I’m graduating with my Masters in Counseling in several months. Your videos are the BEST I’ve seen. Hands down. Wish I had known about you since Day 1. 💗
I am currently studying for my MFT exam and prepping to teach intro to MFT in the spring. I can't tell you how much these videos are helping me! Thank you so incredibly much!
I do hope at some point you go on to teach in some capacity! These videos have helped so much is preparing for the exam in ways I didn’t get in my own program. You break things down and explain in a way that actually makes sense. Thanks for what you do!!
Hi Steph! Truly can’t thank u enough for your videos. So my question is, how do you know which model to use for each client? Do you use the same model for the entirety of treatment or pull from several ?
Echoing what Jason replied. Most clinicians tend to pull from a variety of models, usually finding one they align with and stick closest to but still pulling from others
The whole seminar and visualization techniques were amazing, we had to set goals picture goals, to set a scene see ourselves in this scene and how we would like to interact with all around us
Please become a professor! I strongly believe your PhD program needs to be paid for! You’ve been so helpful and teach in a way where I can grasp the concepts and not fall asleep!
I am currently taking my MFT exam on October 21 and I am using your videos to help me understand theories. Thank you SO much!!! It can be overwhelming to try to understand all of this information. When I read , it just all runs together but your videos helps make sense of it all.
Hi Steph Anya! Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us. I was wondering if there are any books on Satir's Experiential Model of Family Therapy that you would recommend for those of us in school who have just been introduced to this model and would like to learn more? - Willow
Postmodernism is a scourge on family therapy, thanks goodness we have models like this and others from before postmodernism started eroding and destroying family therapy.
Hey there! I love your content. Do you have any suggestions for movies or tv shows that include diverse people and family configurations (e.g., single family, non-monogamous, grandparents raising grandkids) alot of the recommendations I get show more "traditional" or "nuclear" families. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you
This is phenomenal! I am so glad I came across your channel. You have a gift for explaining complex constructs in a way that is easy to understand and digest! Bravo!!!
Excellent, just about to write about experiential Fam. Th., you have given me the basis of my assignment. So clear and direct. Fantastic. Thanks. Would love to hear you on the topic of Lifespan development. Thanks.
Hello Steph, I’m really considering becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. What online school would you recommend for my Master’s degree? Thank you.
This is my first video of yours that I have come across. Wonderful explanation of the model, it has been very helpful! I am so glad I found your channel and I'm looking forward to watching your other videos! :)
In my first year of grad school for MFT and I've been watching your videos almost every week before my Theories class so I can feel prepared. My whole cohort has found this playlist SO helpful for understanding the therapeutic models. Thank you thank you thank you! - MFT's in training in NH!
Thank you so much for your video! I’m a student about to apply for grad school and are trying to understand the theories. Yours help loads! Thanks again!
I met v.satir 40 years ago in athens,in marathon 3 days workshop. She slowed how projection works, it was amazing. She asked us to close our eyes move for 2,3 minutes into the room we were and touch the person standing in front of us keeping our eyes closed. Finally we had to open our eyes and tell Express the feelings we had of the person standing just in front of us. This unknown person made me feeling uncomfortable, she reminded my mother's best friend who was critical and narrow minded, she was no educated, living in a village at the time, while the lady was a psychiatrist living in Athens the capital of Greece
The way you just gave the best high-level overview of this theory is giving... that I need for you to be a professor (if you are not already). Thank you!
Out of curiosity has anyone found anything discussing why she never fixed any of her issues with her own family. One of her biggest points in her theory is communication but she cutoff most of her family. Even adopted children
I really enjoy your channel what is the book that you stated that you often refer to for understanding your models used? You mentioned the book in a video before but I cannot remember which video.
You just make things easier for me to understand. We are blessed to have someone like. You might as well consider lecturing in one of the colleges or universities.
Thank you so much for your model reviews! They are getting me through my Family and Community Systems course! I'm in my first year of my master's in counselling psychology. I have a request for a model review of Emotion Focused Family Therapy. I am hoping to use it in my internship and would love to know more about it in video format. Thanks! :)
I love this ! I love your videos!!! As I am in the early phases of my masters as an MFT I really appreciate this info! Also I mentioned in another comment I am a serious fan girl of Virginia Satir lol! I love you highlighting her contributions to our field. She was truly ahead of her time and I think she did so much to usher in a lot of the post modernists concepts we have today . In my humble opinion I think experiential theory helps us enact peace in the world through our field and that is a revolution! Keep on shining !🥰
You mean toxic, as in toxic masculinity while forgetting the toxic misandry. right? Yeah. Satir is too dated and was ridiculous then. She is celebrated, but slightly dusty and woke before her time. The basics may work, but her approach was largely feministic and did not exactly taking into consideration men and their story--if at all. The dated nature of her work rest largely on the times in which it was developed where egalitarianism was more traditional. By today's standards Satir's experiential modeling would have to calculate how to compete with the lack of marriages, the iPhone addiction, pornography addiction, social media influences, etc. Beyond that, feminism has done such a good job at dividing men and women, experimentalism resembles a boxing match of words.
