Around timestamp 18:00, it was asked if a scientist could get or actually got two Nobel prizes in Physics. Yes, it happened. John Bardeen is the only laureate who has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics twice, in 1956 and 1972.

I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Dr Hoodbhoy so I was especially surprised that Dr Hoodbhoy wasn’t aware that there is one person who has actually won the Nobel Prize in physics twice - That man is John Bardeen. His first Nobel was jointly won with the invention of the transistor - the second Nobel Prize was also jointly won for the BCS theory of superconductivity.

37:14 When Dr. Salam visited India after winning the Nobel prize he made it a point to visit his old Math teacher from SD College Lahore, Mr. Anil Ganguly and had the humility and bhakti to put the medal on his teacher's neck and said "Thank you for instilling in me a love for math so many decades ago". India honored him , If I am not mistaken in one of the IITs a physics department is named after him.

I am so glad to see this podcast. I have a request, where there is such a difficult question that why there is a clash between Islam and science. The answer is that only because Salam has been made a special CATAGEORY ClASS in our country Pakistan, intellectual development is not done in MADRASSA (Religious Schools), Imran Khan's vision was to teach science to the students of madrasas. Hopefully, the solution to this problem will be very easy but alas...

It’s questionable that the scientist shed tears for a Jihadi state. “In order to love a country, a country ought to be lovely.” Soldiers of a lovely country do not rape helpless young Bengali women in Bengali villages. They don’t selectively murder intellectuals and professors in Dhaka university campus. A country worth shedding tears for is not run by the military generals for the benefit of an army state. The military generals wouldn’t know what is gravity, let alone black hole.

According to my point of view clash between science and religion is not because both are irrelevant to eachother. Actually main reason is that human mind can't relate both because of limited knowledge of both. That is why a religious mind considere that science deny the Islam. In case of Dr Abdul salam I think main reason to be a firm believer in his family belief is because of his limited knowledge about Islam.
@deepsareen1
@deepsareen1 3 месяца назад
Well Science is not irrelevant to Religion because it will always like to use the fruits of science to spread itself. However Science does not compulsorily need Religion. And you deduce that had Salam had limited knowledge of (what you think is correct) Islam so he did not revert. And when there will be complete knowldge of Science?(I suspect never; because we have hardly seen a miniscule part of the universe and also because new discoveries create new questions in their wake)

I would be in Pakistan for a short visit. Would it be possible to see the Hoodbhai or the host. I could tell you both a lot, which you both do not know about 74, 84, Salam, Bhotto, and Zia.

This post is not to take away from the brilliant achievement of this person but to add perspectives to his life. He attended " Santana Dharma School in Lahore and also attended Bombay University but returned to Pakistan right after partiton and enrolled in Lahore. His desire to be a Muslim plus retaining his Pak passport (while not being religious initially) was mainly due to having an Ahmadiya wife in Pakistan and bigamously marrying again a British woman in Cambridge and having children with both wives. It has been reported that he was considering wife # 3 when his devastating disease was diagnosed Like many, he enjoyed his booze and British pork chops.

If he was born in 1926 then his age should be 21 in 1947 not 14 years.... but it happens, no big deal. Great conversation anyway!

Dr. Abdus Salaam was an Ahmadiya. In Pakistan Ahmadiya's are officially regarded as non Muslims. That is why he has been rejected by Pakistan.
