Here are some of definitions that you might need for hw: Primary sources: A primary source is an original document and/ or object created at the time under study. Primary sources help us piece together the stories of the past. Sourcing: Identifying and asking questions about the origin of the source about the author's purposes and perspective Historical context: Historical context is about locating events and sources in time and space and asking questions to do so Claim evidence connection: To be history stories must be supported by evidence. Truth claims in history need to be supported by evidence That is how we distinguish plausible claims from balderdash and good history from pure fiction
homework answers: Multiple accounts: We must use multiple sources to get as accurate a picture as possible. No single account captures the complexity of the past. * Textbooks * Original documents * Photos *Drawings *Films Primary sources: A primary source is an original document and/ or object created at the time under study. They are vital to reconstructing the past. *Learning how to read, question, and contextualize the stories *What did the witness have to lose or gain? *What interests were at stake? *How soon after the event? *For what audience the account was recorded? *Look for points of agreement and disagreement between the two accounts Sourcing: Identifying and asking questions about the origin of the source *What were the author's purposes? *What was the author's perspective? *When it was created? *Whom it was created for? *How trustworthy is it? Historical context: To get as accurate a picture as possible, you have to contextualize the words which require making connections. Historical context is about locating events and sources in time and space and asking questions to do so. *Who were they talking too, and for what purpose? *What were the perspectives at the time? *What were the ideologies of the day? *What were the words that came before? Claim evidence connection: To be history stories must be supported by evidence. Truth claims in history need to be supported by evidence That is how we distinguish plausible claims from balderdash and good history from pure fiction. The hardest part for most academics (and definitely non-academics) doing historical research is being as unbiased as possible. This has been stressed in anthropology but not so much in history. BTW, I have degrees in both history and anthropology.
nice introduction. there's a mind shift in social studies education that needs to happen as we look to begin teaching conceptually and leaving the memorize everything little thing approach behind.
It's a good video, although for most schools, we are given a few chapters and are simply meant to get random pieces of information coming from only one source, we are almost never given a variety of different perspectives, and it makes us to believe that we should trust the first statement that is given to us, it's quite sad really. I'm going to be honest, you can "cheese" most of your history questions through a simple command through Ctrl + F, and you wouldn't even have to look at the entire paragraph, just look at the question, see what it's referring to (maybe a location, a time, etc).... Copy that, Ctrl + F, Paste. It's a pretty big flaw in how History is taught online (and even English for that matter). I've seen a lot of people asking for "answers" even though there aren't any questions, but I'll give you guys a tip that'll save you half your time, look at the questions first, and search accordingly. Also, everyone is here because of school, whether it be a teacher or a student, who else would willingly go to this video, it doesn't even cover a specific history topic.
True, but it was the first "no", to trigger the support of a civil rights movement, like George Floyd wasn't the first black man to be wrongly killed by the police, her no isn't any less valuable if she wasn't the first to say it, you know? I'm just glad it happened.

The Fall of the West & the rise of the Rest is seen now as 'other' histories are taken into account eg: First Nations peoples history, the history & persecution of the Rrom (Gypsies) etc. The little person's history so as to speak.
