The anti life equation is an equation that proves that all hope, love and basically all things good have no meaning and are completely pointless, destroying the person’s free will as a result. Really sad that when Tim Drake heard the equation he said that “there wasn’t much of it he disagreed with”.

Anti-life equation: "Subjugate the souls of all beings in the universe." Life equation: "Control all sentient life in the universe." I don't quite see how they are different, much less polar oppostes.

Let's call the group of divided terms the "Belittlement Term." 3) And what's the multiplied factor? 4 terms here multiplied together: Guilt, Shame, Failure, and Judgement. These terms multiplied with the summed "tragic" term make it...bigger. And when I read them together, it all sounds...damning. The "Damnation Term" then. So now we have a simplified version of our equation using our new term names: *Anti-Life Equation = (The Tragic Term) / (The Belittlement Term) x (The Damnation Term)* In plain English, the equation seems to suggest: *"Tragedy is minimized by belittlement, and is maximized by damnation."* That is...astonishingly true...I need a hug. so the life equation and anti-life equation are pretty much the same thing, total mind control, right? only big difference between them is HOW they control your mind. that's what i've gathered from the video at least.

The reason why Darkseid is so obsessed over the Anti-Life Equation is because it would quite literally give him absolute dominion over the universe. Darkseid considers himself to be a living god of destruction and conquest (and to be fair, he does live up to that boast), but as long as people have hope, they will never stop fighting against him. Even if he were to crush all outward opposition with his brute power and ability to spread fear, he would never be able to control their mind or free will, leading to rebellions that could potentially overthrow him. So, if he were to ever gain the Anti-Life Equation, he would erase even the concept of free will and hope in the universe and thus end the slightest chance of rebelling against his authority.

Anti Life Equation is opposite the life equation and has been defined a few ways depending on the writer involving it in the comics. Multiple comic book writers speaking of the anti life equation has their own definition of it. In the form of an actual equation it’s been said to be: loneliness + alienation + fear + despair + self-worth ÷ mockery ÷ condemnation ÷ misunderstanding × guilt × shame × failure × judgment n=y where y=hope and n=folly, love=lies, life=death, self=dark side By speaking said equation, Darkseid can insert the full formula into people's minds, giving them the mathematical certainty that life, hope and freedom are all pointless and meaningless.

I am a bit confused. The Anti-Life equation is a equation. You talk about it like it is a weapon you can possess like a sword or a gun. The Anti-Life equation must be something you know, not something you possess. Or am I completely wrong here? (I am just confused about the way Arris talks about the AL-Equation)

To those who need a bit of clarity the life equations are symbols of the emotional spectrum. Similar to how the lantern corps powers are based off of emotion Green lanterns are powered by will Red lanterns are powered by anger Blue lanterns are powered by hope Yellow lanterns harness the power of fear etc The life equation harnesses the power of all positive emotions with its base being the freedom of choice Concurrently the Anti life equation harnesses the power of negative emotions to strip a being of its freedom of choice therefore subjugating a being to the will of the holder of the anti life equation Making Darkseid the most powerful villain since he can literally control the minds of his victims. The anti-life equation is yet another example of a writers' self indulgent in-trick - it effectively gives characters the powers of the writers much like the Beyonder is the omnipotence of the writers embodied in a character - it/they is/are the writers. The in-fact that the writers like to remind us of from time to time is that no matter how powerful their characters are they are only such because they, the writers, make them so and they are the real power in comics universes.

In the original Forever People series , it was revealed that a person named Sonny Sumo had the Anti-Life equation , after realizing the power & danger of it he was sent back in time so no one could have it. When he died , supposedly the equation died with him.

Ok I'll explain the anti life equation: Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.
