I knew technology not being talked about is in action now. Now is a great time to test the new toys built over the last few years. Toys others may not have. Lasers are sure to be part of the shock and awe. May now prove to be money well spent.

The test runs in Maui, California and western Canada seems it works really well.

It’s definitely a game changer . But it has to be used simultaneously with the missiles . The laser doesn’t work in extremely cloudy or rainy weather .

We had free electron lasers at Sandia Labs in the 80's. Back then the apparatus was like 2 rooms huge encased in oil. It wasn't very accurate and way to big to be practical. Some 36 years later it's nice to know technology has finally caught up to Regan's ideas!

This is such an incredible feat of engineering. So sad that great minds, like the creators of this tech, even have to develop things like this. Human nature is so violent and awful

The biggest problem with the Iron Dome is that it is not effective against flying lawnchairs.

This is just an instance of how Israeli tech is simply unparalleled. The more one pushes them down, the stronger they rise!

What if opponents used parabolic mirror to reflect the laser back to sources or redirect that laser to other destinations as they wish to terminate? How to prevent that to happen?

they might have a mistake, the iron dome interceptor missile was upgraded through the years and cost alot less now, i heard of something like 25,000 dollars maybe 5 to 7 years from now, it might even cost less now but still combining it with laser is cheaper yes.

Iron- Beam reminds me of Durga Prasad Khatri's Raktamandal. Therein a revolutionary scientist, named Gopal Singh, creats a green beam (akin to Laser beam) using energy tapped from deep inside the earth through deep pipes bored inside the earth (doesn't it sound like geothermal energy !). This green beam of light created an arc around their secrete hideout protecting against any intruders.

They can start building reflective drones and bounce the laser back when targeted if possible

Problem is it doesn't work very well where there's lots of water or dust in the atmosphere. Or against highly polished surfaces.

Now, theu should invent something like missile that can do operations in tunnel. They are creative. They can fi d a way.

Terrain following weapons are a problem because light is "just" a straight line from it's source and cannot go around obstacles. Additionally because the lasers a still weak and have to be focused a while on an object, the position of the source of the beam is easily detectable and can be aimed. "A laser points at a target and at itself at the same time."

The powerful lasers are usuallly IR, they utilize heat energy, not a Sodium vapor yellow /orange laser, unless that's the tacking beam.

You still need a lot of Iron Beams to counteract a rain of missiles. And those tools isnt cheap.

This might be effective against drones and planes. Rockets or missiles less likely to work imho. If the target object has any spin on it then the laser will struggle to create a hot spot.

About 9 years ago this was developed on a small scale by USA defense contractor - the army did not find it remarkable - it was shared with Israel Intel and wallah we have it in the open -:let us see the future of this iron beam since the iron dome has failed - support Israel - Jai Jawan Jai Kissan

Welcome, for the new weapon of ISRAEL . VERY POWERFUL.

Makes me wonder how it works, but it could be something extremely simple, like a whole vehicle full of charged capacitors, powering massive amounts of LED lights concentrating light onto one single spot.

This defensive weapon was successfully field tested back in 2007. Why it has taken this long for deployment is beyond me.

It seems more of a compliment to the current defense system than anything. Look how slow it turns and it''ll take a bit to heat up the target before it explodes. I think the Iron Dome would still be quicker than this Iron Beam.

the problem is it covers a very small area, you would need thousands of the these to cover effectively, also this does not work well in certain weather conditions and it struggles badly with multiple targets.

The only issues I see is if someone takes out the power supply for the weapon. Then it would be useless. I'm stilll wondering how they were able to take out much of the area when they attacked.

This alone should explain how one that builds defense systems, cannot be an oppressor.

So this why they ignored the warning of the possible attack to introduce a new war toy .

Why don't they just skip ahead to Iron Net or Iron Hats?

Is this weapon an ION beam, rather than an Iron beam laser? As in, 'if an atom gains or loses an electron, it becomes "ionised"' and exerts a +ve or -ve charge.

I'm curious if this Iron Beam couldn't be defeated by rotating a missile in flight with an ablative surface and covered with a mirrored finish

It would be nice if the iron beam could turn the missile back to any place in Palestine so HAMAS will say that the missiles killed their citizens as a result of Israel not wanting to be shot

Radiation or heat can be blocked by shielding. Same as what they do for space shuttles ? So regular rockets still have a place even if this works.

Maybe a stupid question, but what would happen if a rocket was constructed with a super reflective surface? Would the laser be useless?

The important question, is how does this engage against multiple targets at the same time. The iron dome does this by launching multiple missles at once but it seems the iron beem needs time to cripple ine rocket then hop to the next.

Laser systems still needs guidance for detecting the projectile first before it could point and shoot. This is big problem in the modern warfare. Drones are so small, it could destroy Laser Systems with no problem .

Originally developed as the most precise and effective tool for circumcision.

This video has strengthened my apprehension about our former CDS Late Gen Rawat's unfortunate death in the helicopter crash.
