MI5 indicate targets of different priorities. Dangerous targets are marked for death. Others could be of the wrong party and are under surveillance and others are put out of action by bankruptcy, the divorce courts, prison or mental homes. MI5 is inside the UK, MI6 is everywhere, in the USA, you could be sitting next to an MI6 agent who’s looking over your shoulder on the subway, walking past your home, you wouldn’t know one if you spotted them, only if they felt you could be a threat or could locate a threat to King and Country.

Basically the 00 for MI6 is essentially the best they have, so yes there would be a 007 out there just not what we see in movies, I believe currently it goes from 001 to 019.

There were also many other mi sections, 4 was responsible for maps and 9 was to help allied troops behind enemy lines in ww2. All disbanded except 5 and 6 now
My auntie in fact works with both of these, not necessarily specifically with them but her job is basically to train others and teach them for interviews to then join either one or other national security agency in the UK I think.

If you're American, or at least a bit familar with FBI and CIA then MI5=FBI and MI6=CIA. Of course each agency isn't the exact same but they have similar concepts.
