I absolutely love your videos. They are extremely helpful when it comes to assimilating these theories. As tech evolves so does the way people learn. Sometimes reading information does not get processed the same way as a lecture does especially for newer generations. I am so happy that you are providing this information. An excellent use of RU-vid!
I'm studying for the LMHC licensing exam and I've been really struggling to understand the difference between structural and strategic family therapy. Your teaching is really helping me to finally understand and retain the theories - I'm so grateful! Thank you for sharing your work and improving our field.
I’ve been panicking daily about remembering theories and desperately searched for a way to understand and your video is finally giving me the knowledge I need! This is the first time I’m feeling peace in days, thank you!!
What most people don't know is that almost of them were students of Milton Erickson. Shall mention some of them: Hayley, Weakland, Minuchin, Watzlawick, Including Bateson and Steve deShazer and Insoo Kim Berg, Rossi and so on . How did the name Double Bind came from? It came from Erickson as he had been using bind and double binds for couple of decades. Strategic and Solution focused brief therapy are both extentions of Milton Erickson work. For those that don't know. Erickson is the most studied and written about psychotherapist of all time. He is also the most effective and efficient therapist of all time. Also has more documented case studies than anyone else. To this day no other therapist has contributed in so many areas of psychiatry and psychotherapy in the past century. I recommend Erickson and want you that no matter how skilled and educated you are studying Erickson would be the challenge of your career. Objectively speaking. P.s also Cloe Madanes. It's overwhelming, isn't it. Erickson also had deep and profound relationship with Aldus Huxley
Thanks buddy thanks bud thanks for the invite I love it I hope you have had fun today I hope you have had had fun today I hope you have a good good weekend love and and hope to you have some fun today thanks r
I appreciate your examples of the interventions but I have a questions in regards to the paradoxical and positioning intervention. How can we know if the family may be appropriate for this intervention? Is it more intuitive or is there a criteria? You mentioned that this can quickly go amiss with families because it can spark up a lot of tension that can potentially lead to violence so I just want to know what families we can implement this intervention to. I also have a concern when implementing positioning. You also mentioned that with this intervention you are exaggerating the symptoms. With the example that you gave couldn’t it potentially go amiss as well? Lets use your example, you said “ yeah, when you guys are arguing because you hate each other” the goal is to stop and make them realize that their problem is not as big as it seems. My problem with this is well what happens if they get into a huge argument and the statement you mentioned “because you hate each other” come back into mind and they trick themselves into thinking, “wait I think I may actually hate my partner”. We then now have another problem of resolving these new feelings. I only thought of this because I thought of a person who may potentially have BPD who’s feelings are a bit more unregulated if it is not being treated let alone not diagnosed therefore not receiving treatment.
I feel like I won't be considered an adult until I am independent again or until I identify with having increased responsibility such as child rearing.
I started my journey at NCU because of you. Thank you for helping me finally decide on a path. This video helped me with my current studies in my class. The explanations really help me grasp this concept. Please keep posting and Thank you !
Seriously watching this was a breath of fresh air. All praises to the Father. 🙌🏾. It's funny because one of my course resources was your video. My school (NCU) had your video linked as a recommendation to watch for my assignment. I am so thankful for that. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain each model!! 😊
Love your videos ! They have been super helpful as I am preparing for my exam! Could you do a video on helpful tips on how to answer ethics questions on the MFT exam?
Steph can you cover MRI therapy? I love your videos, I am a current masters degree student and I am so thankful for your videos before and after reading my text books. You make it easy to understand! Thanks for the blessing!
Thank you, Steph Anya. I am in a human services class right now and I am writing a paper with a scenario being a 17-year-old female having problems after her parent's divorce and they remarry. I have to give my initial thoughts and do an assessment of the case providing therapy that I think would work for the given situation. Thank you for explaining this in detail. I FINALLY understand it. The lecture they gave this week was pretty vague as far as what it all means. I will continue to watch your videos and learn more. I want to become an affective chemical dependency counselor. This will help me so much. Have a great weekend.
An example of 1st and 2nd order change: The problem--my garden hose is leaking. Ist order change=I tape it. It does not leak for 3 months and then starts leaking again. I tape it. It does not leak for 3 months and then starts leaking again. I tape it. It does not leak for 3 months and then starts leaking again. 2nd order change= I buy a new hose.
I need help! Been talking to this guy and we get along great we have a lot of chemistry and flirt constantly only problem is due to these face masks I didn’t get a chance to see what he looked like before but today I saw and sadly wasn’t attracted to him at all! I never thought of myself to care about looks or have that affect of I feel but shockingly it has alittle. I’m now nervous to try and pursue a relationship with him he great I love talking to him it’s the highlight of my day but sadly just not physical attracted to him. Anyone have any thoughts that could be helpful in this situation?
I am working on becoming a LMFT in the state of Hawaii. How do you find a internship to get the required hours for licensure? Any advice you could share? -Heather
Thanks for this video- it was helpful- also just letting you know there’s a couple slides you’re using that say “structural” instead of strategic- not sure if that is intentional? Best wishes
You are so so cute. And your videos are so helpful. I just wanted you to know that you are helping me through grad school thank you thank you thank you!!!!
What are the best resources / books / notes to study this? If we can get more information and translate it to multiple languages, that will help the wolrd be a better place each day. Could you please let me know if anyone wants to join a group on this? Is there anything existing?
Watching your videos is giving me the courage that I need to think about taking the licensure exam once again. I have worked in the field for over twenty years facilitating groups for domestic violence and other related jobs that do not require a license. I am a person who has worked through many challenges and it is my lifelong to get my LMFT. You are amazing, thank you so much! Rosanne
Can u please talk about functional family therapy? I used to work with an agency that used this model but instead of it being used for low risk cases it was mostly used on children of SA situations which I had a big issue with
I love, love, love your videos! I often find them more helpful to my personal understanding of the material than the textbooks and the lesson videos assigned in my classes. Awesome job! Keep 'em coming!
Idk if you're aware of the horrific ads that are playing before your video, but I was just subjected to one that was misogynistic, claiming female therapists and female clients are the issues in counseling and that marriage counselors and counseling are not useful and are a waste of peoples time and money. They also stated that counseling in fact harms individuals and relationships further. The videos "pitch" (done by and older white man, no surprise) was for an 8 step buy in program to "fix" women in relationships and ultimately a marriage. As a person going through a LMHC program, it was disturbing. Just wanted to make you aware.
I'm curious what an "older white man" has to do with anything. It was someone (a human) who did the commercial expressing their beliefs and thoughts (focus on the message). As a future lmhc, you might want to check biases and do your own inner work prior to you beginning to see clients as you never know who will walk into your office as a client that needs compassion versus judgement.
Can you review some of my favorite TV show style marriages like " Everybody loves Raymond" and "Modern Family" " King of Queens," Sister Wives,"Married to Medicine", "Army wives"?
Thank you so much for explaining it so well. I was struggling to differentiate between family therapies for my upcoming LMHC exam but after watching your videos, I am more confident about these topics. Thank you.
Your videos are great. They are helping me tremendously. Is it possible to do a video on Tomm's IPScope? I am absolutely confused about this therapy model. Again, thank you for the videos.
I found your channel studying for my social work licensure exam. So well done! All the videos are clear & helpful. You give a good amount of info, enough that I actually learn something but not so much that it's overwhelming. And you make it fun/engaging while still getting to the point of what we need to know. Thanks so much ☺
Thank you so much for posting these videos. I'm prepping for my (undergrad) MFT end semester exams and these videos make information easily digestible.
any chance in getting a talk on Object Relations (Framo)? It seems like the most neglected in many grad schools and on RU-vid, but the most complex. Thank you so much for all of your models. Studying for my exam.
What an excellent video! Thank you so much for your help and wisdom. Came across this while studying for my LCSW exam and it has made such a significant difference.
I’m interning right now and was just assigned my first family. I’m so nervous, this video is so helpful because the books are soo dull and makes it hard for me to focus 😭
I AM SO happy, my professor told me to watch this video,, I am presently working as a therapist, and in school to get my second masters degree. I love the ideas of family therapy,
Thanks so much for these videos! I'm prepping for my comp exam for my masters program and I was really struggling to separate strategic and structural family therapy in my head!
