I love my waterrower. I get that people who are actual rowers seem to much prefer the C2, but for me who just uses it for fitness, I think it is great. I put it up against the wall in my office where the ash looks great with the light oak that I have for the doors, trim, desk, etc. I move my desk chair out of the way and nose it right into the desk (where I have 3 computer monitors and a TV mounted on the wall) when I use it. It is nice and quiet so I can watch TV while getting in my workout. If I should have to use my computer then I can straddle the water tank and sit on the piece of wood over the tank and do some work at my desk, but though usable, it isn't all that comfortable, so I am definitely encouraged to either get on with my workout or put it away. I do need to be a little careful with the lights on my ceiling fan when standing it up as it is above them. If I was tall enough to need the extended length rails then I would need to be really careful because it would hit the fan blades.

I have a C2 Model at home. It is now 10 years old. The only maintenance that I have had to do is the routine maintenance as described in the manual of keeping it clean and oiling the chain. My C2 is mounted on sliders, which takes it even closer to rowing on water. Other than that, last year, I upgraded its monitor from the original PM4 to the wireless Ant+, Bluetooth enable PM5. This allows me to easily use C2’s ErgData app on my iPhone (it is also available for Android), which together gives me a lot of data for tracking analyzing my workouts. As you may gather I am very happy with my Concept2 and believe that in the long run, it is well worth its cost. Further, their is a large community of users, activities and videos out there to help with your training and motivational needs. It is not only a big dog, it is the alpha dog. Though as mentioned, its major benefit comes from you using it consistently.

I know that your channel is bound to be somewhat biased towards rowing, but I'd like to ask a question. For a person just looking to improve general fitness, which exercise machine would be the most efficient? A rowing machine (Concept2/Skillrow) or an Airdyne style bicycle? The gym I'm going to now has the Skillrow as well as a variety of Airdyne bikes. I'll probably give both a go, but I thought I'd ask your opinion anyway. Cheers.
@monkeyb1820
@monkeyb1820 3 года назад
I've read that airdyne bikes are a good workout. Tbh, it's whatever you feel motivated to use and stick with. My main thing with the c2 is that I need tougher glutes b/c after 10 minutes or so, it gets uncomfy on my butt, but I think this would be the case with any rower.

If you're a rower there's nothing other than a concept 2, however some universities and national squads use the RP3s (row perfect 3) ergs however they wouldn't be suited to gym/home workouts at all only for where they are right now. The water rower is a fantastic alternative for those who want to get fit, but I wouldn't bother with it if your seriously thinking about taking up rowing, even if it's just a side hobby, it will mess up your technique for when you get on a proper rowing machine!
@bucknut2000
@bucknut2000 4 года назад
how would the water rower mess up technique. I used to be in a rowing league for a few years for fun and I want to get a rowing machine. ive used the concept2 many times, I thought the water rower might simulate the feeling of being on the water more but, I never considerd technique.
@jackhalsall3908
@jackhalsall3908 4 года назад
@@bucknut2000 the water rower defainetly has its place, don't get me wrong, but it's not for those who want to go into competitive rowing, the feeling of the catch and drive on a concept is far superior to that of a water rower (even though it is with water). I've only been on a water rower a few times and all were for very short periods but I've spent countless hours on a C2 and it's the golden standard. Being seated higher up on a concept, is a much better, more comfortable feeling as it makes sure you sit upright and have an engaged core, realisticly however, very few, if any machines are as good for your technique as just getting on the water.

I've experienced both C2 and TG (Technogym). C2 menu and options are way better, on TG I am unable e.g. to set countdown for my sessions, impossible hence to do a proper race emulation. On TG also I've noticed that the resistance has to be set to a higher number to get a similar feeling with C2: Normally, I put 5-6 on C2, on TG I set it close to 8-9 for a similar rowing feeling. And for sure with the price of TG, C2 is the only option for hobbyists.. Also the handlebar of TG feels slightly more slippery when my hands are sweating. Otherwise, the rowing effectiveness is so similar IMO between C2 and TG.

I think there are DEFINITELY a few others that are very excellent too and not a waste of money. Concept2 the Dreißigacker bros are German expats in Vermont. I have the Concept2 model B and I'm so sick of all the wind it stirs up, the awful loud noise and filthy chain. Spirit Fitness CRW 800 and the Body Craft VR500 are both very good with adjustable resistance controls right in the handle. Both these I think are a combination of magnetic and fan flywheel, so I'm not keen on the amount of noise they may produce. I'm trying to find the least noisy most quiet rower machine that offers us lots of adjustable resistance. Dankeschön ✔👍

@strawberryyogurt0 5 лет назад
@No one will find this I hope .... From my research (internet searches, reading message board, etc.), one other ergometer that the video does not show are dynamic rowing machines. There is the RP3 (approximately $3500 dollars plus the cost of shipping) and the Oartec dx ($1895). The RP3 can be extremely loud, so it may not be appropriate in a apartment, etc. setting. Dynamic rowing machine's flywheel moves back and forth while the user sits in the same exact place (which differs from static rowing machines [concept2, xebex, waterrower, etc.] where the user moves back and forth while the flywheel remains fixed. Dynamic rowing is suppose to better mimic the mechanics of rowing on a real boat. If you have proper form and technique, you'll do fine on the dynamic rower.

To answer your question: If price is no object - the Biorower (about 6-8k US) If price is kind of an object but you have a lot of disposable income - the RP3 ( 4k US) Best bang for the buck - Oartec DX retrofitted with the C2 PM5 monitor (2k US) If your budget is less than 2k and want a dynamic option (in order of preference) Used Oartec Slider C2 Static with Slider Attachments C2 Dynamic Finally, the old school alternative C2 Static, but do your Steady State work with your feet "unstrapped"

I understand that the C2 are the gold standard but are the Waterrowers that bad?
@strawberryyogurt0
@strawberryyogurt0 5 лет назад
@Johnny McMillan ... That's what I'm trying to determine at the moment. I picked up a new C2 from amazon a few days ago and might consider returning it in favor of a water based rower (because it's suppose to be much more quiet). I've already signed up for a free trial down at Orangetheory this coming Saturday to test out their hour long class which will incorporate a waterrower. I would suggest you do that as well just to give the waterrower a test run. The biggest drawbacks to waterrowers that I've read are that they may develop a leak, the water container may crack and various structures to the unit may need to be replaced due to defects. Instead of "fixing" the water container, the cost to replace the container through waterrower's manufacturer is around $170 plus shipping. If it wasn't for these drawbacks to the waterrower I would have gotten it in the first place. Still debating because I do want a rower that's more quiet. While using the concept2 at my local 24 hour fitness, it didn't really sound that loud because of the open space, but having used the concept2 in my bedroom (10x12 feet), it's definitely loud.

He says that it is not a dealbreaker to him that the WaterRower is considered to displays better times for 2k etc. as he is not an elite rower and he only uses his own WaterRower as the reference for his performance. My question is, for a person who has spent many, many hours rowing and loving their Concept 2, will switching to a water rower be a big disappointment? @Hundert1
@Hundert1 4 года назад
@@clonmult Ok, I'm looking for a serious training tool myself. I just don't want the noise or wind of the Concept2 machine. I know Concept2 is the most popular, I've used them my whole life. However, I'd also like a machine that offers a full range of some serious resistance levels we can change up or down directly from the handle while rowing. Check out the Spirit CRW800 and the BodyCraft VR500. Both these are magnetic rowers but also have a fan/flywheel which probably makes too much noise and wind for me. Perhaps somewhere out there the absolutely silent rowing machine exists, if not today in the future. BTW, there are serious athletes who are very happy and get a wonderful experience and workouts with water rowers.
@0kneelbeforezod0
@0kneelbeforezod0 4 года назад
Agree with clonmult - WR is a serious downgrade from a C2 - smooth is not the word I'd use, the catch on a WR is "mushy" - on a C2 there is a distinct "cue" at the catch, similar to the "loading" of the blade when you are rowing on the water. The WR would be somewhat equivalent if you are rowing on the paddle, which is basically with little effort. Not what you are looking for. The C2 mimics on water rowing better.

Very UNIMPRESSED with Technogym Skill Row compared to Concept 2D/PM5. The monitor on the machine is under whelming with 2 choices for SET UP, open or basic selection. Then comes the TGSR app which is supposed to enhance the machines PM, (what a load of bollocks). After 30 yrs of Concept 2 rowing the change to a TG machine @ x3 the cost proved to be BULL SHIT over reality. I have been auto recording my outings on C2's since 2009 with the PM3 card and PM5 USB. The results then transfer to my World Log at C2 thro my pc. The TG rower PM even with your mob app is like a poor 1993 PM2. Rowers want saved data not fancy gimmicky none retainable charts of single outings. Rowing is built on multi outing rows unlike weight training or bikes. My new Health Club is full of gimmicky TG machines but no body uses the ROWERS. TG need to look at C2 rowing products and uprate their offering if their £4K machine is to be preferred over a £1.2K C2D/PM5 World Beater.TG KISS

If they can handle that level of use, you won't break it. There are lower end models but check the reviews, almost always issues in longevity or quality control.
