While India & Pakistan celebrated their 76th Independence Day on 14th & 15th August, its only fair to ask: What is the meaning of Independence? Who got independence from whom? Are we the people of India & Pakistan really independent? What have we gained in the last 76 years? And where are we heading?
A brief overview reveals that Pakistan has turned into a tyrannical garrison state where power hungry generals rule with the help of feudals, tribal chiefs, corporate leaders and few politician as lackeys. False comparisons with Israel are common and why these are wrong?
India is a functional democracy but getting more and more illiberal under the influence of religious extremism. Bangladesh has done better economically over past 15 yeas but is an authoritarianism with sham elections and abuse of human rights!
All three progenies of British India need a tolerant vision for future but none exists!
