The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 was only directed towards the Confederate states that were in a state of war with Union. Because they were not in control of civil authority in Confederate states this proclamation had no effect. The slaves in Union controlled states were not effected(Missouri, Kentucky,Maryland) and proclamation was not directed to them. President Lincolns proclamation may have been intended to entice slave revolt and cause Confederate soldiers to be redeployed to end uprising(Confederate lines would have collapsed) or to entice Confederate states to make peace with Union and have same right to retain slaves as previously mentioned Union states with slave owners. It was the 13th amendment(DEC 1865) that actually ended the legal justification for owning a person.

correct.... at least part of HISTORICAL ITEMS were not torn down because of ignorance of historical value. And a good reason to NOT BE RACIST... but who cares about history..... overcoming the deplorable IDEA of racism is not limited to a race... have you ever been to India or the orient..... or the middle east... the racism in North America..... CAN'T EVEN HOLD A LIT CANDLE to those areas/peoples...

Kentucky and Delaware did not join the Confederacy so they were not covered under the Emancipation Proclamation. Slavery did not officially end for all enslaved people in America until December 6, 1865 with the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, not on June 19th which was specific to the Confederate state of Texas. It's fine to commemorate the end of slavery on whatever day we choose, but it's important to know the full history.

You probably don't know that blacks got a similar deal that the Israeli people got. They had a country established called Liberia. They received weapons and money. They then immediately enslaved the surrounding tribes. 😂😂😂

They want to keep us all divided. That is why they do EVERYTHING THEY DO. DON’T FALL FOR IT AND DONT ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK. Just know they don’t want every day people to get along. Oh they’ll turn it on you and make you look like the bad guy…it’s frustrating, but if we know better it backfires on them…AND I LOVE THAT!!! Peace!

Had no clue what this holiday was about growing up. Wasn't taught in my schools with almost 50% black students in Virginia in the 80s n 90s. But my understanding is now it's a thing after George Floyd cause looking up vids on Juneteenth, you won't find anything that goes further back than a couple years ago.

Don't be fooled slaves still exist, and they are not all African descent. Political pandering making it seem they are on your side. They are not! They want you to just go party, and don't worry about the digital prison coming soon. Or the fact that America is sold out to the WEF!

Slavery was on it's way out anyway. The labor intensive agriculture was getting more mechanized. Truth, the union did not give two shifts. It was cheaper to hire a FOB immigrant. Officially there are 13 states listed as Confederate. Actually there where 15. The Choctaw and Cherokee Nations. I wonder why thy ceased to exist? There is a pattern. For some reason there was a resistance among the tribes to join up with the North. I wonder why? Proof the winner always writes the history books.

Two states have not accepted "Juneteenth" as a national holiday. North and South Dakota do not accept it. Why? Simply because they do not have a large bunch of African ancestors in those states! Should I deem myself as English Americans and get a lot of special treatment? Not likely!!!

If only 250,000 were enslaved then why do we speak the way we do as if All blacks were enslaved and why are we celebrating freedom given to us by them and not Go d?
