NF has ongoing "plot devices" that he brings up, foreshadows, and reiterates throughout his discography. The balloons are burdens that he carries around with him everywhere he goes. He also like so personify emotions and has several songs where he is arguing with them. Dude is next level when it comes to connectivity of themes spanning multiple albums.

I Watched one of Ren's live reactions and he talked about NF and how he loves his music and he would love to do something with him in the future

I would be surprised if Ren wasn't inspired by NF, NF personifies emotions and he literally has a song where he talks back and forth to himself, not just that, as an NF old fan listening to Ren, it immediately reminded me of Nf.

Yes to the Ren question. I've been NF for years, seen him in concert and I definitely felt Ren is probably familiar with NF. Not in a bad way, I think it's natural to be inspired by others. I think it's great that more ppl are making music that is relatable to "average" human.

It’s common for people to try to make sense of NF with out starting at the beginning. Like showing up halfway through a movie or book,You think you understand but you won’t. Like your reaction, I’ve seen it before.

You don't HAVE to do the journey .. it just leaves you with less questions and you appreciate the level he's at more and understand more bars (that he references other songs) All I would say is Start with: 1.INTRO 2.MANSION (necessary for almost every song following) 3. Ren talked about his proccess of making and writing "Hi Ren" in the comments on the song. He talked about how he used to have auditory halusinations in a voice that wasn't his own and it was difficult to drown it out and think for himself. The song is about the internal struggle he had in ignoring and fighting the voice that was constantly telling him the wrong path and doubting everything he wanted to do. it started when he was 9... The song was also written around two years ago and he re-recorded it for youtube in the performance you saw.

I know I’m super late on this but he says it in one of the lines of the song “I’m searching for the map to Hope, you seen it?” And in the newer song Hope there was so many call backs to this song. Pretty awesome puzzle being put together.

He's searching for joy and happiness.... But the cart will always be empty because you can't BUY happiness with money/ fame. You'll see in "Leave Me Alone" that he even sits inside the cart as of to say "I'm filling this cart with me, my accolades, my accomplishments, my success, my notoriety...." Then he gets out and says "Fame called and I hung up on him...." His wife says he should hang up his records, but he just throws then in the closet. Deep, deep symbolism if you walk your way through the whole NF Journey. I'm here for it!!

Welcome to the NF Cinematic Universe. If you look in the background, you'll see a metal cage. That cage came from the last album, in the music video for "Outcast". I view the cage as another incarnation of a particular room from the song "Mansion" (listen to the songs and decide for yourself). The shopping cart was first introduced in the video for "Why". He also pushes the cart around and sits in the cart in "Leave Me Alone". The people wearing white also made their first appearance in "Leave Me Alone" as well. You see him get in the cart and hunker down at the end of this video. Each album builds upon the previous ones, and the symbolism and imagery keep getting deeper and deeper. If you go back to the first album and start from the beginning I think you'd really appreciate the art. In this album, he's no longer living inside the cage but has a shopping cart, which I interpret as a small, portable cage that he can bring around with him. While he's "looking for the map to hope", he still feels overwhelmed at times and wants to close himself off from the world, which is why he brings the shopping cart with him, it's his mental crutch.

Great reaction.. NF has a long list of songs that tell the story and make more sense in order.. NF fans call it the journey. Leave me Alone is one of the next songs that follows this. Really one of the first songs someone should listen to from NF is Mansion which tells some of his backstory and explains how his songs kind of work. Outro 3 is a crazy song as well and one of the more graphic, hard hitting songs is called Therapy Session.. and if you just want a fire song without being too deep, Clouds is a great song that is mostly just a hype track. Story is a lesson in storytelling in rap.. the last 2 are off the same mix tape as Trust.. also he did Lost ft Hosin which is great too

I think you can skip most of his first album as far as "the journey goes" but Mansion is a must as it introduces a lot of his characters. 2nd album 'therapy session, if you care about order then do intro 2 and therapy session, how could you leave us, and real. 3rd album ' perception' musts are outro, intro 3 (one of my personal favorites), outcast, and remember this. There are more great songs on perception but not "musts" to the story. For the search you have listened to this one, then leave me alone, nate, when I grow up, and why, are in my opinion musts. Then for the Clouds mix tape the musts are Clouds and Lost. I don't see a whole lot of people talking about the shopping cart. The way I see it, it is a miniaturized version of the cage that NF mentions in Mansion, Outro and Intro 3, and introduces fully in the song Outcast. He leaves the cage behind in the Search, but he can't leave it all behind, so he takes it with him. It's both a curse and a defense mechanism.

the journey isnt needed, but it is good to go back to listen to earlier stuff, but just do leave me alone next as it is an arc with the search
