Do we count Togetic/Togekiss? Probably not. Then Azumarill, Umbreon, Murkrow, Scizor, Tyranitar, Porygon 2, Smeargle, Hitmontop, Lugia, and Entei are the only viable pokemon from that gen. Exactly 10, guess all we need to know is what order they're in.
Casuals and VGC players alike are confused by the thumbnail. Casuals are wondering why an unevolved mon with less than a 400 BST is number one. VGC players wonder why Mewtwo is legally allowed within 50 feet of the podium. Both absolutely agree with Charizard being there though.

Unironically quiver dance is such a broken move it's made like half a dozen different bug types viable in some format or another. Tinted lens means you only need one attacking move to hit most things for neutral, so an awful offensive typing doesn't matter nearly as much and you can dedicate the second attack slot to rage powder, roost, tailwind, toxic, etc. It's stats still suck tho lol

@@minimunch7 yeah, tbh i find it very hard to remember which pokemon are gen 2 because so many of them got new evolutions in later gens… and most of the ones that didnt are pretty forgettable… i totally forgot ttar was gen 2 also
I think one major thing missing is Honorable Mentions for this video. I had a few Pokémon in mind for this video that weren’t mentioned and I figured it would’ve been nice to have seen them get a shoutout. Fun video overall though!
I hope not. Do you realise how broken the new mons would have to be? So many mons would be unusable. Why even have half the pokedex if only quarter, if barely, would be viable
@@rudranshsharma6639 makes sense. I don’t play competitively that much nor am I very good, but it feels like I’ve seen it a lot over the years. Maybe it’s just a matter of popularity as opposed to viability
I think Mega Kengaskon was the first time I started looking more into competitive. It sounded so funny for them to be strong and when I learned why, it just sounded like an INSANE balancing move
Ma boy Sceptile deserves some more love, I guess i'll take my third favorite being competitive pokemon players PTSD (Haha funny intimidate cat go brrrr)

This was such a great list! But I’m a bit surprised there wasn’t an honorable mentions section for Butterfree, Raichu, Ninetales, Golduck, Weezing, Taurus, Lapras, Ditto, Articuno, and Dragonite. They’ve definitely all had formats they’ve either shined in or had niche roles in. But I def agree with your top 10 picks!
I know Wolfey predominantly focuses on the doubles/VGC format, but, especially for singles, I think Ninetales deserves a mention. The utility it provided setting up sun or hail, depending on its form, cannot be overstated. The youngsters may not know this, but Gen 5 was essentially a weather war- ninetales being the only sun setter (besides Groudon) yes, maybe it’s outclassed by Torkoal in the current meta, but I would definitely consider it one of the most influential Gen 1 Pokémon in competitive history. Don’t even get me started on how much of a facilitator Aurora Veil Alolan ninetales was//is
@@leftistdegeneratejs ninetales' ranking is indicative of sun's place in the metagame there have been points where sun has been very broken At the start of bw2 it had access to Genesect, Dugtrio, and Chlorophyll. All three have since been banned, leaving sun close to completely unviable.

@@sktima In VGC, using your mega slot on a box legendary was a huge commitment, and even in VGC 2016 and 2019, teams more frequently got more value out of megas like Kangaskhan and Salamence while also having two box legendaries. Rayquaza was still excellent, but not indisputably the best, though it did end up winning 2016 Worlds. Didn't make the finals in 2019, though. Across the five formats they've been legal, the best mega is probably Salamence.

What do you mean? Dragonite sucked in every single format that wasn't SV and was totally outclassed by Mega Salamence and Mega Rayquaza whom have the exact same typing
You need to remember that Wolfey only covers doubles when he says best ever. By totally ignoring singles format, he's free to leave out contenders like Dragonite and Heracross (from his recent best bug types video)
It only started to get decent with dual wingbeat, and only got decent play with tera normal. It can't carry tera anymore, since there are much better candidates in reg e, f and g. It has a good ability, especially with roost in its moveset to reset it, but that isn't enough to push it over the edge into being one of the top 10. It lacks utility and stats.
I run a stalling Espathra which switches into Mewtwo on Smogon Singles. I get loads of KOs. (P.S. I love that the Mewtwo in the thumbnail was SHINY! Radioactive Mewtwo is the best!) Update: NOOO HE REMOVED THE SHINY
Would be cool to see this for every region so far, then a video putting the number 1 from each region against each other. Of course Incineroar would probably win, but I still think it would be a fun and interesting video!

It's kind of funny how I have never been into playing competitive Pokémon myself, but somehow I learned about mega kangaskhan being op from somewhere. I played and won couple online matches with them back in the day. One of the only mons I ever EV trained if I remember correctly.
This was a very fun kind of video that I don't I've ever seen before. I won't lie though: I was kinda expecting Dragonite to be on this list because of things like Multiscale and Tera Normal E-Speed but you still did well!
I generally enjoy the format of all your videos, but I especially like the scripting of this one, as well as What Is The Best Bug Type Pokemon Competitively! The delivery almost feels off the cuff, like analysis in real time sort of. Keep up the good work, everyone!

I would have loved to see an "honorable mentions" section to these videos, when the pickings are so tight! Obviously it would have spoiled the mewtwo bit, but you could place it between #2 and #1 potentially? Anyway I'm not an editor, and yours did fantastically this video. Hey Wolfe, loved the video, (as always.) I love the influence of the list based on double battle competitive format. I am curious how much the list could change from a singles battle outlook. I know singles is not the competitive format but I always found it so interesting of well a Pokemon like Clefairy would be in a double battle vs being mediocre in a singles battle. I'd love to know your thoughts!
For singles False Swipe Gaming has tons of good videos about it. Wolfey has done a few videos before comparing singles + doubles mons as well, he had one with PokeaimMD last gen where they discussed mons good in either and not the other
After watching the Snorlax tournament wideo in reg F I made an ursaluna team with the same moves and Tera type (evs slightly different but hit the same stat marks as Snorlax) and it absolutely popped iff
