REI, killin it on RU-vid lately with all this content! As a female adventurer that blogs mainly to inspire and educate women to travel and get outdoors, I'm loving that your videos all feature a lady!

Does it really matter if the speaker is a male or female? I want the most knowledgeable person whether male or female. Stop the politically correct bs!
@AJauntWithJoy

@@TesterBoy No "politically correct bs" here. I'm simply saying that I enjoy the fact that a woman is sharing outdoor knowledge here. Women are incredibly underserved and under represented in the outdoor industry. That's not politically correct, it's just correct lol YAY to REI for featuring an educated outdoorsy woman!

A Jaunt With Joy Who says, and WHY are women “underrepresented “ in the outdoor industry? Male discrimination? The fact of the matter is that far more men enjoy outdoor stuff such as camping, hunting, gold-prospecting, etc much more than woman. It’s called the difference between the sexes. If you love the outdoors, more power to you. I wish more women would do such things. But not in the politically correct bs way of bean counting like they have done in our colleges (Title 9). And REI is full of other politically correct bs because if they were truly an outdoor shop (like BassPro and Cabela’s), they would carry hunting gear including firearms. They are decidedly anti-hunting and ant-gun: www.usatoday.com/story/money/2018/03/02/rei-vista-outdoor/388101002/ I have bought plenty of stuff at REI only because they have a shop near me, but otherwise it makes no sense using trendy stuff while camping. That’s good for pc crowd. We have too many of them here in California. Watch “Survival Lilly” on RU-vid. She probably has done much more out in the woods both male and female than almost all of them at REI!

@@TesterBoy I'm a woman who greatly enjoys the outdoors and I know hundreds of other women who are outdoor bada$$es as well. I went to an Environmental College for Wildlife Biology and I'm dating a park ranger, so the outdoor lifestyle is in my blood. I think that just because men "seem" to enjoy and participate in outdoor recreation more often doesn't mean that women should be represented less in the media. I especially think if more women were featured in outdoor media, more would feel comfortable and confident getting into nature themselves. Which is why I started a blog on this -- to get more women outdoors and to shed light on the fact that women need to start being featured more, and catered to more in this industry. It's a shame that when I look up things like "man outdoors" vs "woman outdoors" on RU-vid, very few women appear. I watch Survival Lilly because of this. She's sadly one of the only women that's currently filming her outdoor knowledge and adventures on here. If you don't agree with REI's politics, maybe don't watch their stuff?

I practice LNT. Just wanted to get that out of the way first. But what burns me is this. In WV, ...you essentially have no backpacking in state parks and state forests. Hiking yes, ...but not backpacking. No overnight camping. Most close at 10pm, ...everyone out. That leaves us with Monongahela National Forest. It is indeed amazing. But... They fully allow hunting and fishing. Please explain to me why a National Forest would completely abandon all aspects of LNT ethics for hunters and fishermen, ...but yet expect it of hikers and backpackers? That goes against everything you said about interacting with the wildlife, staying on trail, ...etc. And the worst part is, ...Those areas are not "closed" to hiking/backpacking during those hunting seasons. Try not to get shot! Your thoughts?

The extremists at the Sierra Club would rather have NO human in the wild at all. Hearing this REI speaker, i am reminded of this same extremist bs mindset. Definitely don’t leave garbage. This is a no brainer. But if it were possible, the environmentalist Nazis would want you not to shit in the wild! Why? Because you’re “carbon footprint “ is too big. Why don’t they expect this of hunters and fishermen? Very simple. Such folk are only briefly (a day, maybe 2 at most) in the wild. Backpackers and campers are in the woods for typically much longer. Thery are worried you may “hurt” nature. Listen carefully to what this speaker said and you can see this is her attitude. I counter: we humans are NOT guests in their (the animals) house! Do these dumbasses really believe humans evolved in houses? These extremists are anti-human: they would rather have humans die then kill an animal for food (or human safety). I practice “act like a human in the wild”. LNT behind is only shit (yes, I live it behind). It’s called natural fertilizer!

@@TesterBoyI used to go backpacking with a Sierra Club group. They weren’t political at all. This was in the early 1990s. Now the Sierra Club are just a bunch of communists who advocate for Marxism and “climate change “ and don’t care about nature or wildlife

Is there any part of Leave No Trace that says “Don’t day hike in natural areas in big packs while incessantly gossiping at the top of your lungs”. It kind of spoils things for backpackers and hikers who might want to see wildlife (loud human shouting tends to scare wildlife away). I’m lying in my tent near Raven Rock Shelter on the Appalachian Trail after spending the day hearing big packs of female day hikers about a mile before I meet them on the trail.

Leave No Trace is advocating not to shorten the phrase Leave No Trace to (lnt). When talking to others in the outdoors it is more inclusive to call it Leave No Trace, so others could be included. It takes no more energy to say Leave No Trace. People new to the outdoors are the folks who need to understand Leave No Trace, and just by using the full name you have already allowed them to understand more, instead of feeling excluded since you are using a three letter acronym.

New rule, even if you dig a hole please, please go 200 feet out of camp not 5 feet away from where people set up tents to poop. I know you got your Instagram photo and are now done with this place forever, but seriously people, please stop destroying all the places we all like to go to.
