Thanks for making this video I agree with most everything you said. Just wanted to point out that as with every type of roofing system, you get what you pay for. Quality of material plus the craftsmanship or skill of the installer makes all the difference. Saving a dime today will cost you a dollar tomorrow
I have been doing torch down since the mid 80's. I can tell you today's torch down matirials , don't compare to what it used to be. So since the mid 90's I install a two ply system. One smooth then cover with a granulated torch. This way I can insure my custamer is getting a 25 year system.
Agreed. Mod Bit used to be a good reliable system but what we used now only looks like the old stuff. It doesnt last as ling or go down as easy. Once upon a time it was my second favorite flat option. Now its on the list sure, somewhere between TPO and the dumpster.
we used euro roof back in the early 1981 smooth colour bronze DERIGUM 4mm torch on good stuff polyester modified, the under lay was unique the material is not as good as back in the day, to much competing manufacturers now,
I am building a patio cover around my home that will be about 12 feet wide and go around about 3/4 of my home. It will be attached to a header beam against my home and have a small pitch out to another post and beam. What do you suggest for roofing?
PIB is the best flat roofing system in the world proven fact and the oldest take you to jobs we done 45yr ago pvc is better system esp the lead grey than tpo my opinion, word of warning wear mask when hot air welding or you could be on meds and oxygen like me, just thought ad mention about the health issues, plastic fumes and solvents destroy your lungs, and hospital bills are very expensive over there
Got a question have 9/12 asphalt shingle to a 0 pitch which flat roofing would be the best it has a membrane but it’s leaking but I took 20 years that’s pretty good for a flat roof right should I swap material what would you or anyone recommend
A modified torch roof can last around 20-30 years. They have a similar life expectancy as asphalt shingle. I would recommend having a roof inspection around 10-15 years. A roof tune up can help extend lifespan. (Re-sealing plumbing boots, vents, exposed nails, etc.) With maintenance we recommend making sure the roof has no leaves, branches, or debris laying around. Cleaning out any gutters. Having proper repairs done as soon as you notice any leaks.
Thanks for the information explaining the different types of roofing .Do you know anything about the older Intec flex- 190 rolled roofing ?Cant find much information on it I have two rolls of it and possibly want to use it on a small 14 by 4 flatroof. regards Glenn
HHH.for the base of a flat roof,do you recommend me to use peel and stick rolls?.I’m an automotive mechanic, but I’m planning to do my self the roof of my building.
What about 100% reinforced concrete flat roofs about 8 inches thick? I want to use my 2nd floor roof as an outdoor deck. I really want an Okinawa style modern concrete home here in Florida.
