Sometimes getting poop out can be really difficult and you need a little help. For women, there can be a simple, albeit kind of different, solution. This is called splinting.
In today’s video we are going to talk about what splinting even is, if it’s safe to do, and how to help you feel more empty with bowel movements.
Have you been to pelvic floor PT before? Any tips you would like to share? Comment down below!

Autoimmune conditions can cause issues in the signals from the brain. My bladder and rectum sphincter muscles do not receive signals to push or relax. My doctors have never discussed this with me. I had to learn on my own, out of desperation how to have a bowel moment. I have felt shame for 20 years. I told my doctors, at every appointment, what I had to do to poop. They NEVER told me this was actually a thing, a way to actually do it correctly. I didn't get to see a therapist. Just hearing this being talked about is surreal. Maybe I can finally kick shame to the curb. Thank you

@tamarapace3036 You made my day as much as I think I made yours ❤️ Shame is exactly the right word and although my job is a “physical” therapist, I really know at the core that the emotional piece matters more. My patients come to me with their most vulnerable selves so afraid that they are weird or totally alone with their problems, and wrong for any solutions they have made and tried. The current medical model is well intended but does fail with connecting the body with the mind. I hope this helps you find the courage you need to talk to a pelvic floor PT in your area (go to pelvicrehab.com) and learn some more tricks!

I'm guessing my problem is caused by years of taking co codamol and iron medication. Being immobile and mostly bedbound and autoimmune illneses

Much gratitude to the good doctor for teaching about this. Magnesium oxide is also most helpful. You can start slow, add an extra pill daily (up to 6 or 7) until you're starting to experience loose stools, then begin to cut back until you figure out what's right for you. I now take just 1 a day, but, will take up to 3 if the day is a bit stressful. I had severe constipation for over 50 years, tried so many strategies, but didn't truly become 'normal' until I found out about Magnesium, especially Oxide.

My mom had 8 children. She told me that sooner or later I would need to use my thumb to help me 'finish' my bowel movement. I didn't believe her until I had my children. I never knew what it was called but I've been doing this for many, many years. I had rectocele surgery, it was supposed to take care of the issue. It didn't. I still have to use this to finish completely emptying my bowels...Thank you for letting me know that it's OK. Blessings.

I have had one child 8 1/2 pound boy and labour was a breeze. 1 and 1/2 hours to fully dilate and pain not as bad as some of my period pain. My mother also had silent labour. The problem I did have was pushing baby out, I had a shoulder dystocia, delivered the head several times while it turtled. When I was warned about distress to baby I thought bugger that this baby is getting out then. One massive push he was out, I had 4th degree tear and 1200 ml hemorrhage. It took 45 minutes to stitch me up after waiting an hour because the registrar was not confidant to do the suturing. If not for the pelvic floor physio providing exercises and ultrasound I think I would have a lot of problems today. I am continent, and I think my pelvic floor is strong. I rode horses for years and I wondered if that is known for strengthening the pelvic floor? Many of the muscles used to seat the saddle felt similar to the pelvic floor exercises. Thanks for your video, all women should know this stuff.

i dont know if your situation is by choice or not and that is none of my business, but if possible? ask at any local restaurants or large shopping centres, and in bad situations? get two plastic grocery bags. lay one flat, squat over it, do your business, fold it neatly over your deposit, and put that bag inside the clean one. dispose of at your nearest public bin. if your constipation is chronic you may need to take stool softeners for the first few. lube and baby wipes are your friends. if you can afford it? pet stores sell puppy pads that are super absorbant and theyve gotten me through extended periods of domestic abuse. good luck

So I have a “friend” who can’t seem to get her rectum to relax and open. As a result, the only time she can poop easily is when the poop is slightly hard, it can then force it’s way out when she bears down(pushes). Otherwise she literally has to use a gloved finger inserted INTO the rectum to hold it open while she pushes the poop out. She has tried laxatives in the past but they are ineffective. Literally the softer the poop is the harder it is to pass. This has been going on for years and she is really getting tired of it.

Of course! Worth a discussion but the uterus and vagina are two totally different things. You should still have complete access to your vaginal canal after a hysterectomy.
