Notes
-To be clear, the blessings of the gospel and promise of a future Savior were not totally unique to Abraham. These promises were really renewed with Abraham. These promises existed from the time of Adam and were renewed lineally among the first-born sons of Adam. Abraham’s idolatrous father was not one of these great patriarchs. In other words, Abraham was never “in line” to receive these blessings, but was chosen anyway. In the Book of Abraham we read,
“...finding there was greater happiness and peace and rest for me, I sought for the blessings of the fathers, and the right whereunto I should be ordained to administer the same; having been myself a follower of righteousness … I became a rightful heir, a High Priest, holding the right belonging to the fathers.”
Just as the Melchizedek Priesthood is not technically Melchizedek’s priesthood (it’s God’s priesthood), the Abrahamic Covenant is not just Abraham’s covenant. The Covenant is simply known as “Abraham’s.”

I used this video when I was leading my BYU-Pathway discussion on the Abrahamic Covenant. I have several classmates who are new converts and this video included many of the scriptures that were provided in the lesson. This helped to give everyone a great overview of the material, and provided a foundation for them to go back and read the assigned passages (which can get tough when you try to do it all at once) Thanks so much.

Gentiles were still Israelites, they were generally the uncircumcised of Israel, lost tribes. Infact Paul went to preach to all 12 tribes as he mentioned that was his mission statement to King Agrippa in the book of Acts. The Abrahamic covenent was fulfilled to the scattered children of Israel and a portion of Judah, as God promised in the old testament he would bring both houses of Israel together under one fold. That's what happened with the Europeans if you trace their migrations over the past few thousand years. Isaiah said to the Israelites to spread out far and wide during their captivity, and to absorb the Nations as they dispersed. This is what happened within Europe. The Europeans are the ones who spread the gospel and built up Christendom. Gentile comes from a Latin word Gentillis, which means of the same stock, clan tribe or race... but was typially applied to Heathens (non circumsed). This word was never used in any manuscipts but always added contextually by the scribes to replace 'Ethnos' in Greek which typicall means Nations. Israel didn't reject Christ, the new covenent was fulfilled just as God said it would be... The Jews who were the builders rejected the corner stone, but not all as we know James wrote to all twelve tribes in dispersion. Jew is derived from the Word Judah but grew to become more associated with someone who was circumsised and practice Judaism (which is not the same religion as the original Hebrews), there were many proselytes (foreign converts) so not even all Jews are Judahites. Moses was not a Jew, Abraham was not a Jew. They were Hebrews though. The Abrahamic covenent still stands to his seed only, although salvation is to all of Adam... but the covenent is for no other people, as it was not promised to any other people. So many false doctrines consistently repeated off the back of poor language translation and understanding.

@@saludanite Well.. the term Ethos and Goy means Nations yes. But Gentiles where applied is a latin word for 'of the same clan, tribe or race'. Gentiles was applied contextually, to make us know which Nations were being referred to... the kindred nations.

Was Abraham’s use of Hagar as a slave for making babies morally justified?

@@allieooop3923: Slavery is morally reprehensible. Sex slavery even more so. And, I ask, because Abraham is held to be one of the good guys in the Bible, but, like most biblical characters, he’s got a real shady side. @@allieooop3923: You mean in answer to my above question? In my view, sex slavery and murdering children are both immoral to a degree that I probably wouldn’t choose an instrument that practiced either. To answer succinctly, I’d say the repetition of immoral behavior inherent in prolonged sex slavery probably outweighs a one-time act, even something as ultimate as killing a child. If faced with death or a lifetime of sex slavery, I’d personally choose death. Maybe I’m just a stick in the mud.
@seans5289
@seans5289 3 года назад
@@allieooop3923: Sorry, RU-vid didn’t notify me of your reply. So, it seems like you’re saying my choosing death over slavery is analogous to the Canaanite people wiped out in the Old Testament. If we flesh this analogy out, though, my options as a sex slave would be pretty limited. If I had a chance to escape, I would choose that over death, but effective slave owners are pretty careful not to let their slaves escape. That said, if I were a soldier sent to battle a group of people engaging in sex slavery, I would then choose to release the sex slaves, especially children, rather than kill them. Isn’t that what you would do?
@seans5289
@seans5289 3 года назад
@@allieooop3923: Before I respond, I realize I didn’t answer your question about using sex-slavers as instruments. I was referring to the god of the Old Testament knowingly choosing as his mortal instrument or a person who kept and abused a sex slave. It seems unlikely that there were no other viable options on earth. I object to immorality, which I would loosely define as undue harm or an imposition of will. Sex slavery, any other slavery, child sacrifices, animal sacrifices, etc. all qualify as immoral by that loose definition. Group sex and incest-assuming proper consent-are not practices that I would call immoral, since nobody is harmed or has their will imposed upon. That said, I wouldn’t consider the biblical solution of killing every man, woman, and child in a community that engages in these practices. That would be an immoral solution to an immorality problem. We can do better.

When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30 NET bible.com/bible/107/jhn.19.30.NET I have to bring to light my dear brothers and sisters that our Lord Jesus Christ completed everything on the cross. Joseph Smith did not do anything or add anything at all. Our Lord Jesus Christ removes all sin as far as the east is to the west, for it is finished, done, signed, and sealed because of the blood of Jesus. But even if we (or an angel from heaven) should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be condemned to hell! As we have said before, and now I say again, if any one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be condemned to hell! As per the video, different lands have been promised to different people at different times. I think this promise has been adapted to the needs and circumstances of the people over time. The ancient promise of the land of Canaan for Israel gets sticky in modern times because the sheer number of people who are literal descendants of Israel to some degree today would be a whole heck of a lot more people than could possibly fit in "Canaan". OK! I had to listen through this in order to see what the problem here was. In a nutshell, it's the same problem that the JEWS had when Jesus commissioned His apostles. The JEWS didn't accept the Gentiles in the "great commission" of Mt 28 and Acts 2.29-39 We see this initially in Acts 15, and it get's resolved in the Jerusalem church's council by James. Paul had been commissioned (Acts 9) to take the "gospel" to the Gentiles (so were the other12!) But the JEWS fell back on this "Abrahamic Covenant" (Gen 17) with it's "sign" of circumcision. Paul, however, explains that Abraham didn't receive a "covenant" in Genesis 15, but a "promise". (He states this clearly in Galatians 3; actually, and in Romans 11 even more clearly.) This SAME premise appears for Roman Church that Paul addressed in Romans 1.16-17. - "to the Jew first, and also the Gentile." - But this Catholic Church ignored the "revelation" to Paul from Jesus, and proceeded to institute an "unauthorized" priesthood into ITS foundation. Not to be outdone, 16th cen. ex-Catholic Martin Luther "made-up" a syllogism, "by faith ALONE," and added still more confusion to what the Jews had claimed; Joseph Smith got an earful of it! We are STILL getting it today, in 2021. It's STILL wrong! When we are baptized INTO Jesus Christ, we are baptized into His death; we DIE with Christ - Romans chapters 6, 7, and 8. There aren't any priests! We are IN CHRIST and His Spirit in us! The Catholic Church ignores all of this, and so do the Protestants. But nothing has been changed by God Himself, whatever any man does. Jesus said that we must be born again - of water and of Spirit - just like HE was. John the Baptist didn't even understand - but Jesus did! We enter - through Christ - into the redemption of the world. and - the end of the Age is already upon us! The Abraham Covenant, according to the Bible never mentions the Priesthood. This must be another addition of a man-made doctrine by Joseph Smith. The Abraham Covenant was a demonstration of the great love between God and Abraham. There is nothing said about the Priesthood in Abrahams's Covenants. The priesthood was never intended to last forever, the death of Christ ended the Mosaic Priesthood, Jesus Christ was made the High Priest, Jesus made the final sacrifice for us. He secured eternal redemption. As Paul has written, For there is one God and there is one mediator between God and men, who is Jesus Christ. Jesus is our Priest!!
@stephenbrown2085
@stephenbrown2085 11 месяцев назад
The Mosaic (Levitical) Priesthood was replaced by the Melchizedek Priesthood. This is the priesthood that is being spoken of in regard to Abraham, for it was Melchizedek that gave him bread and wine (symbols of the NT Passover).
