Politically? Powerless. Strategically? Guam is a perfect spot for US military presence in the Pacific and provides an entry point to Asia. PR hasn't provided a strategic anything for the US in decades. I guess it could be considered a foothold to South America due to its relative closeness (compared to any other US property) to the Venezuelan coast but it really is an overstatement. They were used for military/population experiments back in the day though. That's about it.

So they have no medications, hospitals will use the same needle for multiple patients, bedsheets are stained with blood, and no anesthesia is ever given for surgeries. When I had to go to Pusan south Korea with the US Navy and outside of being a horribly polluted country I made the observation that almost the whole population smoked cigarettes. I hated it there and I was glad when I had to leave.
