Honestly I feel like it’s very obvious that the OSRS team cares deeply about their game and it’s playerbase. The level of depth they’ve gone into preparing sailing and keeping the community informed every step of the way says a lot. We are blessed to have such a great team working on OSRS.
@@nicolasfranco9749 EOC itself works great for the game. shame people arent good enough to learn a complex combat system that can be both easy and less rewarding or hard and very rewarding.
@@nicolasfranco9749 EOC definitely split up the game, but it's really too bad that some people are still incapable of finding out how fun bossing in RS3 can be. Just because it takes more than 10 seconds to understand, or because it doesn't fit their idea of what rs "ought" to be. The first is skill issue, the second is subjective.
@@imabud1203 necromancy will be the final nail in rs3's coffin, invalidating every other combat style and every boss that drops weapons for those combat styles will have horrible consequences for the state of the game (for osrs players out of the loop, imagine if when fang was added it was actually bis for every single piece of content in the game, and now imagine it dropped from barrows, now imagine they buffed it after release instead of nerfing it. thats necromancy)
Another great ship cosmetic would being able to use boss head's/items change the look of our ship such as a figurehead, or styling of our ship (similar to how it is with slayer helmets)
I voted for shamanism, but i am so glad sailing is going ahead seeing this. I’m hyped, i think it will just do nothing but add to the game! Big up Jagex!
I love the idea of Elvarg “gently shooing away” new players who haven’t finished Dragon Slayer yet. For lore reasons, I hope Crandor is actually dangerous to approach. Think about how much more eager someone would be to actually beat Elvarg if they had previously lost a ship to her!!
Expeditions sound so awesome. Procedural generated dungeons are exactly what OSRS needs. The randomness makes gear prep so much fun. Similar to dungeoneering but without the skill attachment. They could take expeditions outside of sailing and release them annually alongside raids.
@@alexdelhoyo9179 Gauntlet is dungeoneering lite. My only problem with dungeoneering when it came out was that it didn't feel like a proper skill since there was no purpose outside of the dungeon crawling sub-game.
@@JohnFromAccounting gauntlet is endgame and highly repetitive. Islands exploration could have more diverse and would only be part of the sailing skill.
Ngl boys, this seems like a lot of fun! Bit hesitant on how big of an impact it has on the rest of the game, but if implemented correctly it could be very cool! Cautiously optimistic.
@petermitchell7851 seems mostly mid level players or newer players to the game over the veterans are voting for it and the veterans are the ones constantly paying for the game, spending most on bonds or have multiple members accounts. Just from what I've seen anyway.

@justinkuzara4696 new / mid level players aren't the ones spending money on the game, generally it's the veterans (not in all cases but most) because why would people invest a lot of irl money into a game they barely play, without that income OSRS won't have the money for constant development / new content or extra staff, hence me saying it's the beginning of the end. So no.. we really do not want that.. unless you're a fan of the game dying.
they gotta make miscellenia a port where you can export your goods to different areas for increased profit. Tower defenses there for unfriendly boats would be sick as well.

Oh my gosh, I suggested a sailing skill akin to Construction like.... 13 years ago on the forums! I can't believe all these years later, they've finally added it into the game! I'll have to check this all out, I'm really excited to see how it works.
one thing that caught my eye The xp lamps from existing quests with no sailing req. I think they should be held off from launch for the first month or so, it doesn't feel right to boost someone to lvl 10 from the get-go when a new skill launches and skipping part of it

They mentioned that was what they had in mind during the lore and integration blog I believe. The lamps wouldn't be usable right away until the world first race was over
I've avoided following the blog updates because I was admittedly pessimistic about the skill, but this turned me around. Genuinely excited to see more.
The idea of being able to use using hunter, slayer, and sailing to hunt sea monsters has actually got me more excited about this game than anything else in probably years
And this is why the game is being ruined. Content content content. Doesn't matter what it is, just as long as you get more things to ravage and burn out on within a week.

I think the Jagex team have absolutely SMASHED this one! They've put in such good work and I think they've really come up with a create pitch here! I would be super excited to see this come into the game.
I will be voting yes to sailing. My only worry is so many players, genuine or trolls, keep coming back to sailing being a mini game when I worry it’s actually the opposite. Sailing will more the double the size of the game. On land we currently have content based around 23 skills. How will the old school team make sure that adding sailing to RuneScape doesn’t feel like adding an entire new game into one skill
I mean, its a skill and a map expansion....Just like how adding Kourend didn't feel like adding a new game, letting the player explore the ocean won't feel like a new game. Plus a lot of Sailing at low levels will be in the sea near familar places (ie Port Sarim, Karamja)
I haven't been super into RS and have played off and on since around 07 or 08 I think, but between this, the area expansion, and necromamcy in RS3, I've been playing A LOT of Runescape lately. Mostly RS3, but I think I'm going to be playing more and more Old School soon. Very excited for sailing.
what started as a meme over a decade ago has become one of the most anticipated updates in osrs. really excited for this! edit: i am also excited to see what the lore can bring!
The hype is unreal. I am so excited and hopeful this will be a Runescape Renaissance of sorts. The game is doing alright now. Sailing will usher in a new era, ideally!! I feel like a kid again!

@@Ikayj All the changes that have occurred were not as extreme as adding a new skill. Additionally, I personally do not like the skill. I think it was a meme idea that Jagex now needs to try and turn into something worthwhile. I've watched the update videos for sailing and I cannot see a valid point in adding it as a skill to the game. If they are going to do something as drastic as adding the FIRST new skill to osrs in 9 years, it should be a skill that is worthwhile. I do not think sailing is it.
Definitely combine it with underused game aspects, like hunting as you mentioned. Consider having under used quests also aid the skill. Like if you have a thunderbird, somehow connect it to eagles nest.
Because this expands the way the entire game is played more than any skill before it, please allow f2p to have at least the lowest tier of access. It could draw a lot of new people to the game
Can someone confirm if sailing is going ahead? I've seen so many people saying it's not confirmed yet, but these videos are so in depth as if it's been in development for a while?
Coming back to OSRS since over 15 years now, it's great to see many new updates that enhances gameplay now with technology has granted us to do it via mobile and pc such as runelite.
I'm all for this, I just really hope they allow you to set your sailing destination through the world map or something when it comes to long voyages because I really don't want to have to constantly click the minimap to sail over large distances...
Maybe you could record a voyage and then have one of your crewmates follow the path automatically? That way you can just do it once and forget about it
@@johnnytee911 Because not only will you have to click the sail ever 10-30 sec to readjust it with the wind (to gain Sailing xp), but you'll also have other facilities on the ship you can use while you're moving. I would hate to have to constantly click to keep my ship moving on top of doing all of that too. I wouldn't even hate it if you click in a direction and your boat just constantly sailed in that direction until you interacted with an anchor or something to stop it, or at least be able to toggle between stopping at your clicked destination or continuing beyond it.
I feel like i just have so much PTSD from RS3 ports, that even thinking ab sailing makes me sick. It looks interesting, and based on the community, its happening if i want it or not... but it just seems like Ports for OSRS to me.
I love this game. I have full faith that no matter which skill was chosen or will be chosen in the future, the team will make it great. Thank you for an amazing game.
I haven’t actually played OSRS in a few years, but I still keep up with popular players and updates, and this looks amazing. Might even start playing again just to check it out, I hope this skill passes from what I’ve seen so far

Cool idea but I don't like how player boats are non-instanced. This will change the feel of OSRS just by seeing player boats/ships out in the water and I fear the game won't feel "old school" at all. Good concept, but I will be voting no on this skill. Old School Runescape is already pushing the boundaries of what updates are acceptable - and I feel that this skill will be the final nail to push the game into a point of "no return" with more updates that drive the game away from the original reason why it was polled to be reintroduced in the first place.
The point of no return has already been crossed many times over. Jagex just needs to release a vanilla 2007 world so that all the purists can stop spite voting no to everything. Also, it will finally shut up the purist argument when they realize a game that NEVER changes dies.

This is awesome. I'm so happy that someone is keeping the 2007 spirit alive and making sure we have a good game with soul, good gameplay, and no annoying microtransactions, absolutely love it!!! might even go back and play it again!! I never quit Runescape, I just take long breaks sometimes! xD LOVE YOU DEVS!!
As an old-school runescape player, this is interesting I like this idea and it's nice to bring some new content instead of just new raids n quests but please don't make it into RS3 again otherwise I'll have to quit for years again ahahah OSRS FTW
A cool idea would be your boat as a place to store resources before banking. Ex being on karamja and being able to fish/mine, wc and storing via boat and having larger capacity with level
im all in on the sea monster hunting, trawling, and dredging aspects, that's the exact kinda stuff i want to do with my ship. I also really like the procedural generated expeditions idea. would love to get into that. And i cant wait to meet the Tortugans i think that goes without saying.
Can we own multiple ships (store them in port for a fee perhaps)? I feel like it may be useful to own a couple of them that are set up for different purposes.
Are we going to see the return of the Sailors Hat? I loved that reward in Rs3 and would love to see it make a return in OSRS :) I think it’d make a great reward as a part of the skill. Thank you for the hard work and community engagement you’re putting into the skill!
I am actually shocked they made GREAT content, like, fantastic. The way they blend it with other skills without creating an excessive amount of items, this looks amazing and I'm very very excited. I just hope tho they reuse already existing music in the game, or they get a composer that can truly mimick the Runescape feel to it, since it's been an issue for me bc I feel fair amount of tracks from the Great Kourend expansion truly fit the game. Anyways, fantasting job, super super SUPER excited
