Item Response Theory (IRT) comprises a theory of measurement and a family of statistical models that aim to provide justification and evidence for the reliability and validity of multivariate data. This talk introduces the fundamental concepts and models of IRT, and provides a starting point for researchers wanting to use IRT in their work.

Be advised the equation that you presented for the 1PL and 2PL models, Y = a*theta - b, is not accurate. The correct model distributes the discrimination parameter across the deviate, i.e., Y = a(theta - b). The logit now become a*theta + c, where c = -a*b. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, I thought it was a good presentation.
