Intrinsic value is the same as the amount a contract is in the money. A call has intrinsic value when the market price of the stock is above the strike price of the call. Options never have negative intrinsic value; with intrinsic values always a positive amount or zero. Ultimately, Intrinsic value is the potential profit to be made from exercising an option.
