What is Res Ipsa Loquitor? 

I have found my new torts teacher, thank you for making it so much easier than law school. The examples are great. Please do more on scope of liability, causation etc.

The concept is from Byrne v. Boadle in 1863. It wasn't a refrigerator, it was a barrel of flour from the second floor of a shop. In law school, we took "res (pronounced race) ipsa loquiter" to mean "If a barrel falls on your head, it's the other guy's fault."

On the question of physician-assisted suicide, could rest ipsa loquitur be used as an argument for why someone should be allowed the assistance? it seems to me quite reasonable that if someone asks for physician-assisted suicide, that the act itself rises above self preservation enough so that it should be honored automatically.
