@@KarenSueBurton I think this was a test to see if we paid attention to what Dr. Westman has been teaching' Looking at the comments, most people passed the test.
Been doing it since 2017. Moved over to the 3&3 eventually and been maintaining my goals and then some. It’s all about discipline. Get rid of your victim mentality.
I did optavia. The food tastes AWFUL. There is SOYBEAN OIL in every packet! I wish I knew then what I know now!! Expensive, too! Now I stick to Whole Foods and follow Dr. Westman’s plan. Keep it simple!
I actually just ordered some without soy. I have a lot of weight to lose & don’t want to go on ozempic with its many negative & black box warning, I think Optavia is a good choice for me try right now.
Several ladies in my church did this program. Oh they lost but it came right back on once they got tired of eating what they called "dirt "! They said the food was horrible & very expensive!!!
Even though I'm a nutrition geek (and RN) and knew better, out of desperation, I joined Medifast (before the name change to Octavia) 10 years ago.. I lost about 40 pounds and have kept 20 lbs off for 10 years. Even though I hated the fact that I was eating packaged processed food, it worked for me as I didn't have to try to create my own meals or make too many choices. I also have trouble with portion control. For some people, it may be a good way to jump start a weight loss plan but obviously it's not ideal for the long haul because it's processed, etc.
Yeah I was kind of surprised it got the stamp of approval especially since you are supposed to eat three of their meals for life along with three meals including grains, beans, etc🤔
That is what happens with many diets and also the new weightloss injections...once you stop, you gain it back, usually plus more. Not good. With the Optavia pan, you lose the weight, get healthy, and transition to the maintenance plan to keep the weight loss permanent. IT is a lifestyle change for the better, not just a diet plsn.
Yup. Optavia is what I call a Mother-of-the-Bride diet. Ie, you go on it just to look okay in your pricey polyester dress on the Big Day. Then by the time your grandchild is born you are a bubble-butt again. This Optavia is perfect for people who choose to live their lives leapfrogging from one short-term goal to the next. 🐸
Keto works for me because I can eat what I like, when I want it. I can find something that works at any store. I've lost 34 lbs in three months, while a friend on Optavia has been at it longer and has lost a little over 20. If she is stalling out at 800 calories a day, I fear she's going to have a lot of trouble maintaining.
No low calorie diets for me. No high expense plan for me. No low fat foods for me. No packaged foods for me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my real fresh whole food keto way of life. And I’m one heck of a healthy 70 year old because of it.
I love the way certain foods taste in the program. That’s why I am back on it, I’ve been going to the gym consistently for a year, I have seen major results, but I need to add the food part. I am ALWAYS starving and end up eating bad snacks. I cook every meal from scratch, we buy raw milk, grass fed beef etc. but the snacks were ruining my progress. I’m excited to have snacks that I love ready to go for me.
The Jenny Craig company has recently collapsed here in Australia and also New Zealand. Hopefully the (ex) customers will find out about low carb lifestyle. I've been low carb since Oct 2021 and I don't get hungry and have lost over 20% of my starting weight (without even trying, no exercise; only stretching and strengthening) and I have not gained it back. I am no longer a slave to food.
They are telling addicts that they can have their drugs back after a time. If you tell people they can't have it back, it might be off-putting. But they want as many customers as possible.
So I’m not a coach, I’m not involved w the company. I loved the food esp the shakes and I lost 60 lbs and kept it off for 5 years after not eating from the “packages”. It just made it easy for the weight loss period. I don’t like the MLM part but I do like Dr Anderson and his free you tube videos and I’m not saying this to get customers bc I’m not a coach. Just wanted to throw that out there.
I did this and lost ten pounds in three months! Now at the weight I want to be! It was easy to follow! I am off it now and will continue with some of the fueling’s, but back to following the keto diet!
If you really want to get involved in Multi-Level Marketing just sign up for Amway and then actually lose weight in a more sustainable and delicious way with Keto or Carnivore. Outside of a few yummy bars (which are still highly processed) most of the food was pretty bad and expensive.
Lost me on all the requirements, lack of calories and all the stuff I already know make me very hungry. I am not a fan of paying for programs, potions or pills. Having to continue this type of regimen for the long haul LIFE makes it unattainable by many. I can create that low of a calorie deficit on my own eating real foods, but I was often not eating enough and was always hungry and tired. Love your take on these types of "Quick Weight Loss Programs", they are less sustainable than Keto or anything of such as I've found.
Not so many requirements. Easy to follow. If you’re familiar with weight watchers, Beach Body, Jenny Craig, you got this. It’s a good reset. It’s 30 days, then it’s easier to watch how you eat or go back to Keto.
Bought a keto mojo! Going into year #3 keto as of Easter. Significant dietary changes, but not much happening otherwise--used to eat only carbs for days in a row. (Truly my preference, but was healthy diet according to standards--albeit it too much food.). Anyways, total reform, but what does meter say? .3, .4, .3 but ketosis begins at .5‼️😭. Decided not to eat till that darned meter would say I accomplished something. Bingo! .7 at 2pm!!! Geeeeez...a miracle! Can't tell you how happy I am. IDK.... think the old metabolism is all but dead, folks. No breakfast in 3 years...good thing apparently since I guess I didn't even make ketones by the time I was eating lunch. Tall order, folks. Work hard. 🤞Ain't easy.
Well, I might lose weight by eating a little arsenic every day, if I can stick with it. But sticking with it wouldn’t really be the healthiest thing for me to do. The problem is this diet is dangerous, and Dr. Westman said it’s ok. It’s not ok.
Thanks for doing this review Dr. Westman! I love your channel, I am reading your books! I don’t like packaged foods etc and I’ve stayed away from soy, sucralose etc for 25 years best I could. I do have some friends that lost weight on Optavia 3-4 years ago they all kept the weight OFF bc they did the transition slowly once they lost 65+ pounds or so they slowly added 50 calories each day over few days then the next week 100 etc all the way up until you get to 1500-1800 calories where you can transition to keto/Whole Foods etc & maintain weight. One of the 3 friends I know said she kept it off 4 years. She had thyroid out a couple months ago & gained 25 pounds in 4 weeks & she is back on plan & just lost most it already. I’m posting this bc some of us need options that aren’t ozempic…I have a lot to lose but those shots make me nervous as to the black box warning & long term negative affects we don’t know about yet. I’m on day 3 and eating 1000 calories a day. I’m a tad hungry but not starving…I have 80-90 pounds to lose so I’m not gonna starve. But I’m loving that I’m eating a keto type meal of chicken, steak . Butter, veggies & hard boiled eggs, dill pickles..etc. just had eggs & mushrooms & spinach! I feel pretty good & can choose to add an extra egg or string cheese if I get too hungry in between. If this helps teach me portion control & hopefully get healthier for longevity! I’ll know better by end of July 2024 if this plan is working for me too. All this to say it’s crazy how people shut things down without researching. I did research on this since May. No not a dr but I do know that just doing what I’ve been doing I needed more structure. Anyways thanks for all you do! I know I can transition to your plan once I hit my goal weight & I won’t need to worry about sugars going up! God bless!!!
Medifast... ugh that brings back terrible memories of weight loss shakes and diarrhea. So this plan is low calorie low fat AND low carb. I don't think Dr Westman hear that part. Overall it's not sustainable for any length of time.
I would love to have Dr Westman address this. Everyone I know felt happy and full of energy from day 1, even the obese and clinically depressed. Could not see any ingredient that would account for the feelings of wellbeing. We did 5/1 plan...5 fuelings to 1 lean and green.
No. Diets like these have always made me end up gaining all the weight back plus more no matter how long I take to transition back. Then of course I'm doing literally nothing but obsessing over food all day long, every day. In looking at the ingredients for some of their main 'fuelings', they all share some form of sugar/maltodextrin, canola oil, and yeast extract (similar to MSG). Also, just slightly more than one cup of food. Essentially a starvation diet with seed oils, sugars, and MSG - an omg the bars and shakes - and oh look! "bioengineered ingredients". Yuck. Just no. Not for me. 😣Give me my steak and butter thank you. 🥰
Six meals a day is not too smart. True health starts with reducing insulin resistance and you can't do that if you have high blood insulin levels due to frequent meals.
Six meals at say 120g of carbs in total are 20g of carbs per meal. I guess they have to do it this way because people will be hungry all the time. It's not a diet which restricts itself (like keto).
Each fueling is a total of 100 calories, the amount needed for the next 2.5 to 3 hours. The feelings mentioned also contain protein, vitamins, probiotics, etc to provide a ready made, easy to follow plan.
I personally am looking forward to it. I get that the boxed foods are only for a time to jump start weight loss while learning new healthy eating habits. I'm very excited to start... Updates to follow.
I'm an optavia coach... This woman does a terrible job explaining what this is. She doesn't even pronounce Optavia correctly. The founder of the program preaches that whole foods are best. The whole premise of the program is to make weight loss easy while you learn new healthier habits through the educational component of the program. If you are treating it as a temporary 'diet' you aren't doing the program correctly. If you want to use the product out of convenience after you transition to your new healthier eating habits then more power to you, definitely not required. This program changed my life. I dove into the educational program and have been maintaining my 60lb weight loss for 2 years. I eat all whole foods and occasionally use a fueling here or there if I'm traveling or will out and about and know there'll be limited options for healthy food.
Yeah, but they don't allow butter, which you know is one ingredient, where as seed oils have so much s**t you would be better off drinking oil from your car 😬
I love optavia !! I lost 169lbs and have been maintaining for quite awhile now. Before I started, I was on three different medication’s and had a sleep apnea. I was off all my medication’s in my fourth month on program . I also use the fueling’s when I’m out traveling because of the convenience and I know it’s healthy.
@@sonjawalkerreactionscommen3501 1tsp of butter is considered a healthy fat in the optimal 5&1 plan... Many things are allowed. Butter is allowed in the correct portion 🙂
I am very disappointed you didn’t speak to the dangers of this diet. I was on an 800-calorie/day Medifast diet, with a medically supervised weight loss program at a well respected hospital in Cincinnati. In 3 months I lost 50 pounds, and a lot of hair, and my period (I was only 45), and I ended up in the hospital for 3 days with extremely low sodium. Seizures occurred, and I had to take 6 weeks off work on disability, because my brain was not working properly. My career never recovered from that setback. I gained 60 pounds, left with no career, early menopause, and likely other medical damage I don’t even know about. This was your chance to say DANGER! And you said, ya, that will probably work for some people. This makes me wonder what else you advocate for that might be harmful.
Yes, I was also disappointed at first with the lack of criticism. Later it dawned on me that perhaps this is a test whether we all have paid attention in the past 😉. Looking at the comments, most people did. 👍
Optavia 's parent company IS Medifast! Basically the same product only your so called coach is not trained in nutrition or health. They pay to be a coach.
@@wocket42 yes! I’m in my 60’s now. Just started dipping my toes into keto a couple of years ago. It’s amazing! But a very hard mind-shift doing the opposite from everything I’ve been told all my life. I’m mostly ketovore now, and carnivore many days. I’ve lost 45 pounds in the past 18 months, am no longer on any medications, all joint pain is gone, I climb stairs effortlessly now, and had to dial back my CPAP settings from 18 to 12. Probably time to reduce that again. Best part is getting my brain back. I don’t think it’s back to where it was before that liquid diet crash disaster, but it’s better than it’s been in 20 years.
@@valbrenneman9071 exactly! And I was seeing a medical professional at a hospital every other week, with blood tests on the opposite week. They watched my sodium gradually go way below standard ranges and told me that was a good thing. It almost killed me. We have to do our own research. It’s a shame, but we just can’t trust anything any medical professional tells us anymore.
I am back on OPTAVIA, I did it in May to Oct 2018 in preparation for a military PT test. I lost 55 lbs in 4 months. I tried to keep up with it during Construction training amd found myself needing to eat more calories. The bars help for that supplement portion. Due to injuries throughout my service, I am now unable to exercise without pain. I have put on weight. I looked into weightloss medicines and found they would just increase the other medical issues I have already. I restarted and have lost almost 20lbs in 3 weeks. One thing none ever talks about is the fact the supplemental food does have vitamins and minerals. I am curious how many of these people that put down Optaiva are taking supplements for going to the gym, waking up, lunch time, going to bed. It's not just processed food. It's processed everything. It's genetically grown food, unless you own a farm or live close enough and are friends with a farmer your going to find everything you eat is heavily processed in the USA. I find the worst part of OPTAVIA is the price. The thing is the program works for me and I'll suffer with the price until I am good. I can pick the foods that I like, physiological they have close enough taste and texture to their real counterparts that I can stick with it. Are there things that taste gross, yep!! I don't order those items! When I am done I'll turn off the shipments.
I was hang up on Weight Watchers. I did the program three times. The last time it did not work. I lost only a few pounds and soon gained it back plus. No more programs that cost for me. I am currently doing the low carb, no sugar diet. I bought Dr. Westman's book End Carb confusion which is a treasure. This is the most I want to spend. I am done with paying to lose weight!
This ONLY works for those don't have clue. As soon as you stop the plan, you gain back or you may get worse My keto/paleo like eating style can be more sustainable. Since then, I choose more on real food and go for low carb and dynamic allocation between fat and protein. My goal isn't just to drop my weight, but I have to fix problem.
because low calorie diets are proven to achieve weight loss and to reverse diabetes as can going vegan, keto, etc. The Dr. is, after all, a specialist in obesity medicine. He has stated many times that keto is not the only option...right?
@@terised I agree, but apparently some folks gain if they take in more calories...I don't like to think about it, but I wonder if for some of us, that's the bottom line. But I'm w you, and don't want to go there.. don't want to think it may be "right" for some of us...
Sounds like a guaranteed yoyo inducing diet. Too much carbohydrates, far too little fat and too little calories. Probably also expensive and unhealthy industry-processed food.
I tried it for a couple days and the food tastes terrible. The one good thing is that if you return it they will give you your Money back. It is very expensive. Plus you have to buy your food for the one meal you eat.
I did optavia about 10 years ago it was called medifast back then I was going to a clinic I did lose 75 pounds just to hit goal and gain everything back plus 40 more. It was expensive but I had no problems on it.
The weird thing was energy is through the roof on it. I wish he had looked into the ingredients to explain what the secret is. The ingredients look like junk with added vitamins and minerals. The food mostly tastes terrible but does cover crunchy, creamy, sweet and savory so some thought was put into addressing cravings.
You eat 5 "fuelings" that only have 100 calories each. Then for supper you eat a low fat meat with a green vegetable. The packages are high protein and once you subtract the protein calorie from 100, that doesn't leave a lot for carbs.
I think I will stick with steak and eggs. If I get cravings, I eat 🍖 meat. Processed food is killing us. I need to stop drinking booze, the mixers are sugar.
Apparently you must learn how to talk with your hands in the same way as these two, and then maybe you’ll be successful?? No thanks. Real whole nutrient dense foods for me.
If you plan to do optavia, be forewarned. If you come off you may gain back more than you initially lost or gain back half but look bigger than your initial appearance. I lost 74lbs in 9 months. It became expensive trying to pay for the fueling boxes. So we came off, stuck to our plan and even ate healthy options everyday. Lol, regular Coca-Cola is nasty to us now. We even quit smoking, i gained back 36 lbs of the 74lbs I lost and look bigger than I did when we started. I thought i finally found the ticket. I gave up and felt I would be huge my whole life. Optivia showed me an image of a beautiful me and i was all in. But at nearly $450/mo, I couldn't stay on. I dont know what chemical change made your body grab all the fat but it comes back with vengeance.
Yes and I got diabetes after going off, but started getting pre-diabetes while losing on the program. I never had a blood sugar problem before at 275lbs but it could have been aging.
Diets don't work I've done atkins gained weight back I've done high carb lost weight felt amazing full 9f energy then gained weight I've tried fasting but gained weight back on soon as ate anything The best I felt was on the white rice diet blood pressure dropped while it was very high on keto
Keto will make you gain weight at first more than likely because you're malnourished and need it. Plus you could have a thyroid issue. No amount of carbs in excess is healthy whatsoever.
