Phosgene nasty stuff man. NBC/CBRN Warfare always interests and terrifies me at the same time it's a morbid curiosity. And in my research phosgene is one of the more horrifying biproducts of organophosphates one factor that was reported is it could decrease the effectiveness of respirator filters is particularly terrifying but chemical warfare as a whole is no freaking joke. As somewhat of a prepper I find your videos very informative man keep it up!
Glad you find some of the information in them useful, yeah Chlorine is not super scary as chemical weapons goes due to it needing to be in very high concentrations to be fatal, get to things like phosgene, blister agents and nerve agents and you have chemical weapons that can kill quickly or maim horribly.
Phosgene is a common industrial chemical and is not really a byproduct of organophosphate production. It was first synthesized in 1812. The chemical degraded filters in use in WWI, but with modern filter formulations, this is no longer a problem.
NanoBurger wow I must have been getting some bad information thank you man. And it's good to know that modern filters can stop it that makes me feel a little more at ease in a SHTF scenario involving gas.
I have a good feeling you have a nice file in the NSA and British intelligence archives seeing how much you look up on line chemical weapons and your postal history of gas masks =)
One thing to note about phosgene, some brake cleaners, while they may say they are not flammable, when exposed to high heat may react to form phosgene amongst some other nasty chemicals. While not much will be produced, it’s always best to be careful
It can also be made and inhaled when R-12 refrigerant is ignited. Common when old food coolers are burnt which happens in restaurant and food production facilities.
I recently got back into your channel after I got bored of my current interests. One day I was bored and looked at my FM12 that I bought 8 months ago. I thought to my self "Hey, gas masks are pretty cool. I'd like to get back into them." "After all it might just save my life one day". I've always enjoyed emergency preparedness and military stuff. I never understood why most preppers on RU-vid disregard gas masks. Anyway I'll be watchin your vids. Cheers from Colorado!
Glad you like the videos, I've heard some preppers say dumb stuff like, "I have to shave my beard to wear a gas mask so I don't want to do it, or you can't get in-date filters for masks anyway."
Know a veteran who was in the CS gas or “tear gas” chamber. It is activated by water, and he went to wash his hair after the chamber and said it was pretty fun lmao. It dried on his hair and when he went to wash it: it reactivated and “off-gassed “ him.
One last thing in my research I have found Direct contact with the eyes can lead to severe eye damage. However if you come into contact with phosgene or any other similar chemical weapon it doesn't really matter. If you're exposed as such you're probably already dead in both my bug in and Bug Out kits I have atropine however I'm unable to find any information if such an antidote would be effective. Like I said man really nasty stuff. Thank God I haven't seen any recent reports of phosgene gas being used. Once more man thanks for your videos always appreciated.
When pvc or the refrigerant oil in compressors burns it creates phosgene gas so anytime you braze old refrigerant lines especially if youre replacing a compressor on the condenser you have the potential to create phosgene gas the flame of your torch will burn purple and green thats how you know that its present
I grew up very close to a chemical plant that makes chlorine oxygen products. The deadlyness is made clear by mandatory alarm drills. In the USMC I was trained with CS and it still makes me unnerved
Yeah CS is nasty stuff but only normally fatal in very high doses or for people with lung problems. Phosgene and other similar TICs can be very deadly in even small volumes.
I imagine that if you went to A&E in the UK and said "I've been exposed to phosgene", at best they'd say "what's phosgene..???". At worst, they'd laugh you out of the building...
if you inhale phosgen you have to go into an oxygen tent. Phosgen is treated with cortison. And a normal mask won't help. An abek filter might help for 2 or 3 minutes. SCBAs can prevent damage if you are shaved.
Phosgene gas was used by the Italian Army at Gorizia in 1916. They used it because Austrian soldiers were hiding and buildings and there was widespread fighting in the streets. General Cadorna had Phosgene shells fired at the railway depot as Austrian Troops had fortified it. The Austrians hid in the ticket booths, behind desks and even under benches
Phosgene is produced when you heat carbon tetrachloride in a flame, I remember an old engineer told me when I was child it makes a cool green flame, they knew how to have fun in the 1940s . Carbon tetrachloride was also a common ingredient in fire extinguishers…
I was hoping that the video would contain info on how to detect phosgene. Having a mask seems pointless against phosgene if it does damage before your aware of it. Ive been searching for weeks for a detector that would be good for phosgene but could only find one or two devices which were extremely expensive and therefore out of my price range. I have the military surplus chemical strips but as far as i know thats just for chems and not for gas/vapor.
hello Weaponsandstuff93 , i live in mexico and am going for vacations to usa, question .. is it okay to buy a gas mask and transport it back in my luggage for airplane travel?
That should be fine as long as the people in the airport don't get really weird about it, the law regarding exports in the US lets you take them out with you, just not mail them out to other people.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 hmm I bought a full face SGE 1000 gas mask for spray painting got it off eBay from a US seller and it was shipped to UK without any issues. Is there specific laws regarding shipping protective equipment?
Man my great grandfather was gased a lot in ww1 I think he died from breathing problems years later so it could be mustard, phosegene, or chlorine gas.
Weaponsandstuff93 I'm not sure he didn't end up in a hospital he may have inhaled little bits of it while putting on a gas mask so he could of inhaled a little of all three gases for all I know
A group of 100 people is exposed to phosgene in two consecutive periods as follows: (a) 10 ppm for 30 min and (b) 1 ppm for 300 min. Determine the expected number of fatalities.
If it's from the time of the Soviet Union it will contain asbestos, considering every Soviet filter that has had a lab report carried out on it so far for asbestos has come up positive.
No it doesn't, mustard causes chemical burns to the skin, a massive amount in the lungs will lead to death but mustard is generally not fatal from first contact, it kills over a course of weeks, mustard was used as a demoralising weapon not as an effective killing weapon.
I feel like you would be looking up the information for these videos and google is looking at your history thinking whether to do something or not like they look at your history and in there you have tear gas, phosgene, chlorine, and many more gases
if ammonia and bleach makes phosgene/mustard gas does that mean that the soldiers peed in cups/jars with bleach in it and throwed it at there enemy? edit: this is a joke
A matter of fact, Glutathione levels in lungs can protect in aerosol form. NAC can also be injected with L-Glutathione this could help. all depends how fast you administer them. be careful with NAC but Glutathione you can load up on that when it comes to countering this seemingly irreversible toxin.
wow...when you notice the smell...its too late....how unfair is that ... cant even panic... like...what that smell..ahhh...smell like cut grass but wait...bam... you dead....not kool man...not cook at all...;-(
It is not fast. Looking at, if unprotected, a half hour of drowning in your own blood and lungs. And yes, the effect is blinding when in in contact with the eyes. As to antidote? There is no way to reverse the dissolving lungs.
