical Tent; Dentist, Gut-puncher, Heartfelt Eye-Roller, and Semi-Pro Breakup Vulture. - - seems like I only find the damaged bits that get left over after two of these Wolverines go at it.
Funny thing, I was not an "elitist" as you call it, but I began my metal journey with Sepultura, Manowar, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Iron Maiden, followed by Children of Bodom, In Flames and Archenemy. So when I first listened to Nightwish first when they had their first vocalist, It felt "meh", I totally do not dig Tarja opera singins, not my cup of tea. But boy oh boy, when I stumbled upon this very song and saw Floor as a new Nightwish frontman... This woman is pure gold and through her I kinda "rediscovered" nightwish. Still not my FAVORITE genre of metal, that will always be melodeath, but I am too old to pass by a fucking epic song and amazing vocals.
Welcome to the Nightwish Army! Such an incredible rabbit hole to go down. Enough other people here will offer you song suggestions for them, so I'll answer your question about sad songs. I'm a metal head, but not to the exclusion of other genres. One song that I can't even bring myself to listen to anymore is "Goodbye My Lover" by James Blunt. I discovered that song shortly after the most hurtful breakup of my life and it makes me sob like a little baby. In the same mold as "breakup songs", I would recommend both "The Death of Passion" and "Dreaming Neon Black" by Nevermore. Neither are "sad" per se, but both have lyrics that just hit me hard. The Death of Passion is an aggressive banger that you can just get mad with while punching a punching bag or pillow. Dreaming Neon Black is more "contemplative" about the loss, and actually very much fits the situation I was in. If you do that one, pull up the lyrics online because there's a "first verse" that sets the stage though it isn't sung in the song.
Nightwish are a different beast to the one that you heard back in the day. If you explore their more recent stuff you will be amazed. If you want a sad and poignant song then “Dead Boys Poem” live from Buenos Aires will break your heart but fill you with joy from the performance. If on the other hand you want a banger: “Tribal” live from Masters of Rock 2022 or Hellfest 2022. If you’re on the Nightwish train I’ll be there to keep you company. Greetings from the UK.
This one is a taste of metal Nightwish. Nightwish music runs the gamut. For a sad Nightwish song I would suggest "Dead Boy's Poem" live from Buenos Aires 2018. The ultimate sad song from Nightwish is of course "The Poet and the Pendulum". Both songs may require some understanding of the song concept to fully experience the emotional impact. Tuomas uses copious poetical lyrical metaphors and imagery to express his messages. many of them need to be understood from his personal perspective such as his love of nature and all things involving water. Such as oceans, rivers, and rain imagery. He also loves to use the phrase "dead boy" referring to himself or just the general concept of lost innocence or emotional hardening of the heart. Regarding PNP, I would suggest you learn a little about the concept and back story of the song before experiencing it live a Wembley Arena 2015. It is quite an unusual and unique composition for any metal band to conceive, much less perform live. In essence it involves the aftermath of parting with their original and beloved 1st vocalist, Tarja. Followed by the criticism and negativity aimed at Tuomas by the media and fans which led to severe depression, mental anguish, and suicidal contemplation. Dead Boy's Poem is based on a hypothetical situation posed by Tuomas. When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..." Greetings and Love from Köln/Cologne, Germany. Great reaction video, buddy....okidok, i also love me some sad songs....even its not good for me and my part-time depressions..here a few of of my favorites..."Sad Lisa" from Cat Stevens..."If it be your will" from Leonard Cohen. And "While your lips are still red" from Nightwish (but the live version from Wembley). And from my german mates 'Rammstein" the song "Ohne Dich".(officell video). Have a peaceful day, my friend... Stay Safe & Take Care ❤
This is my first video ive seen of yours and youre such a kind and humble person i think you deserve a sub! Im a big fan of nightwish and thats what brung me here and im actually glad the algorithm chose this video lol keep it up bud! 😎😎👌
“I need more” .. yes!.. that is a common respons to nightwish 😝🤣🤘😇 .. romanticide is my favourite .. for emotional song .. try Aurora (not metal) from Norway and a fairy (She must be) .. “ runaway “, “through the eyes of a child@ or “it happens quite “ perhaps ( but go for live versions).. tears but not for sadness rather a beautiful amazing story : Sabato and there animated version of “ no bullets fly” ( our modern metal war bards .. singing of war related history and acts of individual heroism and sacrifice .. lest we foregett.. they have their own history channel too) .. oh and before anyone else says it .. Floor the singer in nightwish is married to Hannes the drummer in this band ☀️
If you want another heavy Nightwish banger, 7 Days to the Wolves Wacken 2013, or from Human || Nature Tribal If you want to see a lighter Nightwish try: How's the Heart Acoustic If you want pure beauty Human || Nature: Procession, Pan, Shoemaker
This is another hard song by nightwish !! play it Floor is fantastic in this both singing and how badass she is. Nightwish - Yours Is An Empty Hope.Vehicle Of Spirit Live at Wembley (2015) Don't play! the concert on findland's ferry is an official video and is audio and visual crap.
You want sadder songs from Nightwish? "Dead boys poem" "Poet and the pendulum" (normally it is much to early to react to this, but you already know it in the Anette version. But maybe before listening, do a quick recherche what the song is about. It is basically a suicide, but executed only in music).
I love that you take in the band as a whole. You dont focus only on one of their incredible talens and rant on that. Floor is a dark mage of puling people in, she has her hooks in you. But she is pullling you steady. But yhere is other music out there too. If you want a sad song try "Love me like theres no tomorrow" by Freddie Mercury. Its about inevitable loss. Its pop. Or "These are the days of our lives", where you see Freddie 2 steps from death. But if this is too strong on the Pride for you Nightwish have some jerkers too, like Dead Boys Poem. There are many great suggestions from the army here to choose from. We will be here watching whatever you choose.
Just found your channel, great reacts! Not sure if you've heard these already, but a few recs: - Epica's "Sancta Terra" from the Live Retrospect show. Normally a song for a single singer, but Floor Jansen is in that performance as well and makes it a duet. - Ayreon's "The Day That the World Breaks Down". Ayreon is a project by a multi-instrumentalist Arjen Lucassen and while it's more in the "prog rock/metal" vibe, he works with a wide range of metal musicians and singers. Look up the official video with the commentary; the song's about 13 minutes long but well worth it. - Nightwish's "The Greatest Show on Earth". It's a commitment at 20 minutes, but it's so damn good.
I got hooked on Nightwish and Floor around 14 months ago having (somehow) never having heard of them before. I liked what I liked for 40+ years and still do then Nightwish came along and blew me away 🙏😊👍❤️
"Sleeping Sun" by Nightwish may not be considered sad, but it's their most beautiful. A long shot would be "Change" (aka. Change Part 1 & Part 2) by the Australian band Karnivool. It's a little difficult to pick the best version but it's worth the search.
Well Wolff, am 71 and have seen the best alltime rock bands here and in euroland live. consider Nightwish top 3 rock band. thanks for the reaction from Colorado
That decent into heaviness in the latter part of the song and the ascending duet between Marco and Floor, with her pulling out her operatic top end belt.. such energy! Love it. This is a great gig too.. another DVD favorite and a band which I too discovered through reaction content.. If you're interested in another flavour of Floor, check out Northward "While Love Died".. that's a nice song from a fun album, with a long production history. If you want something a little more sombre go for Floor Jansen singing "Shallows" on Beste Zangers, or if you want sombre with a passionate turnaround go for Lovebites "Edge of the World" and/or "Frozen Serenade".
Very nice reaction. It's funny that you are surprised they can be heavy. Of course they can be, they are very versatile. Every song by Nightwish is different, thats one of the reasons I love'em as much as I do. This one always reminds me of old Metallica and yes that riff is awesome. But they have a heavier song with an even better riff if you ask me. Just enjoy your journey into their catalogue, there is so much more to discover 🖤🤘🏼
5 or 6 bands you say. Then I will add one more you should check out. Swedish power metal band SABATON. They write music about actual events with war theme. Maybe start off with the official music video Bismarck, about the battleship in WW2. There videos are known to be insane. And the drummer is married to our Valkyrie Floor Jansen whom you just witnessed singing like the microphone owed her money. About this reaction. Not hard to see that you enjoy it. And man do you have lots of amazing song to explore with this band. I am totally here for it.
