What is Spin in Quantum Mechanics? - Part 1: Angular Momentum | Bohaz
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This comprehensive video on spin in quantum mechanics uncovers the underlying complexity of this fundamental concept. By delving into the symmetry of space and introducing ladder operators and the spectrum of angular momentum, the presenter sets the stage for a deeper exploration of spin. The analysis elucidates the implications of non-commutative angular momentum operators, highlighting the quantisation of angular momentum.
Part 2: The explanation of spin-1/2 objects and the introduction of Pauli matrices facilitate a clearer understanding of classical spin trajectories in the context of quantum mechanics. Through meticulous mathematical derivations and physical insights, the video offers a comprehensive view of the intricate relationship between classical and quantum interpretations of spin.

Stay tuned for part 2! In which we will recover the classical intuition of spin from quantum mechanics.

Check out part 2 for more intuition! Part 1 is mainly the maths.

at 11:21 the subtitles should write macroscopic instead of microscopic (he says it right the subtitles are wrong). I also don't think it is exactly right, , it is more like that these values don't have macroscopic meaning. In general phase does not have macroscopic meaning, it is only important in phenomena like quantum entanglement.

Thanks for the correction, I will correct the subtitles. Appologies for not being precise when I said spin-1/2 field do not obtain macroscopic value, the actual explanation would be a Fermi oscillator that governs Fermionic fields can either be excited or not excited at all, but a harmonic oscillator which governs Bosonic field can be highly excited. I have made a video on the topic of interpretation of the “phase” of the wave function in the video of “Probability current”. The gradient of phase gives the direction of probability current. Phase is very crucial part of wave function, without it, we will unable to recover a classical picture by interference of definite quantum states. 2:50 I'm pretty sure you're missing an hbar.

Natural unit is used and hbar has been set to 1 at 1:56, so it doesn’t appear in rest of the video.
