What is Shadow IT? 

Thank you IBM for educating us on the world of IT,cybersecurity and computing, I’ve never heard of shadow IT before so this will be interesting.

Thanks for this talk. I prefer shifting this subject to the term "unmanaged resources" rather than "shadow IT". "Shadow IT" sounds mysterious, suspicious, and maybe unable to be found rather than the simple fact that it's just "unmanaged resources" and that can just be moved into the "managed" category.

Excellent video by the IBM team and this young woman breaking down both the pros and cons.

Also known as Skunk Works IT… not very common today in global corporates but probably still knocking about in SME businesses with weak management leadership.

Ah, I've been used to call this "Guerilla IT", basicly because... there is usually a good intention of the usage for IT, but it's never done with a ... "grownup" and these solutions are usually made to fit a here-and-now usecase, but never made with the correct amount of security, scalability, adaptability or planned decomissioning. And because they're always made for those here-and-now workflows, they pose a giant risk of those workflows being basicly shut down if any of the main workers stop working at your company. I usually tell people if they have ANY form of doubt whether their new tool consist of ANY type of IT equipment, you 100% SHOULD include a member of your IT organization. And in regards to the 8-out-of-10 statistics likely is because the last 2 companies simply aren't aware of their Shadow IT solutions.

Shadow of IT is Shadow or Mordor. When you try to take the ring around but you are ment to use the eagles.
